A young faerie sat alone in a silent forest. Crying softly, her tears ran down her face. She was a dark faerie, condemned to living a life of hatred and despair. A life she loathed above all else. Her long purple hair was messy, and there was dirt on her face. She cried for she remembered the injustice that she had just witnessed. The pain that she felt.
“Why?” she sobbed,”Why must things be this way? Must we always fight? Must we always hate?”Suddenly, a light appeared, floating above the young dark faerie. Already amazed, she jumped when it spoke.”You are a dark faerie, yet your heart is pure. You want to stop the war. How do you intend to do this?” The faerie lowered her eyes. “I am an outcast, hated by both sides. There is nothing I can do.”
The light suddenly changed, for it was truly a light faerie.”I am a messenger of the battle faerie herself, sent to find warriors with pure souls, with dreams of a peace filled world. Would I be correct in assuming that you are one of these individuals?” The young faerie looked up.”What do you mean?” The light faerie shook her head,”Please, answer the question.” The darkness faerie stood up, an alien strength now coursing through her.”Yes, you are correct. I am.”
Suddenly a dark faerie emerged from the shadows.”You traitor! The dark faerie laughed. Just wait until the Dark Mistress hears about this. Then you shall pay!” The dark faerie disappeared in a plume of black smoke, cackling as she went.
Oh, no! Cried the young darkness faerie. My sister will kill me! For her sister was the dark lady her self, Jhudora. She began to cry again.
“Do not cry young one. I know what to do. I shall make you an earth faerie, for you care for all living things. Please, what is your name?”
My name? She thought.”Its…Illusen.”
The light faerie smiled, then closed her eyes. Speaking a few soft words, light appeared at her fingertips. Illusen felt herself changing. When she looked down, she was shocked to see that she was a beautiful young earth faerie. She spun around, admiring herself. The light faerie cleared her thought. “You must promise to always to good.” Illusen promised. “Now tell me. Why were you so sad?”
Illusen looked up at the kind faerie and opened her mouth, but as she began to speak, her thought clenched. She couldn’t bring her self to say.”I-I was just sad that I was a dark faerie, that’s all. The faerie nodded and smiled, fading away. soon she was gone completely .Illusen stared at nothing, her expression showing that she was deep in thought. She must never tell anyone what she had witnessed her sister do. She couldn’t.
After the light faerie disappeared, Illusen ran back to her home, using the secret paths she had discovered a long time ago. Being as quiet as she could, she packed her favorite things. After staring at one, she finally put it in her bag. After she was done packing, she left a note on her bedside table. It read;
Dear sister,
I am sorry that I must leave. Please know that I have always loved you, and always will. Do not judge me too harshly. I cannot stand the life of evil. If you will like, I will visit you often. Please keep me in your heart, as you will always be in mine.
Youre loving sister, Illusen
Wiping tears from her eyes, she left. She dared not look behind her, for the pain of leaving was too great. “Good bye, sister,” she whispered.
Now that she had left her home, she did not know where to go. It was too cold on Terror Mountain, and she was ashamed to be around other good faeries, because inside, she still felt like an outcast. So she headed to one of her favorite places. She had read about it often, and had always wanted to go there.
When she arrived, she smiled. “So this is Merridell,” she said. Looking for a place that was beautiful yet uninhabited, Illusen found a small and beautiful glade. Finding a large, and very old tree, Illusen entered into a hollowed spot. It led to a large underground place. “This glade is where I shall make my home, and this tree shall be my house.” Smiling to herself, she fixed up the inside of the tree. Soon she heard a knock on her door.
Fear rose inside of her. Would it be a dark faerie, come to make her pay for leaving? She slowly opened the door. There stood a young Lupe, looking up at her.
“Hello ma’am. Welcome to Merridell. I was wondering if, if you would give me a quest.”
Illusen was puzzled. “Quest?” she asked.
“Yes, all the other faeries give them, I thought you might as well.” Illusen looked at the hopeful young Lupe.
“You wish for a quest?” she smiled.
“Well then, please find me a star tree, to brighten up this gloomy place.” The young Lupe smiled and bounded off, happy as could be. Illusen smiled at its retreating figure. Welcome to Merridell, she whispered to herself, smiling as she closed the door, “Welcome to a better life.”
Back at her cloud, Jhudora paced angrily. Where had her sister gotten to. She was going to be in big trouble. Stomping to Illusen’s room, she threw open the door, slamming it behind her as she entered.
“Illusen! Come here this instant!” she called. there was no response. “Illusen?” she called again. Then she noticed the small piece of green paper on her sister’s dresser. reaching for it, she read the letter. As she did so, she sank onto the bed. Her sister was gone. Just like that.
Jhudora felt a tear fall down her cheek. She wiped it away angrily. Setting a black fire to the letter, she watched it smolder. “If she wants to leave, then she shall be gone forever!” Jhudora hissed, once again slamming the door as she left. Stomping to her room, she opened the door, sealing it from the inside and making it soundproof, so that no one could enter and no one could hear what was taking place inside.
If you had been able to see, somehow, inside the chamber, you would have seen a powerful dark faerie, stirring her cauldron, with silent tears dripping into the greenish mixture. “We shall see what we shall see,” she said, grinning wickedly at the potion she was making. “We shall see what we shall see…”
And far away, a shimmering light watched them both. The light faerie looked sad as she watched the events that took place. She knew that by granting the young dark faerie’s wish, she had ruined Illusen’s life forever. Her sister was everything to her, sand the light faerie had made her leave everything she had every known, everyone she had ever loved, behind her and start a new life. For the first time ever, the light faerie wondered if the choice she had made was the right one. As she faded away, a single tear rolled down her face
Illusen felt something form in her hand. It was a tiny crystal tear, her own that she had wiped away moments before. Smiling, she placed the tear on a small cushion, and placed it somewhere only she could find it.
Miles away, Jhudora also felt something in her hand. She looked, and to her surprise, saw a small crystal tear. Taking of her necklace, she opened the round ornament connected to it, revealing a secret compartment. Placing the tear carefully in it, she closed it tight. Then after a moment, she went back to stirring her potion.
And even further away, the light faerie also felt something form in her hand. looking at it, she saw a tiny crystal tear. Smiling sadly, she clutched it tight in her hands. Holding her hands to her, she whispered. a few words. As soon as she had finished, the tiny tear appeared in the tiara which all light faeries wear.
Three tears shed. Three lives changed forever. – tabbycat478
