Last night, as I was looking for Codestones for the Training School (since dubloons have gotten to be so expensive!) I stumbled across a shop held by Kalisan_Purple. In this store, there was a Greater Staff of the Earth Faerie for 50,000NP. I quickly went to my bank to take out the cash to purchase this but when I clicked on it, I was taken to a log out (the one with the faerie aisha) screen asking me to give my password.
I gave up and returned to looking for my codestones when I noticed that I had over a million NP in my side bar and the number was dropping drastically. I went to the bank to see that my 3.25 million NP (a years worth of saving) was gone.
I thought it was some kind of bug and went to write a report to the Neopian Authorities. However, when I went to my item page and saw the faeries and other items that I had my safety deposit box there, I knew I was being scammed.
I lost… Well, I lost alot but I didn’t lose everything.
If you suspect you are being scammed, there are certain actions you can take to stop the process.
1. Delete all of your neofriends. The thief has to transfer your stuff to his/her account. That can’t happen if the thief isn’t your neofriend. If the person becomes your neofriend again, you will have the thief’s user name.
2. Change your password right away.
3. If you still feel unsafe, transfer some of your most precious items to someone you know you can trust or start a second account to hold the important items.
Some precautions:
I got scammed because I came upon a deal that I thought was to good to be true. Well, it was. If something is to good, then there has to be something wrong.
Keep your neofriend list small or just with names that you know. If you do get scammed, it would be easy to pick out the name that doesn’t belong so you can report it to the Neopian authorities.
Please careful! If you think it can’t happen to you, you’re very wrong. – henryitta
