To freeze an account, or not to freeze an account — that is the question.
Greetings fans! Have you ever wondered what options a staff member is given when freezing an account? This article will hopefully explain to you some of the options that they do have…
If you haven’t realized already, staff have to abide by rules just like us members. However, many of you think they have total control over your freezing. …well you are correct if you believe so because they do. HOWEVER, they are given only limited reasons, which is why you may see many of your friends frozen for the same exact reason -word-for-word. In the event that there is no appropriate message for a freezing, then that particular staff member is granted permission to create a new message which would be re-used for future freezings.
Interesting fact: Before a staff member could actually freeze a member, they must verify with notes on the account information in order to prove that this person has broken the ToS. This of course would be reviewed by the support staff members whom in turn would decide if you get your account back.
Now I know that staff members such as the famous “marijane” in the past could simply freeze you over hatred or jealously, but this type of activity is heavily watched over and is highly unlikely to happen during these days as Neopets is just too commercial. And I’m sure Adam would do something about it 🙂
…Anyhow, getting of subject here….
Ever since staff began stating reasons for account freezings upon login, I decided it would be fun just to save all the little messages for each frozen account over the past few years (or months). Take a look to see if any of these look familiar to you :
1.) This account was found to be posting inappropriate messages (ie: bad language, insults, chain letters, etc.) on the message boards, guild boards, or other site areas.
2.) This account was posting or promoting pornographic links, images, photos, or discussing pornography.
3.) This account was attempting to give away, sell or trade a Neopets account or pet for Neopoints or items.
4.) This account was found to be linking to a website asking for user’s passwords’.
5.) This account was using a ‘cheat’ or downloadable cheat program.
6.) This account was one of many being used by the same owner to earn Neopoints.
7.) This account was attempting to scam other users out of items, Neopoints, Neopets, or their accounts.
8.) This account was found to be spamming the message boards, guild boards, neomail, or other site areas by repeatedly posting the same message.
9.) This account was found to be cheating on the flash games.
10.) This account was found to be one of multiple same-owner accounts being used to vote in the beauty contest.

fake login pages.

23.) This previously inactive account was being accessed by someone other than the original owner.
24.) You MAY have either fallen for a scam or submitted your account information to a fake login page. If you’d like information on getting your account back, please contact us by clicking here.
This account’s username was deemed inappropriate for this site. We cannot unfreeze an account with an inappropriate username. You may create a new username as long as it is appropriate for this all-ages site.
25.) Our automated system does not know why you were frozen.
26.) (Also, there is a blank headline for freezing. Take a look at the reason the username Neopets was frozen to understand what I mean.)
If you know of any other account freezing statements, please send them to kym@pinkpt.com and neononymized@yahoo.com, so we could update our lists.
My purpose in publicing some of this information is to benefit you guys. Hopefully you all will see what staff mainly focus on freezing people for. Maybe you guys will learn to prevent yourself from doing or getting associated with any of the above activity.
More interesting facts: Neopets.com is one of the most accessed website on the net. Therefore, it should come to no surprise that Neopets uses autobots to help with certain areas of the site, including moderating spam, cheating, etc. Now, …did you know that on the ‘about us’ page located at the bottom of any page on Neopets, contains some of the staff members first names that work for the site. If you guys are familiar with staff emails, you should know that by adding the first name plus the Neopets domain, would get there personal work address — example: firstname@neopets.com, or firstname@support.neopets.com. Now, had you decide to mass email all of these people, the autobot will catch on to this as spam, and block your email address from the site. This could be potentially harmful for you because there is no way for staff to receive any of your emails in the future, and verifying your account with that email address would be pointless. That might explain a lot to why many of you haven’t received a response.
