Having trouble making and running the perfect guild? A lot of Neopians create guilds, with dreams and hopes of being one of the biggest guilds in Neopia, but 98% of the time it doesn’t work out that way! This is because the leaders and council get their heads clouded up with the thoughts of the future. Well, if that keeps happening there won’t be a future, because you need to keep your head focused on the hands at task. I myself have created over 15 guilds, all of which never got over 5 members. After a long time thinking about ways to fix my problem, I finally figured out what I, and other Neopians, had been doing wrong. Focus!!
Common Hints & Tips:
Think of an original guild name. Using names with lots of punctuation (eg: ~~~Neo~People~~~) may be catchy, but it makes people think you are copying the original guild, and 30% of the time viewers don’t even look at your guild, they look at the guild name with out all the punctuation! And only 5% of the time do they go back to look at your guild. Remember: What you pick for a guild name you have to stick with, and it has to do with what your guild is about!
Either stick with a long or short description. For example, “We’re your helping hands.” Is very catchy because your fitting lot’s of stuff into a little phrase. They also give the impression that the guild is very creative and interesting! And long descriptions give lot’s of information, and at least a few things will catch the person’s eye! But medium, crummy descriptions like, “Join Baby Petz because we have contests and a lot more!” Leaves people bored and uninterested!
When making a layout, using blogs and stuff it cool, but what members really want is images! If you can make them animated too! Blogs are cool, but they give a boring, very formal impression. Images/graphics give a fun, lively, creative impression. And interests people a lot! Images can also tell a lot about your guild! Make sure to use images on your pages too!
Use color patterns. Using Purple, Black, Green, Orange, White, and Blue isn’t exactly catchy! Stick with a pattern! Like Violet, Purple, Light Chockato, Chockato, White, Black. Or things that work together! Also using white, or light, colored backgrounds for the text is good. Dark ones, unless your guild is about evil things or battling, leave a gloomy impression. Also make the colors match your guilds theme! Like for a baby guild use light, pretty colors!
FAQ’s/Problems
I have NO HTML experience or knowledge!
This is one of the most common problems people have with their guilds. But don’t worry, there are a few options to fix this problem!! Go to www.lissaexplains.com or go to Google and search up HTML help! This is how everyone learns at first. If you still are having trouble, or don’t have time, pay someone to do a layout, or help you. Or invite an expert to your guild! If you don’t have np, then find someone willing to do it for free! Neomail me, ninaj26, if you need help! I am always available!
No one will join my guild!
Make sure to have an interesting layout and description, and offer a few things at first. Like a referring contest. When you advertise, make sure to advertise open council while there is some. People LOVE being in charge, and this will really appeal to them. This works for even the newest and worst guilds!! While you still have open council, feel free to invite people that are still in guilds. Once again, power really appeals to even people that have guilds! Make sure to advertise your guild in bold by typing ‘before you type anything else in the title!
I don’t have ANY neopoints to pay for my guilds first contest prize, and no one will join without a contest!
No worries. Advertise on the front page that your contest will start when you get 5+ members. This gives you time to take in donations, and get new members! This appeals almost as much as having an active contest, and takes care of your problem!!
No one in my guild donates!
Easily fixed. Encourage your members to donate! Not my neomail, but by making contests un-active until you get —– amount of donations! This works a lot!
I have a council member that is inactive, but she will leave if I delete her or remove her from council!
Think about it. Would you rather have 1 more member, an in-active one at that, taking a VERY valuable position in your guild, or an open council spot that could easily attract many new members and be filled by an active person that deserves the spot? You make the decision on this one!
I need all the cool things every other guild has, but I don’t know what they are!
Here are some very cool things that most successful guilds have: Wishing Well, Contests, Newspaper, Newbie Packs, Links to Daily Things (e.g. Tombola), Website, Guild Points (give them your own interesting name!!), an Adoption Agency, Help that is Offered (e.g. pharmacy, bargains, etc), and Giveaways. Also look at successful guilds and find unique things they have that you think are appealing!
I have NO time to be adding all the cool things my guild needs!
Find a person you REALLY REALLY trust, (e.g. co-owner) and give them access to the guild layout, and give them your permission to add and make new pages, and add the links to the front page. Tell them politely to not change the layout to much, or not at all, and to not make any false promises that the guild can’t keep. Make sure to get on as often as you can to make sure they are doing a good job, and to distribute prizes. When you have free time answer ALL the messages you can from your members, get updated on everything, and try to add as much as you can! It would be a good idea to make the special person someone you can call, or a friend in real life, so that you can talk about it at times when you’re not on Neopets!
I don’t know whether or not to make a guild account!
Definitely. Make sure to refer to your regular account name, (click on the “link to us” link on the bottom of the yellow tool bar in Neopets) because you will get cool prizes for you, or for your guild. A guild account makes it easy to handle guild funds, and it gives you some freedom on your own account. Also give a trusted person access to this account if you REALLY REALLY trust them (like I said above!), because they can keep the guild updated too, and this updates the guild 2x as much!
Hope this guide helped you! Remember, STAY FOCUSED!! Getting ahead of yourself can REALLY mess you up!! So be careful! If you need any further help please neomail me! I’m ninaj26. Good luck with your guild! – ninaj26
