What an exciting day it was for all of us when we learned Neopets was offering rare items along with some of their merchandise! I immediately wanted to be in on it, but being a poor, starving university student, I couldn’t afford anything right away. Then, finally, while at Claire’s, looking at that Babaa plushie I so dearly wanted, I saw Doglefox stickers that tickled my fancy as well. I inspected them and discovered they had a Rare Item Code enclosed. This code, it promised, would give me a rare item! I checked the price. Ouch! 5.99$! But the stickers were nice, and I wanted really wanted that Rare Item Code, so I went to the cash register and emptied my pockets. Obviously, paying $5.99 (plus taxes, I might add) would be insane, were it not for the fabled Code!
Walking back to my apartment, I wondered if it was too good to be true…
Arriving there, I tore the wrapper off of my stickers and logged onto Neopets. I remembered exactly where to go – Grundo’s Warehouse. Excitedly, I typed in the Code. I waited for my prize to come up… a Snowager Poster! Excellent, I thought, as I went into my inventory and put the item into my shop stock. I’m not a collector, I just wanted neopoints. To the shop wizard I merrily went, typed in my Rare Item and waited. How much would it be worth?, I thought animatedly, 10k? 20k? 30k?! Maybe even 60k?!
As the page loaded and the first few prices showed up, my face fell an amazing distance. Not so rare, my Rare Item. Three hundred and twelve neopoints was its worth. Furious, I did another search. Three hundred neopoints!
RARE?! I don’t think so!
Not the first, nor the last time I got screwed over by Neopets. I paid actual money, MY money, MY hard-earned money for a Rare Item Code for an Item that isn’t even rare! Neopets needs to get their stuff together and make actual RARE ITEM Codes. This is an unfair game they’re playing, and they’re not getting any more of my money.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to enjoy my Doglefox stickers. – inkiemouse
