Neopets Lessons by Shoyru_Lover

Contrary to popular belief, Neopets is not all played by children. In actual fact, large portions of the Neopian population are adults over the age of 20. Never be ashamed that you play a game whereby ‘only little kids’ can play. This is simply not true. This game if any, is more designed for the older generation to play and serve as a body to educate the younger generation. Using fun interactive, cute and adorable animals called Neopets as learning tools, the often difficult and mundane issues of life are taught in a fun, friendly and safe environment.

“I am probably a very unlikely Neopets person. I am a middle-aged stay at home mom! Do you know if there is any other of us that indulge in Neopets playing? – M. Brown”

As you can see, if you are an adult playing Neopets, you are clearly not alone. As stated before, large portions of the Neopian population plays Neopets, and makes the game interesting, but I am traversing off topic.

Neopets teaches you the value of money
Based on the NeoPoints system, people learn that in order to buy the most expensive items, they must earn it through playing games, keeping a shop, bartering and trading items.

Neopets encourages people to set goals
With wanted items comes the need for NeoPoints. After a few days or weeks of playing, it will begin to dawn on people that in order to buy those items, they will simply need to save up or invest in a commodity.

Neopets teaches people that things are only impossible if you believe them so
If one person can save up to 13 million for a rare item, you can too.

Neopets teaches the ways of trading and bartering
With keeping shops and the cost of maintenance, restocking and price comparisons, people will soon learn how to attract customers. Simply pricing your items too expensive will have your customers leave in disgust. Having too many will confuse your customers. A balance needs to be achieved.

Neopets teaches that there is a darker side
Scamming, money laundering, stealing, hacking are part and parcel of everyday life in Neopets. If a person is not careful about protecting their information, they will soon find that all there hard worked NeoPoints stolen by hackers, scammers and looters.

Neopets teaches people that luck can play a big part
Finding yourself in the right place at the right time can affect your life. Same with Neopets. Finding paint brushes, NeoPoints and various other artifacts will help you reach your goal.

Neopets encourages communication
When trouble arises, the chat is always handy. People learn to be direct in their question asking and not ‘beat-around-the-bush’. If people do, other chatters simply ignore them. (Also great for honing those communication skills.) 😉

Neopets encourages working as a team
With disasters that seems to threaten the existence of Neopia, many neopians must unite to save it. United we stand, divided we fall.

Neopets teaches people that unacceptable behavior leads to banishment
Cheating, scamming, and hacking will all lead to a frozen account. With this in mind, people learn that it is possible to have fun within the rules, and any breach of rules will not be accepted.

Neopets encourages the growth of imagination and intrigue
New plots, drawing classes, poetry competitions and problem solving challenges will test your wits and knowledge.

Neopets teaches organization
Be organized or lose your items from the wily hands of the Pant Devil.

Neopets shows you that money can easily be lost
Careless spending will put you into a position where you have no more NeoPoints.

Neopets shows you the ways of the bank
Bank interest, bank loans and recessions are all part of the workings of the bank. Will you choose to use the bank? Or will you decide the Stock Market?

Neopets shows you that money isn’t everything
With a lot of money made, you will realize that money not spent is nothing. Money isn’t everything and you will discover your original intention for engaging in the game, to have a NeoPet.

In summary, Neopets is not just a game played by ‘little kids’. Big kids play as well. It serves as a great form of entertainment, and most importantly, a great source of education. And isn’t that the perfect combination eh? – Shoyru_Lover
