Motes are little creatures which aid you in the battledome, helping out of all sticky situations with their close attacks some defend whilst others attack, and maybe even some do both!
Ash Mote: kicks up ash to make cloud
The Ash Mote stops you from getting hurt and also has a dark attack. It also defends your pet. (found in the lost desert as scorched sand)
Bubble Mote: creates a bubble round your pet
The Bubble Mote is the best fire defence mote, preventing you from both dark and fire damage it can also protect you from physical attacks by turning you invisible.

Dust Mote: kicks up dirt to make cloud
The Dust Mote can attack with light, dark and earth. It also defends your pet. (found in many neo homes lurking in corners)
Fire Mote: creates a wall of fire
The Fire Mote Protects you from water and fire attacks. on occasions it will attack with fire. (lives in tyrannias volcano)
Frost Mote: creates a frost
The Frost Mote defends you from freezing, it also tries to aid you whenever possible. (found on terror mountains top)
Hail Mote: hails on your opponent
The Hail Mote uses the force of frozen ice to attack you opponent and also can cause some physical damage. (found in happy valley)
Ice Mote: freezes your opponent
The Ice Mote Freezes your opponent so whilst its defrosting you can attack or escape from your opponent. (found in the ice caves)
Lava Mote: creates a moat of lava
The Lava Mote can defend you from physical, water and fire attacks. it also uses MAGIC.

Mud Mote: creates a muddy floor
The Mud Mote can attack with both earth and water. (found in the haunted woods)
Rock Mote: build a wall of rock
The Rock Mote can only attack physically but gives your opponent a BIG headache. (found in tyrannia)
Salt Mote: stays at your pets side
The Salt mote can attack with darkness and earth attacks (found in the salt flats on mystery island)
Smoke mote: rises above your head
The smoke mote can attack with light but can also defend you from reflected attacks. (found hovering above the volcano in tyrannia)
Snow Mote: makes it snow
The snow mote can attack with both water and fire attacks. (found in happy valley)
Water Mote: circles your pet
The Water Mote can attack with both water and fire it also powers your pets attacks

Since this is in the Battledome Guide section, I think it only prudent to inform those perusing that there is a community consensus that motes are by and large inefficient for the Battledome. Almost all things that can be done by motes are more effectively provided by non-mote items, usually at reasonable cost. Reference your in-depth Battlepedia to learn more.
This guide is also not complete as of 2011, though it is very good for what it does showcase. Motes can be fun, but tbh Battledome winners don’t win on fun.
