How to Build Your Dream Neohome on a Budget by Xcubeds11_2

Have you ever looked at the Neohome spotlight, and felt ashamed of your Neohome? Do you ever wish that you could have one of those amazing manors made of things that no one in there right mind would build a house out of, but couldn’t because you were lacing in neopoints? Well, Now you too can build your own amazing manor, with out breaking the bank. All you need is 30-80k Neopoints, and a dream.

Step 1: Location Location Location

Before you can build your house, you need to have a site to build it on! Not a problem however, as you have nearly all the Neopian worlds to choose from! However, before you jump the gun and buy land in Faerieland, you need to think about your budget.

On the Land Application page, you’re given a menu of locations to choose from. The cost of the land varies depending on the world it’s located it, with Neopia Central being the cheapest, and Darigan Citadel being the most expensive. I suggest you base your budget around the price of land, so that the land only takes up a fraction of your budget. You don’t want to spend money to buy land in Maraqua, only to be left with a one room hut. For example I purchased land in Spooky woods. I set my building budget at 45k, so I left myself with 30k to build with.

Step 2: Planning

It takes a day for a land application to clear, so use that time wisely, and start planning for your neohome.

Look at the Neohome spotlight, and you’ll notice that they all have 1 thing in common. They are all well planned, thought out buildings, and not some random bunch of rooms thrown together. Remember, you’re building your dream house, not the Winchester mystery house (unless that is your dream house, then by all means, go right ahead). Before you build, picture how it will look. Think about where your rooms and gardens will go. Do you want to build a castle with a green court yard inside, or a simple home with a front lawn. Think about the second stories too. Will you have an attic or towers?

Imagine where the exits will go as well. Unless all your visitors are ghosts, a wall blocking the path to a room is uninviting, unless you place an item that would act as a secret passage there. But more on that later. Also, think about your Location. A Faerie castle in spooky woods is just weird. It’s time to start building.

Step 3. Building

Whoa there, before you start building, look at one of the most important factors, the materials. I’m going to let you in on a secret, a neohome doesn’t have to be made of transparasheild. Any material will suffice. But you have to think about how it will fit with the theme of the room. If your building a Tiki hut, Bamboo will fit better than marble. Also, a popular thing nowadays is to build a whole home out of the same thing. While this reflects real life, quite frankly it bores me to tears to look at. So it’s ok to branch out. But remember, the more expensive the materials, the less rooms you can have if you stick to a budget. So be Careful. Once you’re done building and Landscaping, it’s time to furnish those rooms!

Step 4: Interior Design

Here comes the fun part! Now you can actually add stuff to your rooms. But there are a few things you should know about this part.

First, Furniture is the most expensive part of making a neohome. Even more so than building it. Because of this there are 2 things you should do. Set up a separate budget for furniture, and take advantage of the cheap stuff.

There are a lot of places you can go to find cheap furniture. Advent furniture is around the cheapest you can find, and will look nice in many rooms. For example 2 snowager statues on either side of your door would be perfect. Also, a well placed snow angel statue can serve as a person if you cleverly arrange the furniture around it. Spooky Furniture is cheapest in early November, when it is given away for free in goodie bags.

Also, Stained glass windows are given away frequently from the wheel of knowledge, so use them to let some light into your neohome!

Also, set rooms to themes, use Geraptiku furniture from the tomb to decorate a ancient tribal room, or set up a wooden fireplace and some chairs and a rug for a cozy den. It’s all up to you!

One last thing, If you added a second or third story but cant afford stairs, or accidentally forgot to add a door, there is a method you can use to solve this, called the secret passage. Here’s how it works, take an item that hangs on a wall, like a painting, and place it on a solid wall where a door would go. Then when people ask you, “where’s the door?” Just say that it’s behind the painting, a la Harry Potter. Although no the most effective method, it will look interesting on a submission form for the Neohome spotlight.

Step 5: Miscellaneous stuff

Finally, there’s the extensions. Those expensive little buggers that sit on that menu, telling you your neohome looks like it belongs in a third world country. Well guess what, they’re useless. They have no effect on your neohome, except to appear on your lookup, and do not alter the appearance in anyway.

As of now, your neohome will not come under any harm what so ever, so unless your neohome is a secret hide out, chances are you don’t need insurance or a hi-tech security system. As for floors, wallpaper and lighting. Although many furniture items can suffice for this, if you really want to, splurge for some of them. You don’t need to go overboard. A fireplace will do for heating, and wood floors are very popular now. Just always do extensions last, to prevent you from being prevented from building your dream home. They’ll cost the same no matter what, but you want to build first, and add later.
