How to be Popular, Well-liked, and Nice to Other Neopetters by Kara

The first of six guides is about how to be popular and nice on Neopets. Have you ever wondered how to become popular in Neopia? Do you wish people gave you paintbrushes for birthday presents? Well, if you answered yes to one or both of those questions, this guide is for you!!

First off, go on the boards everyday. I personally prefer the “Newbies” and “Other Worlds” boards, but be careful on the Other Worlds board because some posts may be regarded as S.P.A.M.- Small Pointless Annoying Messages. S.P.A.M. is one of the WORST things you can write- EVER!! You may also be reported for S.P.A.M. Just dont do it. So about the newbies board, never, ever post a board that asks “how many Neopoints do you have?” or “lyk PNG this ish so 1337!!!!!” That is S.P.A.M. and will get you the title of n00b. A n00b is basically a mean, begging person who speaks in chatspeak (shorthand is fine, shorthand is different from chatspeak and I will explain that later on in this guide). That brings me to my next point, if you beg, no matter how nicely, YOU WILL NOT GET ANYTHING and your popularity meter will hit rock bottom. Instead of begging, play games to get points with which you can buy items. There are many websites and many more user lookups that have successful neopoint-earning and game guides. (Note: be sure to play Turmac Roll and Jelly Blobs of Doom.)

Secondly, make friends with newbies and rich people alike. Be nice to them. Participate in an adopt-a-newbie program. Talk to newbies and show them the way around Neopia. They can reward you greatly with friendliness and some more neofriends. Also spend time to neomail and get to know some of Neopias most well known players. A good way to make friends is to start a popular role-play topic as in “Teen Cruise” or “Teen Beach” or you may want to try something fun and different like “Food Fight”.

Special Section:

The Boards
If you see a topic that says something like “lyk OMG!!! I jus got hackd of 100k neopoints!!! PNG!!!!!!!” Click it. Dont give them free stuff or neopoints but do point them to the freebies (www.neopets.com/freebies) and to games that you find particularly helpful.

If someone is really rude on the boards, or is having a harsh argument with someone else dont just be all “STOP IT” but the first thing you say is “What are we arguing about?” or “Why are yall mad at each other?” and people will usually respond to your question. If one person responds, talk to them and try to help settle the argument in a nice way by helping them come to an agreement. I went into a board where two people were arguing about someones “hacked” account. Now I understand that this person could be lying to me or might not be lying. The person who was the main cause of aggression, with whom there was just no reasoning, was insulting everyone, including me. I started an argument relief board and sent them all of them the link, surprisingly enough the guy who was insulting everyone didnt come. So I helped them to calm down and got them to willingly send an apology letter to the aggressor. The letter did not get a response, but it helped the victims of this to feel better knowing that they did the right thing, and because of my peacemaking skills, I gained a few admiring neofriends.

Final Thoughts
Lastly, try to get trophies. Now I wont give you a step-by-step guide on how to get them, but I will tell you to play Cheat, Sakhmet and Poogle Solitaire and any games that you think you could get a high score at.

Remember; never give anything to anybody unless you really want to. Dont give it to a beggar.

On the boards, be nice to everyone no matter how mean they are to you. If you must report something, dont tell the person you are reporting. Dont report someone 3 weeks or younger because they have not understood the full set of rules, just tell them something like “Im not going to report you because you are a new neopetter, but someone else might because what you are doing/saying is against the rules. Try not to break the rules.” You might even direct them towards the rules.

These are some guildlines that helped me go from a disliked snob on some of my older accounts that were frozen to a well-liked rule following queen!
