A Guide to the Neopets Chat Boards by x_prison_break_fan_x

Picture this, you are new to Neopets, you click on the Neoboards, and…what is this? You are clueless on what to do, where to go, and what to say. So I created this simple guide to help you make your way through the chat boards.

The Front Page

On the front page of the boards, there are around 20 different message boards. Under each one is a short description of what you are supposed to talk about on that certain board.

For example, under the ‘Help’ chat board, it says:

Need Neopets help? If you’ve got a question, this is the place to get answers.

Make sure you only chat on a board about what you are supposed to chat about. For example, you wouldn’t go to the ‘Guilds’ board and talk about the Altador Cup.

Inside the Message Boards

So, you click on the board you want, and you are bombarded with hundreds of boxes, all saying different things. What do you click on? What do you do?

If you want to enter a user created message board, click on the text in the far left-hand column. This will take you to another page. Inside of that page, there will be several things.

When you go to type your own message board, you can change the title and the body of the message.

Reporting Someone

What is reporting? It is when someone types something bad on the message boards and you contact the Neopets team and tell them. It’s really easy. Here are a few reportable offences:

  • Trying to get you to give out your password, change your password, or change your email address.
  • Saying they will send you an item if you buy out of their shop.
  • Claiming they have a neopoint/item generator.
  • Making a board having to do with a party.
  • Looking for a boyfriend/girlfriend.
  • Selling any type of graphic (graphics are what goes into your petpage, guild layout, shop, etc. to make it look nicer).
  • Neositting (babysitting your neopet while you are away or asking someone if they will babysit their neopet).
  • Giving away their account.

There are tons of reportable offenses, but these are just some of them.

How to Report Someone on the Boards

Remember the picture pointing to where everything was? Over on the right hand side, above your message, there is a link that says ‘Report this message’.

If you would like to report some one, just click that link, and it will bring you to a page. It’s pretty self explanatory, and it has all the instructions on what to do there.

Customizing Your Posts

You are on a message board, and you see someone with colored font and an avatar! How do you get those? Some avatars you have to earn by playing games or viewing a certain webpage, but some are default and come automatically without you having to do anything. To access these, go to the main page of the message boards. At the top there are a bunch of links in blue. Click on the one that says ‘Chat Preferences’.

This will bring you to another page. The very first thing you see is a box with your avatar and drop down list, then another avatar on the other side. Click the drop down menu, and select which avatar you want. It will be displayed on the right.

If you want to customize your font, just scroll down. It’s not the box after the avatars but the one after that. It has a few different examples, and it’s pretty self-explanatory. Below that is the NeoSignature. You can customize this too. I pointed out my signature on the picture URL that I showed you above. You can make your font colored there too. You can advertise your shop and/or guild or put up one of your favorite quotes.

Smilies

Every one is using them, the little smiley faces, on your guild chat board AND on the main message boards. To see the list of smilies, go to the main page of the boards, and up at the top in the links you will see ‘Smilies’. Click on that, and a preview of what the smilies look like and how to make them will appear.

What NOT to do

Don’t speak in chat speak. Chat speak is using abbreviations for words. It’s okay to use it sometimes, but here are some examples of when it’s not.

OMG! Lyk i cnt b-live it!!!11

First of all, no one knows what you’re saying, and you seem immature. That’s probably the most important thing in getting people to like you on the chat boards. No one wants to talk to someone like the example above, right?

Hope this chat board guide helped you! Have fun chatting! – x_prison_break_fan_x

  1. Hi there intelligent points.. now why did not i think of these? Off topic barely, is this web page pattern merely from an atypical set up or else do you employ a customized template. I take advantage of a webpage i’m seeking to improve and properly the visuals is likely one of many key issues to complete on my list.

  2. Hello! Do you know if they make any plugins to assist with Search Engine Optimization? I’m trying to get my blog to rank for some targeted keywords but I’m not seeing very good gains. If you know of any please share. Thanks!

  3. I don’t even understand how I finished up here, however I assumed this post used to be good. I don’t recognise who you’re however definitely you are going to a famous blogger if you happen to are not already. Cheers!
