The Lupe (from the Latin lupus meaning "wolf") is a wolf-like Neopet, released on 13 January 2000, as a selection from a Create-a-Pet Contest. Though hunters by nature, Lupes are loyal Neopets who will often throw themselves into danger to protect their friends. Lupes enjoy adventuring to new territories and prowling around Neopia.
Lupes have a natural rivalry with Chias. Lupe treats are shaped like Chias, and other foods like Chocolate Chias are Lupe delicacies. A Lupe will practice hunting on Chia plushies, and if given one to play with will invariably tear it up. There is a Lupe species weapon called the Lupe Chia Bomb that will do extra damage to Chias in 2-player Battledome matches, and in kind Hubrid Nox developed Hubrids Noxious Blade that does extra damage to Lupes. Users with both a Lupe and a Chia pet may notice their Chia looks unhappy.
A Halloween Lupe is called a Werelupe, a reference to the werewolves of real life myth. Spotted Lupes resemble African wild dogs, and Maraquan Lupes resemble seals. In the Neopets Trading Card Game, Lupes are associated with the element of Earth.
