The Jetsam (from jetsam, cargo jettisoned from a ship in distress) are shark-like marine Neopets released at the founding of the site. They are vicious and always eager for a fight, even at the bottom of the ocean. They are capable hunters, who can sense their prey even in dark waters, and can smell a Neopoint from half a mile away.

Jetsam have been known to hunt Flotsam - by 3 March 2001, Flotsam numbers were so low that they became Limited Edition. This overhunting meant the Jetsams began to run out of food: by 17 May, Jetsams had replaced Flotsams as Limited Edition. Though they can be mean, when befriended, Jetsam make a powerful ally.

In the Neopets Trading Card Game, Jetsam are associated with the element of water.
