Neopia is the extrasolar planet on which Neopians exist in the gaming website Neopets. All the events which occur on Neopets take place in and around Neopia. It is orbited by a single moon, Kreludor, and a large Space Station, both of which are also inhabited.

The phrase Neopia or World of Neopia often refers to the fictional universe or realityA Neezles A Skips School in which all the Neopian activities take place, in addition to just the planet itself.

Worlds

Neopia is divided into several regions called worlds. A world may be notable for its environment or climate as much as its customs and rulers, with neighboring areas usually contrasting sharply in these respects. As of July 2007, there are 18 visible worlds on the marked on Neopia's map, with new worlds being discovered occasionally in relation to site events (or plots)...

Kreludor and Virtupets Space Station themselves, while being worlds, are not actually on the planet Neopia itself, but orbiting it. They are featured on the world map, however, and in certain events featuring Neopian worlds - such as the Altador Cup.

Almost all of these lands can be explored normally through Neopets, with the exception of Lutari Island, which when visited on the Neopets website can only be faintly seen through fog. Lutari Island floats around Neopia and is always on the move, and can only be accessed by those who use the Neopets Mobile service.

There are further worlds which, while being distinct from their surroundings, are not shown on the world map because of their size or for simplicity due to their closeness to their surrounding worlds. These include:

There are other lands which are either hidden from view, or can't be explored by normal means. As of September 2008, there are 4 of these types of worlds...

Climate

The climate and weather patterns of Neopia vary from region to region and season to season. Exceptions to this rule are The Lost Desert which is always hot, Terror Mountain which is in constant winter, and the Virtupets Space Station, which has no weather because it's in space. Some climates in contrast of neighboring worlds are completely different to each other, such are Terror Mountain, constantly in winter, next to Tyrannia, which is a combination of a tropical and desert climate. The placement of such climates next to each other have been long debated, if it has been caused and maintained by Faerie magic or was simply an error in planning by The Neopets Team.

World development

The "Other Side of Neopia", which has been unexplored for a very long time.

The development, history, and expansion of Neopia progresses slowly, with new worlds and parts of history being explored whenever a new plot is released. Much of the world is unknown to its inhabitants, especially the "Other Side of Neopia", which has remained unexplored until (need date). Because of this, even more worlds can be around Neopia, including the mysterious Jelly World, which has been visited countless times by Neopians yet never officially revealed.

The technological advancement and social customs differ from every world. Despite the Virtupets Space Station having technology even greater than Earth standards, residents of Meridell are still in Medieval times, only recently discovering the invention of the aeroplane, as seen in Skies Over Meridell. The technology is expanding however, as seen in Tyrannia where they have all but accepted the use of automobiles (made of stone), using them in Ugga Smash, and in the Lost Desert where tanks are being used in Swarm - The Bugs Strike Back. However, industry isn't widespread on Neopia, allowing for a low pollution rate, except in Mystery Island where visiting tourists have caused a disturbance.
