The Flotsam is an aquatic Neopet similar to the Dolphin. Released at the beginning of Neopets on November 15, 1999, The Flotsam originally resembled a Goldfish, but was changed to its current design on (need date).
Flotsam enjoy swimming in the oceans and rivers of Neopia, but they can move just as well on land if they need to. They are quick, and can sense danger by studying the temperature of waters and the movement in the clouds. And even in the coldest of climates, they always find a way to have fun. It is believed they cannot breathe underwater like the real-life dolphin, and must come back to the surface for another breath of air. This belief is strengthened by the Neopets TCG card Green Flotsam, which says, "A favorite game among the Flotsam is to dive underwater and see how far they can dive in one breath."
Flotsam were originally Limited Edition due to the fact they were hunted by Jetsam as food, but can now be adopted by anyone since June 22, 2000.
Trivia
- As of October 2006, there were 3.1 million Flotsam created on Neopets, placing them 23rd out of 54 Neopets in popularity. They are also featured in 100 items, and come in 36 different colours.
- In the Neopets TCG, Flotsam are affiliated with the element of water.
- Flotsam is a real life word which describes items which are floating on the water, like items after a shipwreck (read Flotsam and jetsam for more information).
