Yellow Zafara as of August 2006.

The Zafara is a kangaroo-like Neopet released on May 25, 2000 as the winner of a player-submitted Neopet competition, which originally resembled ferrets, but were later redesigned into the current appearance on February 27, 2001.

The Zafara is said to bring good luck to those who treat them well. Zafaras primarily have three spikes on their back, but this changes in accordance with different colours and characters. According to the information on an old zafara petpage, these spikes were protective fins. Zafaras have an incredible hearing range, but they do not have a good sense of smell. Zafaras have an innate ability to create fire as made apparent with their level 2 Battledome ability Zafara Flame. Because of this, it's rumored they could be guards of Fire Faeries.
