This article documents a current event.
Information may update rapidly as the event progresses.

The ninth annual Altador Cup began on May 22, 2014. As with previous years, users were asked to choose one of 18 teams, each representing a different Neopian land. After joining a team, users competed by playing games of Yooyuball, Slushie Slinger, Make Some Noise, and Shootout Showdown.

Participating Teams

Team Description Roster
Altador logo.gif
Altador
After years as tournament also-rans, Altador vaulted into contention last year, finishing in 2nd place at Altador Cup VIII. Now that they’re entering the tourney as bona fide contenders, they’ll have to get used to opposing teams circling them on the schedule. Will they buckle under the pressure or rise to the challenge?
Brightvale logo.gif
Brightvale
Brightvale hasn’t wound up with a single-digit placing in a tourney since winning in Round One of the first Altador Cup and going to the round of eight. Given that they haven’t made any changes to last year’s team, it wouldn’t be a surprise if they finished 11th for the 3rd straight year. Keep reaching for the stars, Team Brightvale!
Darigancitadel-1-.gif
Darigan Citadel
With three top five finishes in the past four years, Darigan continues to chip away at their goal of becoming the first Altador Cup team to win two championships in the modern era. However, there are some who fear that last year’s slight slip from 4th to 5th place could be a predictor of further slippage…
Faerieland logo.gif
Faerieland
You could technically call last year’s tie for 16th with Virtupets an improvement, if only by virtue of the fact that it was one spot better than Team Faerieland’s tie for 17th with Altador the year before. On the other hand, that very same Altador team went on to finish 2nd in last year’s tourney, so who’s to say that it won’t be Team Faerieland’s turn this year? Oh, right. Everyone.
Haunted woods logo.gif
Haunted Woods
Back when Team Haunted Woods followed their victory in Altador Cup I with a 7th place finish, many called it a sophomore slump. Yet, in the six tourneys since, the team has failed to best that Altador Cup II finish, much less come close to being in the mix for a title. Could a change to the team’s roster be the key to their resurgence?
Kiko lake logo.gif
Kiko Lake
Team Kiko Lake, whose rise to 6th place in the standings for Altador Cup VII held such promise, returned to form with a disappointing 14th place showing at last year’s tourney. “We’ve now had a taste of what it’s like to contend, and we’ve also experienced the cost of taking that for granted,” said Holbie Pinnock. “We’ve learned our lesson.”
Krawk island logo.gif
Krawk Island
Krawk Island bounced back from their second 7th place finish in three years by coming in 4th at last year’s tourney. While some feel the team needs to prove that they can get off this rollercoaster of strong and poor showings, the team disagrees. “We’re champions,” Garven Hale stated defiantly. “In my book, we don’t have anything to prove.”
Kreludor logo.gif
Kreludor
Coming off their victory in Altador Cup VII, Kreludor took an expected decline and fell to 7th in last year's tourney. Rather than resting on their laurels, the club decided it wasn't good enough, making a deal for Krawk Island's Ealyn Hawkshanks. "It's sad to see Coco go," captain Derlyn Fonnet said, "but make no mistake: this is an upgrade."
Lost desert logo.gif
Lost Desert
After years as a mainstay in the tourney’s top tier, Team Lost Desert has posted two 13th place finishes in the past three years. Though many insist it’s time to rebuild, the team thinks they’ve got one last run left. “Critics said we were through after our first 13th place showing, but we came back,” goalie Leera Heggle said. “We’ve still got it.”
Maraqua logo.gif
Maraqua
Having followed their 8th place showing in Altador Cup VII with a 9th place finish in last year’s tourney, it seems like their days as legitimate Cup contenders -- Maraqua placed fifth or better three years in a row before that -- are behind them for good. Good luck convincing Elon “The Black Hole” Hughlis of that, however…
Meridell logo.gif
Meridell
Meridell’s addition of Ethel Boortz was meant to vault them to the title, but instead the club fell from 3rd to 6th. Many say that it was hardly the newcomer’s fault, though. “She was terrific,” Fiorina said. “It’s just that, when you’re playing at this high a level, it takes absolute precision, and our chemistry just isn’t there yet.”
Moltara logo.png
Moltara
After teasing their fans by rising to 15th place in Altador Cup VII, Team Moltara suffered another season where they seemingly couldn’t get out of their own way, falling back to last place for the 3rd time in four years. With another offseason spent back at the drawing board, will they summon the will to dust themselves off and try again?
Mystery island logo.gif
Mystery Island
In light of the drubbing they took at last year’s tourney, Mystery Island’s 2nd place Altador Cup VII finish now feels like it happened an awfully long time ago. After years of failing to live up to expectations, the club came out of nowhere to nearly win it all, only to wither under the spotlight last year. Now, the pressure’s greater than ever…
Rooislandbannerac2.gif
Roo Island
No one who witnessed the indignity of Roo Island’s 14th place finish at Altador Cup VII could’ve imagined that this same team (which, by all rights, should have then been dismantled) would rocket back into contention and wind up with a spot on the podium at 3rd place in Altador Cup VIII. At this point, what they’re capable of is anyone’s guess.
Shenkuu logo.gif
Shenkuu
After nosediving to 16th place in Altador Cup VII, Team Shenkuu bounced back to place 12th at last year’s Cup, making the first step on what will probably be a long, slow road back to respectability. “We’re going back to basics, stressing fundamentals,” captain Mirsha Grelinek said. “It’s either that or start from scratch, which we’d rather avoid.”
Terrormountain-1-.gif
Terror Mountain
Terror Mountain got off to a rocky start last season before going on a tear where they were almost as hot as any team in the tourney, only to tail off toward the end and finish 7th overall. Despite falling short, they definitely put the competition on notice of what they’re capable of. If they can get hot and sustain their momentum, watch out…
Tyrannia logo.gif
Tyrannia
Having tumbled from 6th place in Altador Cup VI to 10th place in ACVII, Team Tyrannia took a gamble by swapping netminders with Moltara, acquiring goalie Mor Gollog. The move paid off in spades, as the club then went on to win it all at Altador Cup VIII. Will this club be the first to shed the dreaded winners’ curse and defend their title?
Virtupets logo.gif
Virtupets
After following their victory at Altador Cup VI with a woeful 13th place showing the next year, things went from bad to worse for Keetra Deile and co. as they imploded at Altador Cup VIII, finishing in a tie with Faerieland in a tie for 16th place. If nothing else, fans can take heart in knowing that they’ve pretty much got nowhere to go but up…
