I wish they'd just give us a safe method of transferring - i know they want to stop people selling pets and whatnot but they KNOW we all transfer pets and if they will insist on making avatars that require certain pets, well they're virtually asking us to move pets around. It's unfair that the system is so unsafe, they should put something more secure in place in recognition of the fact that their avatars require us to transfer pets we wouldn't otherwise be transferring.

Phew. Rant over!

*sighs* I lost my first ever pet in a transfer to another account of mine. Electra_01, named after my favourite "CATS" (the musical) character, Electra. I had spent forever training her, and raising the NP to paint her Electric.

I loved to roleplay her. Fun, great times I had...*whimper* No use in crying over spilled milk, though...it's something almost all Neopians go through, I guess...

well, once i tried to transfer my pet b0obo0_bunnie to my main account, but someone else got her. I had an ona equipped to my pet (worth 200k back then). but since he was a New Member, he probably just searched the wiz then priced it 99,999. i was so angry i didnt have enough nps to buy my ona back. well, yeah i got sad. but then i got a fountain faerie quest and a cybunny trans potion. so i just made a new pet, fed it the potion, then the fountain faerie painted her island :)

now b0obo0_bunnie has a new owner. Last Spotted : 296 days ago

grr. just grrr.

That's an awful slippery slope. As soon as that happens, scammers start moving pets to their accounts, people start selling pets, etc. Nobody says you *have* to get all the avatars. The pet ones are rewards for having a certain pet... I honestly believe that neo should up the number of days you have to wait to abandon a pet to 7. People will think twice about lending and losing a pet.

Twinkly, I'm really sorry you lost your quiggle. If you need anything, let me know. :)

I swear, there's always several new "I lost a pet" topics here every week...

I agree. There is always a risk and unless you are wiling to take that risk, you shouldn't be transferring a pet.--and the risk is made even worse when there is an expensive petpet like a mazzew attached to the pet.

My daughter has successfully transferred several painted pets (babies, jellies, plushie) to her dad and me and to secondary accounts, but knows that there is always a risk involved in doing so. She also knows the best time of day to do them (in other words, do them when NO ONE is on)--never in the evening (US time), never on a Thursday (Better than You released), never on a weekend, never when the snowager is asleep-- a Tuesday morning at 10:00 am is the perfect time of day. And she never, ever keeps the petpet with it--that is just asking for trouble because some people pound surf just to be able to later sell the petpet. And, she does it herself by having both accounts open on the same computer at the same time--one on IE and one on Netscape. She has the autolink for the transfered pet ready in one window before the pet is abandoned in the other window. And, finally, she has really quick little fingers with which to type.

Never, ever expect to transfer a painted pet to a friend if you are on two different computers and at two different locations. Unless you are in the same room and have both accounts open on the same computer, you are just asking for trouble.

No one has to give you the pet back--and personally, I think it is kind of rude asking anyone to do so. They spent their time looking for the perfect pet in the pound, paid nps for it, and are excited about getting a painted pet, and then you burst their bubble by asking for it back. I am sure to upset a lot of you by making this statement--but that is the way it is.

Lots of people can't afford pbs and therefore, pound surf to find a painted pet. It is not fair to take that pet away from them simply because you failed at your attempt to transfer it.

And, besides, the chances of you being able to get that painted pet back from the new owner are next to impossible, even if the person who adopted it is nice enough to put it back in the pound again so you can adopt it. Unless you have both accounts open on the same computer, most likely you will not get the timing down to the exact second and a third party will intercept the pet--leaving both of you disappointed and a totally new owner to deal with.

EDIT: And, why do I take this stance, you might ask? Because when my daughter just started playing Neopets, she couldn't afford a pb. She found a rainbow korbat in the pound and paid 2000 nps for it (because of its level). She got horribly harassing neomails from the person who put it up for adoption and from the intended recipient--telling her to turn it over or else. And not just one neomail but 50 in an hour. Try telling a kid who did absolutely nothing wrong but be in the right place at the right time and who was lucky enough to get a rainbow pet that she has to give it back--and especially when the people who transferred it feel that they still have ownership of it (gee, I think that stops when the pet begs you 15 times not to do it before the abandonment takes place) and then are downright nasty in their requests for it back. Ownership stops when the pet is abandoned--regardless of how much time or nps you put into the pet.

And, I have experienced the loss of a pet first-hand. My daughter had a cloud gelert that she was attempting to give to me and someone else got it instead. Before the trade, my daughter had written (without my knowledge) in the pet's petpage that it was an attempted transfer of a pet and if someone intercepted it, would they please give it back? The sweet thing who got it offered to give it back and I said no. I told her that she was so nice that I wanted her to keep it--that if we even tried another transfer, someone else might get it instead--and I would much rather that she have it than someone else who might not be as nice.

Transferring is extremely risky, and one should know the concequences and accept them if it happens. I completely agree with what Morningstar has said. Everyone get so caught up on the fact that they lost their pet, and they don't even consider how the other person feels when they are asked to give the pet back. Then there's the high risk of losing the pet in another transfer. I also find it rude to ask other people for money to help get the pet back, because say they give you the money, then *poof*, you loose the pet in another transfer. The donators gave their money away for nothing.

i am ok if players just visit the pound to adopt a painted pet to keep. however, it seems that there are perennial pound sitters that snag painted pets and create new account to store them when they run out of space.

Mystique, I am there with you. However, you can't tell who is legit and who isn't. It is unfortunate that they do not have a system to allow people to transfer pets to another account. Perhaps, the perennial pound surfing would be stopped if Neopets could somehow limit each IP address to one adoption a day.

They want 300K. I think we all know thats not going to happen. I have about 50K.

Plus, how do I know she will even give the stupid thing back at all? She could just take the money and run? What would I do then?

EDIT: PLEASE can anyone lend me 250K? I know it's a lot, but this is so important to me, I have nothing, nothing to sell, this is a smurfing nightmare.

Shaking? o.O I've lost an account worth of at least 2.3 million.

*pats* Ah well, but (not being rude) it reallyis your fault becaue you surely knew the side-chances. There are people who roam the pound hunting for LE/painted pets, and this guy snatched it before the other guy could get it.

Transferring is EXTREMELY risky. Remember hat kids :P

I didn't post this for sympathy you know, just out of annoyance. I know it's my own fault, some of you seem to have very strong views about transfering pets.

Actually though, it wasn't just a random transfer. I was lending it to the friend who brought me the island paintbrush in the first place. It only seemed fair. And I have managed to transfer pets before, including a grey one and other painted pets. I just couldn't believe that this had happened to my favorite, oldest pet :(

I don't need to borrow anything, although your very kind for offering. The person who got it seemed quite responsable and has mailed me today to ask me to let her know when I come online. So, you never know.

twinkle i'm sorry to hear of that :) and good luck transferring back :)

with pound surfers and transfered pets, having people harrass you back is irritating, annoying and make you want to hunt them down. i was transferring as pet which had been painted by the lab, and i'ld managed to do it before, on a dialup connection, so though i could repeat my feat. i forgot to remove the petpet, a white ona, and when i mailed for the pet back, the person said no. i offered for the petpet at least, and they wanted 50k *they sold for like 10k at the time* so i just said no. and then, they kept constanting messaging me back like *muahaha, shes mine mine mine* ect. for like 30 neomails *i was off playing a game* i told her to stop, blocked her and a few days later the account was abandoned.

now people like that really annoy me.

If you see my sanity, get it to give me a call.

Did you get your 75K and larnikin back? Otherwise, you must be broke too! Poor thing! -sends you a present- I hope that cheers you up. ^_^

You have given Plushie Island Paintbrush to User 'twinklyspangle'. Click the button below to continue.

EDIT:

Its not that hard... I've recieved many pets from transfers and the people aren't next to me. My jetsam for example. And even using neomail and the boards I have. I mean, as long as you are a quick typer, have the adoption link, know when to time the transfer, know when to say to be ready to refresh, and if possible use AIM or MSN messanger, usually you actually end up with that pet. Obviously, there is a risk but saying its next to impossible is totally wrong.
