I don't see really advanced maths coming into this plot - that's for the Lenny Conundrum. If the plot is meant to be easy for younger players to follow, it wouldn't use trigonometry and differential calculus.

Agree. Agree. Agree. [infinity] I don't do math. I do spelling. OOOOH I have a theory! Maybe we have to add up all the star coordinates of the Protector, Gatherer, Dreamer, etc., get our six supercoordinates(I guess I'll call them that), which will tell us some important fact like where the DF is hiding, how to defeat her, where you can get Fyora's Rod.....? It's only a theory. :D However, since little kids may do the plot, perhaps Neopets will let them use a calculator to add them up...

But, with lots of minus numbers, this could make the six coordinates miles apart. And, 'stellar drift' means that some of these constellations shift a lot. I'm certain that maths will not come into this plot.

Ohhhhh, but we have a calculator now, the Astrolabe. ;) Surely any "younger player" with a calculator can do "advanced" mathematics (better than I probably can)? :P

I'm not calling advanced mathematics multiplying 253 by 17 (although that is pretty complicated). It's just if TNT uses some of the formulae that they use in the Lenny Conundrum, then younger children will struggle. I mean, how many 8 year olds do you know who know how to do trigonometry, or Pythagoras' Theorum?

It's the boat right at the top, like it says on the first post.

I know plenty younger than 8 that, if they can use a computer, can search Wikipedia for things like Astrolabe and click on links such as http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triangulation which involves fairly simple math with the most basic of calculators. Besides, it's not what you know, it's who you know (especially at that age). ;) If you're 8 years old with a basic calculator, a brain, and play neopets, you are either capable or hopefully have a friend or a parent to help you out. I do believe TNT tries very hard through things like this to educate and prepare younger players for all sorts of things they may already be exposed to or will be exposed to soon.

But I think that, primarily, this site is there to have fun, and if you need to spend time asking your parents about trigonometry, then it turns more into a maths lesson than anything else. I doubt that Neopets would want people to have to rely on outside sources, such as Wikipedia (magnificent and useful though it is) and parents to provide plot solutions. And, it would be really annoying if you came this far in the plot, only to be let down by a puzzle involving some advanced mathematical function, that you know you would be unable to do.

But I am of course willing to ignore everything that I've just written should it prove to be true that there is maths involved in this, and invite everybody else to do the same, should the situation arise. :)

Hey! Who says learning math isn't fun? :D I think that TNT expects us to rely on others for problem-solving. It is a social site, and the ultimate goal is to bring people together to cooperate. They have some MENSA-type plots, really, and without things like PPT and friends, many of us "older players" would not be able to figure out many of these puzzles either.

EDIT: I agree with your sentiment that it would disappointing to come so far in a plot only to not be able to do it on one's own, but that is the nature of learning to the best of one's ability and, when one can't, asking for help. Such as I had to do on the "time tunnel" portion in the LDP. Pft.

However (and here I am, arguing again), there is also the fact that this plot is meant to be a mini-plot. Whether this still constitutes 'mini' is debatable, but, generally, I think that using advanced maths would be expanding the plot too much.

Yes, I admit it, I've run out of arguments! I just feel that it would not be right - no better reason than that.

And I enjoy maths. It's one of my favourite subjects, because I find it so easy!

Yes, yes, i remember other plots were insanely hard. you had to know a good bit about php and have an insane amount of logic and patience and skill, in order to get anywhere.
and look at the lenny conundrums. they're insanely random, and frequently need info from outside sources to solve. i remember one having to do with structural engineering, and it was so impossible to do unless you had access to an engineer

I think I shall have to admit defeat here, and go to bed, as I am InSaNely tired (as avid Neoquesters would say)

My final argument for you to savagely rip apart is that the plot so far has been relatively simple - no complicatedness or anything. Surely they wouldn't make it harder now.

And already, a paragraph after the argument, it already falls apart. TNT are notoriously evil, and want to make it harder just when we are relaxing. Never mind - I'll be glad when it is over, and somebody is proved right. More likely than not it will not be me.

Yawn.

Goodnight.

So has anyone figured out when a new constellation is going to become available? I am going crazy with the maps and the tab key. lol
