For those topics one could describe as the forum equivalent of a twinkie. Word games, forum contests and giveaways are all the rage here.

.:Requiem:. wrote:A brilliant point, Moogie, about wanting to reply to the judges. I feel much the same way, so..

Anyway, I'm out for sure this time (13) and I don't think I'll be entering again. It's pretty obvious that regardless of how much work you put into an entry, if it's not amazingly well-made with some fancy-arse program, you're not getting anything for it.

Anyway, to the judges: I think yu really underestimate the difficulties of making a blog in PAINT for crying out loud. For Mithros sake, I had to re-pixel in everything that is under my text area (part of the hammock and the cat's paw). So, yeah. It's a competition about quality and not effort, so...I'm out.

And I really fail to see why we even have to include our program used in the entry if it's not even going to be taken into consideration by the judges...

Requiem, it's not about how much work you put into it, it's about the final product. I will be damn well surprised if a person using Paint ever wins PPTTG. The judges do not judge on programs, they judge on the final product, no matter what you used to get there. Being PPTTG is not about what program you use. It's about the finished product. And I'm sorry if I offend you, but a finished product with Paint cannot compete to a finished product of Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. It even said this in the rules once, no idea if it is still there- if you have Paint, you're unlikely to go very far. You are simply very limited, and your graphics are nearly guaranteed not to turn out as nice. And PPTTG isn't about putting people down or making others feel superior, either. It's about improving on graphics. All the ousted people shouldn't be completely upset they've been ousted, because hopefully they've gotten all they joined the competition for- advice. It's not about winning or losing, it's about getting better, which ousting helps you do.

I know I'm not in this anymore, but I saw this post and wanted to give my two cents, being a former avid user of Paint.

Thanks, Dawn, and I totally understand that (actually, if I'm not mistaken, I said it several time sin my post...) And I'm not really complaining about it. Basically, this is just the result of what seems to me like a lot of wasted effort.

Dawn, I couldn't have said it better myself. :)

Wasted effort? Well, if you didn't learn anything, I suppose it was. And technically anyone who loses in this competition is part of this so called 'wasted effort'. Because everyone works hard in this competition from what I've seen, no matter what program they use.

Sometimes you can work hard and lose in this. It's a simple fact, however unfortunate.

To those wondering and stuff, I was four. It was dead obvious though, only like three people in PPT like Andy Hunter.

Note to judges - I did the grain thing myself. Being someone who knows very few image effects image wise, I decided to mess around.

Marissa - I usually try to avoid using brushes, atleast like that. I thought it looked good this time.

Jaye - I did put effort into this and I did the best I could. That's all I can say. :)

Thank you for the imput though, for this round and the last.

Also, sorry if I sound sorry for myself or rude or something.

Ya know...
Welcome to the world of art/art related subjects. Art infact until you become a big name where people actually WANT what you produce, is all about competition. Many artists make their living by entering commisions for things like sculptures or for jurried gallery selections, and unfortunately there are winners and losers.

And if it was a wasted effort, I must ask the question, what did you expect to get out of this competition when you entered? You keep quoting that you used paint as a program, yes i'll acknowledge that it's difficult, but did you think that you'd be awarded bonus points for doing so? As stated, it's all about the final result. If you feel it was a wasted effort working towards your final result then thats your doing, and nobody elses.

just a few things.

honestly have a hard time to make any sense of the picture arrangement combined with those colors. I assume the textbox is mean to be to the left, and there's no real problem with that, unless you want the scrollbar to cut straight through the blog. Nevertheless, I strongly like your choice of font and the placement of it.

i was hoping there'd be a way to force the scrollbar to the left

That doesn't follow web standards, so I would not have approved of that in any case.

moogie wrote:just to say, i don't think i like the anonymous entry thing much, there were many times i really wanted to reply to the judges concerns about my blog, but couldn't. i also wanted to give a small tidbit for my reasonings behind doing something not so normal, but oh well, i guess i'll say it now.

After I've done my ratings feel free to PM me with comments (unless this goes against the rules somehow... enlighten me, Flamey-san :P)

I can tell you did, but it just somehow doesn't look enough. It's like it's lack of something. I apologize for implying that you didn't put effort, I know how it feels like because I too, when comes to judging my own work, feel I didn't put enough effort even though I spend hours on it.

*pokes Medli* 3 1/2. You, me, Liz and Olivia ATTEMPTS to like him. XD But, go Medli! I liked it. Go. :roflol: (go to andyhunter.com and click Lyrics and Inspiration)

I was number 2, hence the plusONE reference (Be Love).

The image you've chosen is too light.

That was the way it uploaded. Original original image.

Marissa - I tried to get the stroke (it was done in PS, first time doing something like that in PS, milestone! ^^) right, but 2 was too much, one was not enough, so I added a glow and left it.

Doesn't go against any rules that I know of. And if I don't know of them, well, then I think it's safe to say that it's fine. :P

moogie 1, ninjausagi 7, and Reqiuem 13 cannot participate in this round.

Round 3
-Make a wallpaper
-Cannot include any image whatsoever of water (because I don't want any beach/river/whatever wallpapers)
-Dimensions 800x600 OR 1024x768
- It has to be functional.

This round is not going to be anonymous. So just post your wallpaper, original image(s), and program(s) used HERE ON THIS THREAD when you're done.

If you don't understand something, ask questions. Questions are good. And us judges tend to have answers. :P (As long as the questions are relevant to PPTTG, of course.)

Exactly what I meant. The image you've chosen is too light. I know you like that image and can't help using it but you could have chosen a darker one. Which is why I understand the contrast problem.
