[Main positions filled.

Update: Tweaked the "Fighter" title to "Warrior" as I really don't like "Fighter".]

It is common belief that it is the end of the World. The wind stops, the seas are wild, fires spring up and the earth begins to rot. All the people can do is to wait and cling onto their last hope: a prophecy made long ago:

"When the World is veiled in darkness, Four Guardians will bring the light."

The World

The World round in shape and is home to many different inhabitants: humans, elves, dwarves, fairies, dragons and so on. Despite the numerous races, for the most part the World is a natural wilderness. The people of the World - people meaning all the civilised races, some dragons and mermaids included - have learned to live without taking too much from the World that already gives them so much. There are relatively few technological advances and thus, very little travelling from country to country or even city to city. It is safer and easier to simply remain at home and go about your own business. Regardless of this apparent lack of interest in travelling, there is another good reason why most stay where it is fortified: monsters and fiends roam the wild. Put together, there are probably ten times more the different kinds of monsters as there are people - perhaps even as much as sixty. Nobody really knows the answer to that because nobody has really gone off to find out. It would be a suicide mission sure to fail anyway. Of course, there are the few travellers who wander from place to place, bringing news of other cities in the country, but no one has ever really left their own country. Leaving a hometown is quite enough, thank you.

The Elemental Orbs

In terms of the World itself, it functions on four sacred Elemental Orbs. These Orbs are small and round in shape, much like the World itself. There is an Orb for each Element: Fire, Wind, Water and Earth. These Orbs' responsibility is to ensure the harmonious cycle of the World is working well. Due to the nature of these Orbs, they are safe-guarded in an elite school. The school's job is to train its students to become Guardians of the Orbs, capable of protecting the stones against monsters. As one can imagine, there are many monsters and evil villians who would be more than a bit happy to lay their grubby little paws onto one of those Orbs. Imagine the havoc one could wreck with them! Thus the school must protect the Orbs at all costs.

The Orbs themselves are full of light. There are many other names for the Orbs, the most common, local name being the Light Orbs. Not necessarily a good, technical term for them (as is the official Elemental Orbs), but with a good reason behind them. That reason would be the bright light that shines from them. The light is different from any worldly light that normal people know of. The Orbs' light is an intense, bright one that almost blinds someone who looks at it - yet the light is also very calm and soothing so it does not hurt the vision. A person could spend hours just gazing at the light and leave it feeling complete harmony.

The School of the Orbs

Simply named after its duty to protect the Orbs, the large white mansion houses elite professors and students of the human race. But why only humans? It is because each race has its own particular tendencies. Dwarves enjoy mining, elves enjoy taking care of the forests, nature and animals and so forth. Humans are the only ones that enjoy protection of the people. Most other races do not have the yearning, the inclination or the instinct to protect whole other races. Although they may grieve, they are more detached from the situations (thus they usually have longer lives). Elves do protect - but nature itself with people not included. Humans, in their ego, self-glorification and pure character, are the only ones suited to protect the Orbs, an arrangement other races are perfectly happy with. At any rate, humans are good at protecting if not much else. Thus the school was built within the "City of Dreams".

There are certain humans who are born with special elemental powers. The chances of this happening is about one in ever twenty-first person. It is a particularly rare phenomenon but with the rate of human population, enough to supply the school with students. These elementals are trained first to harnass their power, then to master it. Students may spend at least ten years just trying to control their power before they learn to use it. Some never reach the level of mastering it.

Each element is particularly suited to a job: Fires to fighting, Waters to stealing, Winds to white magic and Earths to black magic. There is a cycle commonly known as the Elemental-Work Cycle. Simply speaking, certain elements such as Fire are naturally better at fighting because of the elemental Fire's traits of aggressiveness. (Not to say that a Fire Elemental is naturally aggressive, but that the actual elemental power is stronger than the others.) Additionally, each job has a particular need to draw upon certain elements' powers. Warriors often works best when using the elemental power of Fire so it makes sense that each elemental is trained in his or her special area. (To satisfy curiousity, Water is a stealthy element so the students are trained as Thieves, Wind is a gentle, caressing element so is trained in protective White Magic and Earth is a strong force when angered although easily damaged so its students are trained in offensive Black Magic. Each job and element has its own defects as well.)

Roles

Warriors are physically the strongest and fittest of all the jobs, but they cannot use magic (unless they become a master). That means if they are injured, they stay injured. To make up for this though, they have high levels of stamina as well.

Thieves have relative amounts of stamina although their forte lies in their high agility. From training their agility though, they have very little offensive or defensive power and must rely on speed to escape a fight if they are daft enough to enter one without someone to help out.

White Mages are the only ones to be able to use powerful White Magic for defence purposes. (Masters of different classes may be able to use basic white magic, but that's a long time away.) However, White Mages have low stamina, strength and offensive power. Trained in healing and protection, recent studies at the School are looking at how to defeat Undead.

Black Mages are the weakest of all within the School, but that is without surprise, for to study the Dark Arts, students often have to sacrifice their health, thus becoming physically weak and powerless to defend themselves. They are more likely to die quickly because of their low stamina, but as an opponent flanked by others, they are formidable.

Midsummer

There is a custom within the School to bring out the Orbs from where they are carefully stored and paraded around until it reaches the School's Sacred Altar. Upon this Altar the Orbs are placed and the light revealed to all present. The Altar stands directly beneath the sun at its highest point on this day so the Orbs may bask in the light and take what energy they may need. Technically they shouldn't need anything as they are meant to last as long as the World lasts, but no one objects to taking safety precautions. This is the height of Summer and the day that all the students look forward to, even though they must be on guard throughout the day. It is a solemn occasion but seeing the light is always worth it.

Until this year...

RP Time!

We are students within the School. We have been training for at least 10 years and have been able to harnass our power. The minimum age for this must be 15. Elemental powers are the ones stated above: Fire, Water, Wind or Earth. With each power is the respective role: Warrior, Thief, White Mage or Black Mage. To prove you have read the whole story, what is the common name for Elemental Orbs (write in the Secret Question section)? Please PM all bios to me before posting. I will let you know if you can post or not. There are 3 main spaces available, excluding myself. We will begin after spaces are filled up. What is in this post is not the end of the introduction so it isn't as boring as it sounds (hopefully).

Rules are as follows:

- Before the RP is started, please do not post "Save a space for me!" or "When does this start?" I will delete those.
- Any un-PMed bios posted will be deleted as well.
- Must post at least once a week, preferably once every three days.
- Attempt a good standard of RPing: readable posts.

In the "Other" category for plot-helper bio, you may say if you have an elemental power or not, what role you play, what weapons you have, how you're going to be keeping up with the story, etc. You are more than welcome to be able to fight or the like. (But please avoid being too similar to the main characters.) Note that I will be attempting to 'travel' a lot. Thanks to you all again.

Name: Alazira "Alzi the wandrer"
Age: 30+, she's not the type to say her age.
Gender: female
Appearance: Your stereotypical fire elemental, red hair tied back in a braid, blue eyes, freckles, and silver spectacles, brown pachtworked hat with wide-brimmed peaked hat, that's tip ends in a zig-zag and a charm tied at the end, A worn brown coat with the to-long sleeves rolled up, and her coat collar is almost almost always croked. Darker brown pants, and shirt that could be orange. A messanger bag slung over one sholder for spare clothes (she only has a change of underclothes), food and the like.

Personality: Blunt to the point of rudeness, with a rather caustic sence of humor (when it's not caustic it's ...odd) and at someone elses expenese more often than not. She also has many an odd habbit from wandering about the wilderness alone that present...dificulties.
And she is of course, quick to anger.
Other: She once was a student at the school (a fire elemetal), but was one of the students who would never make it to become a master. Upset by this fact and given her firey personality she left of her own accord before she given the opption to be dismissed by the school. Why she didn't return to her family, or start a family of her own and decided to wander insteed...well that's her story to tell isn't it?

As a former student, the school welcomes her back only because they are always eager to her news of other places, and the students look forward to hear her tell stories (and she is considered fairy decent at it).

She also carries a massive halberd that over the years as a wanadrer has become her trademark.
Secret Question: Thanks for the rubber ducky.

((*puts a rubber ducky in Tenny's pocket*))

Name: Cid
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Elemental Power: Water
Role: Thief
Apperance: Short brown hair that occasionally sticks up in tufts to give a just-woken-up look, Cid can look quite sleepy and innocent at times, which he uses to his advantage. A mischevious twinkle in his eyes is most often the only thing that gives his plans away. He wears monotone outfits to camouflage himself, mostly dull colours. A worn belt around his waist has several pouches dangling from it to carry any items he "borrows".
Personality: Cid enjoys having his bit of fun, pickpocketing people's pockets for a little "practice", as he calls it. However many times he's ended up with detention, he manages to win people's goodwill back through his genuine good heart. Even if he does "borrow" things a little too long or forget that they aren't his, he means well.
Other: Although with an air of idleness, he can actually be serious about his work. Cid is ranked one of the better Water Thieves of the School. To him, the School is home, being an orphan.

[Now we may begin! But before that, I would like to say I welcome you all as great role players. You are free to add in plot twists, partly because I hate controlling a story, partly because I know you are all good storytellers.]

Shouts and calls rang out about the town of Ashling as people enjoyed the festivities. Vendors were calling out their wares and the clinking of coins could be heard as food was bought, games played and bets were made. Midsummer's Day was the highlight of the year and everyone did their best to enjoy it, whether that meant making or spending money.

It had been a public holiday for years now, as people would be "sick" on that day from work, later to be seen in the town square having glugged down six mugs of mead. Businesses had given up trying to get people to come in as they would be empty and desolate of any soul, so the King had called for this to be a day everyone could have off, with much relief to most of Ashling. Some, like vendors, could not have picked a better day for business so would be seen preparing for this day weeks in advance. There was always fierce competition to sell the most this, that or the other. Others enjoyed saving up for the year to spend on this day. Yes indeed, Midsummer's was a time for enjoyment.

Not least of all Cid, who was having the time of his life. He slid through the crowd easily with the air of a slacker, his quick fingers disappearing into rich people's pouches (noticably, the rich people seemed plump, red and round from being well-nourished) and retrieving pretty coins that glimmered in the sunlight for a moment before he moved on again, unseen by anyone except other thieves who were wise enough not to interfere.

This is easy stuff, he thought cheerily, lazily dipping his hand into a man who was just steaming in the face for the heat and a brawl he was having over whether the mead should have cream on top or not. He retrieved a selection of silver coins and scattered them randomly as he passed to the poorer kids. The poor kids of the town could only watch the festivities wistfully as they had no money, so Cid had made it a yearly tradition to give them some change to spend (not that they knew who it was who threw them the coins, but they were grateful enough). It also gave Cid a glorious kind of feeling as he put himself up on a mental pedastal, a kind of fatherly, generous hero figure, taking from the rich to give to the poor. Excess change he donated to the School's funds, but not without spending a little on himself. He didn't have an allowance anyway.

Buying himself a cup of mead, he dunked it swiftly and exclaimed his appreciation to the young lady who blushed with pride. Midsummer's was such a pleasant day.

Sadly, the bell rang to call all students back to the School. The Orbs were to be taken out in an hour's time and he was needed. Sighing, he professed his deepest apologies to that disappointed young lady before disappearing into the crowd to go return to the School. Even Cid did not disobey this order, the most important one of the year.

"HehaawHEEHAW!" Brayed the old she-donkey Alzi had agreed to deliver, but as it tore off towards the city of Ashling Alzi was positive it would deliver itself to it's owner or straight into a midsummer cook-pot.

mid-summer's day eh?

Don-Dong-Dong-Dong...

The school will be setting out the orbs soon! And what she'd heard from the tanzon mountains was true (Light, send that it isn't!) then Midsummer would never be the same happy holiday again.

Sighlently thanking the lLght and the gods for not letting her put her messenger bag or her halberd on the cursed donkey (damn that farmer who couldn't affored a denect lease for the beast!). Alzi set of in the direction of the midsummer festives, the city of Ashling, and the school of the orbs.

Light send that someone will take a .... once-student's news seriously...

(short post...eheh?)

Light shone through the windows of a small clean inn, it made the hair of the young man even more red. The youngster however, seemed to be in a conversation with a young lady.

Lukas groaned deeply, he put a hand on his chest, coughing. The lady, Marik rolled her eyes, "if I didn't know you for some time..."

The other made a dramatical motion, bending over, "how could you throw me out?! Don't you see how sick this poor fellow is?"

She playfully tapped him on the head, "shame on you mister, you should be on duty! Get going."

Lukas started to laugh, retrieving a healthy outlook, "why can't I fool you? Hmm.. I guess it won't work with the professors also."

She grinned, "you are simply a poor fraud and actor. Now, and on top of that, it isn't that bad to watch the ceremony and orbs. It's only once a year."

"Yes.. but mother will be there," he finally admitted, "I managed to avoid her last weeks. I only fear what plans she will come up now."

"Lukas," Marik exclaimed, "you are old enough to resist her!"

"You haven't met her yet," Lukas answered, "she can be very convincing. Besides, you haven't lived with her the past eighteen years."

Marik sighed, "I know.. I was only joking. But you should be going now."

"Yes," Lukas turned to the door, "well.. until tomorrow I guess?" He nodded and stepped outside. Marik watched him going.

[Forgive me for this stupid post, I'm very very tired and I can't stay online for long.

Elily wandered about the campus, having apparently nothing to do. There weren't any battles at all that day so she couldn't aid anyone with her healing abilities, everyone was busy preparing this or that for the Midsummer's Festival. Elily herself felt rather excited, and really wanted to do something to help with the preparations, but then it seemed as if everything was all full up. There was absolutely nothing she could do, but to waste her energy and continue walking.

Elily was about to get tired, and was on the verge of returning to her room to sleep or do something boring, when the official school bell rang loudly. Elily snapped up, finally perked up. Finally a direction to go! She followed the steady current of students.

The dragon walked up the hill, taking arest from flying and putting his legs to good use. He stopped and leaned on his mace as he reached the top. He gazed out across a wide valley, at a small town and the large, castle-like school near it's center. It had been many years since he had been this way, his path took him far and wide but the lure of hearth and home had brought him to this place. He spread his wings and launched himself into the air, soaring out over the valley and spiraling down towards the town.

Rachelle was at the front of the enormous group of students that were now pouring back onto the campus. She, like many of the others, could hardly contain herself. Only an hour until the orbs came out! She was determined to get to the ceremony on time and see the entire thing.

Last year she hadn't seen much of the ceremony, as she had been in the hospital wing of the school for most of the time. This was due to the fact that just before the ceremony, she had been out in the market, attempting to call the attention of a particular person toward herself by standing on the edge of a large, full cart containing various different fruits.

She had been walking along the cart's edge, occasionally swinging her foot up high in the air and twirling around in time to the cheerful music being emitted from someone's flute a ways off in the crowd. Suddenly, however, the cart had tipped under her weight and begun to roll, very slowly, toward a stand displaying an assortment of little knick-knacks. Finally the cart had crashed, sending Rachelle headlong into the crowd. The result had not been pretty, and Rachelle had been in the hospital wing for two days after, much to her discontent.

But that wouldn't happen this year. She was going to be much more careful. She was going to see the ceremony this year, and she was going to make sure of it. Just don't do anything rash. She thought, holding her head high and continuing to march toward the school building, making sure that she was ahead of everyone else.

(-_- Summer sure is cutting into my RP time. I can't stand this. I'm leaving for anywhere from a week to ten days this Friday to go on vacation in California. I don't think I'm going to be able to get online there, because none of my relatives really use the internet. In fact, most of them don't even have computers at all. Anyway, I'll probably be back July 4th or 5th, and I was wondering if someone here could take my character. I know this is going to be an active RP, and I know that if I'm gone for that long, I'll come back and have ten pages worth of backtracking to do. So, if any of you would like to take my character, please PM me.)

Lukas walked underneath the great arch, which announced the beginning of the academy terrain. Already a lot of people were present. He draped his cloak a little closer around his body, edging towards the crowd.

"Excuse me," he said with a cheery voice and he push himself through the thick crowd.

"Sorry."

"Oops, I didn't see your little dog. But I think he is fine."

"Excuse me again."

"Oh, almost there."

Finally the red-headed boy reached the other edge of the crowd. Emerging in front of the doors of the academy. When he was about to open the doors, he saw another youngster trying to reach the School.

"Hiya, Cid."

Cid looked over to the source of the voice and grinned in recognition. "Morning Lukas," he said, then looked up at the sun. "Light, I'm blinded!" He rubbed his eyes hard but only saw white dots. Squinting, he peered at where he thought Lukas was.

"I really ought to stop looking at the sun," he mused ruefully. "Especially when it's Midsummer, noon and that - that - thing is at its brightest than any other time in the whole year." He squinted a little more and gradually regained his sight. "I got it wrong though, 'Noon, Lukas'."

He sauntered along, silent only for three seconds (a record for Cid when he had company). "Say, you aren't looking forward to this anymore than I am, eh? I mean, it's - "

The half bell drowned the rest of his flood of words, ringing strongly. Only half an hour left to the ceremony. Cid sighed. In less than fifteen minutes they would be gathering in their respective, designated positions. Fighters, Thieves, White and Black Mages were grouped in four big chunks to surround the Orbs as protection. They had been drilled for all possibilities: someone stealing the things in broad daylight, the Orbs disappearing through magic, teleportation and who knows what other "circumstances" that might arise. According to history, the last time anything had happened was two thousand years ago. Way too long to matter, he thought.

"Cor," he whistled, trying to attract Lukas' attention. "Look at that." A dragon or two were flying in the sky. Each year there would be guests. This year, some elves and dwarves had been invited as well as the dragons. Cid - as well as most students - had never met a friendly, civilised dragon before. The only ones they had encountered on their practice fights were wild things that blew flame at everything. He remembered losing his hair one time. That White Mage hadn't cast the fire-proof spell properly.

Lukas frowned, shielding his eyes against the piercing light, trying to look up.

"First time for me," he said, though not trying to admit his awe, "bloody, he is bigger then I imagined. Tell me this just large cloud drifting past the sun instead of a some huge flying reptile."
