Update: Tweaked the "Fighter" title to "Warrior" as I really don't like "Fighter".]
It is common belief that it is the end of the World. The wind stops, the seas are wild, fires spring up and the earth begins to rot. All the people can do is to wait and cling onto their last hope: a prophecy made long ago:
"When the World is veiled in darkness, Four Guardians will bring the light."
The World
The World round in shape and is home to many different inhabitants: humans, elves, dwarves, fairies, dragons and so on. Despite the numerous races, for the most part the World is a natural wilderness. The people of the World - people meaning all the civilised races, some dragons and mermaids included - have learned to live without taking too much from the World that already gives them so much. There are relatively few technological advances and thus, very little travelling from country to country or even city to city. It is safer and easier to simply remain at home and go about your own business. Regardless of this apparent lack of interest in travelling, there is another good reason why most stay where it is fortified: monsters and fiends roam the wild. Put together, there are probably ten times more the different kinds of monsters as there are people - perhaps even as much as sixty. Nobody really knows the answer to that because nobody has really gone off to find out. It would be a suicide mission sure to fail anyway. Of course, there are the few travellers who wander from place to place, bringing news of other cities in the country, but no one has ever really left their own country. Leaving a hometown is quite enough, thank you.
The Elemental Orbs
In terms of the World itself, it functions on four sacred Elemental Orbs. These Orbs are small and round in shape, much like the World itself. There is an Orb for each Element: Fire, Wind, Water and Earth. These Orbs' responsibility is to ensure the harmonious cycle of the World is working well. Due to the nature of these Orbs, they are safe-guarded in an elite school. The school's job is to train its students to become Guardians of the Orbs, capable of protecting the stones against monsters. As one can imagine, there are many monsters and evil villians who would be more than a bit happy to lay their grubby little paws onto one of those Orbs. Imagine the havoc one could wreck with them! Thus the school must protect the Orbs at all costs.
The Orbs themselves are full of light. There are many other names for the Orbs, the most common, local name being the Light Orbs. Not necessarily a good, technical term for them (as is the official Elemental Orbs), but with a good reason behind them. That reason would be the bright light that shines from them. The light is different from any worldly light that normal people know of. The Orbs' light is an intense, bright one that almost blinds someone who looks at it - yet the light is also very calm and soothing so it does not hurt the vision. A person could spend hours just gazing at the light and leave it feeling complete harmony.
The School of the Orbs
Simply named after its duty to protect the Orbs, the large white mansion houses elite professors and students of the human race. But why only humans? It is because each race has its own particular tendencies. Dwarves enjoy mining, elves enjoy taking care of the forests, nature and animals and so forth. Humans are the only ones that enjoy protection of the people. Most other races do not have the yearning, the inclination or the instinct to protect whole other races. Although they may grieve, they are more detached from the situations (thus they usually have longer lives). Elves do protect - but nature itself with people not included. Humans, in their ego, self-glorification and pure character, are the only ones suited to protect the Orbs, an arrangement other races are perfectly happy with. At any rate, humans are good at protecting if not much else. Thus the school was built within the "City of Dreams".
There are certain humans who are born with special elemental powers. The chances of this happening is about one in ever twenty-first person. It is a particularly rare phenomenon but with the rate of human population, enough to supply the school with students. These elementals are trained first to harnass their power, then to master it. Students may spend at least ten years just trying to control their power before they learn to use it. Some never reach the level of mastering it.
Each element is particularly suited to a job: Fires to fighting, Waters to stealing, Winds to white magic and Earths to black magic. There is a cycle commonly known as the Elemental-Work Cycle. Simply speaking, certain elements such as Fire are naturally better at fighting because of the elemental Fire's traits of aggressiveness. (Not to say that a Fire Elemental is naturally aggressive, but that the actual elemental power is stronger than the others.) Additionally, each job has a particular need to draw upon certain elements' powers. Warriors often works best when using the elemental power of Fire so it makes sense that each elemental is trained in his or her special area. (To satisfy curiousity, Water is a stealthy element so the students are trained as Thieves, Wind is a gentle, caressing element so is trained in protective White Magic and Earth is a strong force when angered although easily damaged so its students are trained in offensive Black Magic. Each job and element has its own defects as well.)
Roles
Warriors are physically the strongest and fittest of all the jobs, but they cannot use magic (unless they become a master). That means if they are injured, they stay injured. To make up for this though, they have high levels of stamina as well.
Thieves have relative amounts of stamina although their forte lies in their high agility. From training their agility though, they have very little offensive or defensive power and must rely on speed to escape a fight if they are daft enough to enter one without someone to help out.
White Mages are the only ones to be able to use powerful White Magic for defence purposes. (Masters of different classes may be able to use basic white magic, but that's a long time away.) However, White Mages have low stamina, strength and offensive power. Trained in healing and protection, recent studies at the School are looking at how to defeat Undead.
Black Mages are the weakest of all within the School, but that is without surprise, for to study the Dark Arts, students often have to sacrifice their health, thus becoming physically weak and powerless to defend themselves. They are more likely to die quickly because of their low stamina, but as an opponent flanked by others, they are formidable.
Midsummer
There is a custom within the School to bring out the Orbs from where they are carefully stored and paraded around until it reaches the School's Sacred Altar. Upon this Altar the Orbs are placed and the light revealed to all present. The Altar stands directly beneath the sun at its highest point on this day so the Orbs may bask in the light and take what energy they may need. Technically they shouldn't need anything as they are meant to last as long as the World lasts, but no one objects to taking safety precautions. This is the height of Summer and the day that all the students look forward to, even though they must be on guard throughout the day. It is a solemn occasion but seeing the light is always worth it.
Until this year...
RP Time!
We are students within the School. We have been training for at least 10 years and have been able to harnass our power. The minimum age for this must be 15. Elemental powers are the ones stated above: Fire, Water, Wind or Earth. With each power is the respective role: Warrior, Thief, White Mage or Black Mage. To prove you have read the whole story, what is the common name for Elemental Orbs (write in the Secret Question section)? Please PM all bios to me before posting. I will let you know if you can post or not. There are 3 main spaces available, excluding myself. We will begin after spaces are filled up. What is in this post is not the end of the introduction so it isn't as boring as it sounds (hopefully).
Rules are as follows:
- Before the RP is started, please do not post "Save a space for me!" or "When does this start?" I will delete those.
- Any un-PMed bios posted will be deleted as well.
- Must post at least once a week, preferably once every three days.
- Attempt a good standard of RPing: readable posts.

In the "Other" category for plot-helper bio, you may say if you have an elemental power or not, what role you play, what weapons you have, how you're going to be keeping up with the story, etc. You are more than welcome to be able to fight or the like. (But please avoid being too similar to the main characters.) Note that I will be attempting to 'travel' a lot. Thanks to you all again.
