Proper article to write on the history, use, and changes of the Neopoint.

Neopoints (or NP) are the currency used in Neopia. Neopoints can be gained through playing Games, buying and selling items in shops or shares on the Stock Market, and through winning various Contests.

Neopoints don't have 'physical' denominations, that is, they are not items like Dubloons. There have been several ways of representing Neopoints attempted in various games and random events, the most successful of these being the swagbag. These are usually labelled with their various amounts (usually 10, 50, 100, 500, 750, or 5000) or occasionally a question mark signifying an unknown quantity.

In a Neopian Times editorial, it was stated that a 1 NP coin was small and gold. The Bag Of Broken Neopoints supports this, as broken gold coins are seen spilling from the bag.

Random Events

Neopoints are a large part of Random Events, where random happenings around Neopets give you a little or a lot of Neopoints...

Tyrannian

Trivia

  • When referring to large sums of Neopoints, it is common for users to abbreviate one thousand Neopoints to k, which stands for kilo. Kilo comes from the Greek word for thousand and is used by SI to denote 103: 10k NP, for example, represents 10,000 NP.
  • On February 28, 2000, if a user had less than 100 NP at the end of the day, it would be raised back to 100. This has been discontinued.
  • A Bag of Broken Neopoints can be received from Underwater Fishing, which can be repaired at the Toy Repair Shop, giving a maximum of 2,000 Neopoints. Some users have tried to scam other users in the past by saying it's possible to receive 1 million Neopoints from this method, but it was disproven in an Editorial.
