The Black Pteri is an ominous black Pteri and one of the many challengers that can be fought in the Battledome. He is often found perching on fences or trees, spouting vague omens telling of an approaching disaster. His appearance and macabre nature were inspired by the raven in the Edgar Allan Poe poem The Raven. When the Black Pteri was released on August 22, 2003, he was introduced with the following quote from the famous poem:
"Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night's Plutonian shore!"
Quoth the raven "Nevermore."
