A Lutari

The Lutari is an otter-like Neopet, released as a limited edition Neopet on April 19, 2006. Lutari are alert, friendly Neopets who enjoy playing games outside. They are excellent swimmers and spend much of their time in the water. Lutari get very upset at the thought of being left in the Neopian Pound, and will run away to parts unknown if a user even tries.

The Neopet's release was long awaited as images of the Neopet in its four basic colours as well as Island have been on the image servers for almost a year. The first time a Lutari was officially seen was at the opening of the Happy Valley Ice Cream shop on December 21, 2004, whose shopkeeper is a Lutari, under the name Mr. Chipper.

With the release of the Lutari, the launch of Lutari Island, a new Neopian world which is only accessible via mobile phones, occured on June 24, 2006. It was developed by the company In-fusio. A picture of the land has appeared in the Neopets Magazine, and many Lutari Island items have been found on the servers, including two petpets.

After Neopets revamped the site to allow for clothing, the Lutari underwent a drastic image change. This new image has not been well-received. NewBlueLutari.jpg

Trivia

  • As of October 2009, there are 34,959 (out of 35,000) Lutari populating Neopia, ranking them 52nd in popularity (out of 54 species, so it is the third rarest behind the Krawk and the Draik.)
  • Was originally known as the Mok
  • Users have expressed concern it may cost real money (through having to use a mobile phone) to acquire a Lutari as a pet, but this has since changed with the release of the Neopet.
  • The name "Lutari" comes from the otter génera Lutra.
  • The Lutari is different from other Limited Edition Neopets as they are deleted if you attempt to abandon them, making transfer of the Neopet to a new owner impossible. There are rumours that say the Lutari reappears in the create a Pet Page if pounded, but since no one is willing to pound one, it is unconfirmed. Made mention of in the editorial of issue 236 of the Neopian Times.
  • A trophy called the Lutari Talisman was added to all User Lookups on June 28, 2006. So far users can only see their own collected beads, but it's possible The Neopets Team will let other users see another's collected beads soon.
  • The Island colour was in the image database since April 19 2007, but wasn't released until April 26, 2007.
