Gold is a colour of Neopet and Petpet. Gold coloured Neopets were first released on February 28, 2001. Originally, Gold coloured Neopets could only be obtained by using the Lab Ray. However, on March 2, 2001, the Golden Paint Brush was released, allowing user to paint their Neopets Gold using the Rainbow Pool. Today, users also have the choice of changing their Neopet's colour to Gold when they complete a Fountain Faerie Quest. Alternately, a Neopet's colour can be changed to Gold by using an appropriate Morphing Potion.
Gold Petpets were released along with the Petpet Lab Ray on August 3, 2005. Since using the Petpet Lab Ray is the only way of obtaining a Gold Petpet, and Petpets that have been zapped by the Petpet Lab Ray revert to their original form when removed from a Neopet, it is impossible for a user to have a Gold Petpet in their inventory. As such, Gold Petpets cannot be bought, sold, or traded.
