Over the years, many Neopets have changed both name and form as the drawing techniques and styles of [[The Neopets Team]] developed. Most references to their previous incarnations have been removed from the website, but some still exist in past [[Caption Competition]]s and New Feature pages.

Visual alterations have not been exclusive to Neopets: on two occasions, October 2002 and March 2004, some [[Petpets]] were renamed and redesigned, and a few others have been altered at other dates.
 
If one of these PetPets were attached to a Neopet before the change, they would remain as they were while the rest of the breed changed. If these were unnattached, they would revert to their current form.
