A Book is a type of item which raises a Neopet's Intelligence, created on (need date). After being read, the book disappears in a puff of smoke, and the Neopet cannot read that book again. A book raises a Neopet's intelligence determined by the colour of the smoke it leaves behind after being read. Since books disappear after one use and many users are competetive about having their pet read as many books as possible, some books go for very high prices.
Some items are technically books, but are not considered book items because they cannot be used like one. Ramtors Spellbook and Grimoire Of Thade for example, are weapons.
Book Types
There are many different types of Books besides the basic book, which can be about any story in Neopia, while others specialize in certain topics and come from a certain world in Neopia.
Faerie Book
Released on January 14, 2001, Faerie Books come from Faerieland, and can be bought from the Faerieland Bookshop. All Faerie Book stories tell tales of Faeries and of the world of Faerieland.
Booktastic Book
Released on May 5, 2004, Booktastic Books are from Kreludor, are bought from Booktastic Books and tell tales of Kreludor and the Orange Grundos who inhibit the land.
Desert Scroll
Released on (need date), Desert Scrolls are from the Lost Desert, and canbe bought from Sutek's Scrolls (currently in Sahkmet). Tales are about the Lost Desert and its inhabitants, along with certain curses.
Qasalan Tablets
Released on (need date), The newest category of books to be added to Neopets when Qasala was free from its curse, and bought at Words of Antiquity. Tales include the history and certain aspects of the land of Qasala.

There are 2 Trophies which can be won by users with the Neopet who has read the most books out of all the Neopets in Neopia. These Trophies are place on their Neopet Lookup, where it will stay until another Neopet takes over its spot by reading more books. The first is the Neopian Book Award, released on January 23, 2002, where reading any book adds to the total number of books read. The second is the Booktastic Book Award, released on July 28, 2004, which is similar to the Neopian Book Award, except it's only given to Neopets who read the most Booktastic Books.
