Meercas have small bodies with round, [[wikipedia:mouse|mouse]]-like ears. Their body is connected to a long, flat tail reminiscent of a [[wikipedia:beaver|beaver]]'s. Meercas often support themselves on their tail, which gives them extra height. Mischievous and fun-loving, Meercas have been known to [http://www.neopets.com/tcg/displayCard.phtml?edid=2&id=29 steal toys] from other pets. Some Meercas have gone on to commit more large scale thefts - [[Heermeedjet and Merouladen]] have [[The Hunt for the Crown|stolen King Coltzan III's crown]] and [[The Great Qasalan Caper|robbed the Qasalan Treasury]].  
Meercas are energetic, fun loving Neopets who love playing tricks on others and eating neggs. They are super fast which makes it very hard to catch one, and prone to being pranksters. Though many Neopets have tails, Meercas are the only ones with a tail many times larger than their body. They were first released on February 7, 2001 making Meercas the 40th Neopets species.
 
When painted [[Maraquan]], Meercas resemble [[wikipedia:porcupinefish|porcupinefish]] and [[wikipedia:Tetraodontidae|pufferfish]]. In the [[Neopets Trading Card Game]], Meercas are associated with the element of air.
