The '''Kau''' (a [[wikipedia:homophone|homophone]] for ''cow'') is a [[wikipedia:cow|cow]]-like [[Neopet]]. They roam [[Neopia]] in herds looking for pastures to play in and [http://www.neopets.com/tcg/displayCard.phtml?edid=8&id=45 graze]. Kaus have [[wikipedia:cloven hooves|cloven hooves]] and [[wikipedia:horns|horns]], but don't appear to have [[wikipedia:udders|udders]].

Kaus seem to have a penchant for magic - [[Kalandra]] and the [[Kau Fortune Teller]] both use crystal balls to predict the future, and [[Kauvara]] is Neopia's foremost potion maker. They also love to sing - although they only know one note, [http://www.neopets.com/petinfo.phtml?type=Kau "Moo!"].  
The Kaus' milk has restorative powers. Gentle and peace loving, Kaus love large green pastures on which it can feed itself. In battle, the Kaus focus is more defensive than offensive, but that doesn't mean it can't still pack a punch. Its horns are good enough to teach those foolish enough to annoy it a lesson they won't forget. Kaus are natural mothers, and should anyone choose to search for one to befriend, look no further than a hospital or community orientated project. Also extremely intelligent, Kaus are known for their magical potion-making ingenuity.


While Kaus can eat many foods, if they eat any ''milk'' item, like ''Kau Kau Farm Milk'', their hit points are fully restored. In the [[Neopets Trading Card Game]], they are associated with the element of earth.

Kaus travel in herds moving from field to field looking for the best Neopian pastures to play in. They love to sing, but they only know "MOOOOOO!!!"
The Kau resembles a [[wikipedia:cow|cow]] (with the same pronunciation). Kaus generally move in herds and enjoy singing. They are shy, but have no problem using their horns if threatened. The pet now known as the Kau was originally named [[wikipedia:Macy Gray|Macy Gray]], and was designed to look like the singer carrying a ray gun. They are considered to be good battledome pets, because they have cheap weapons and have 10% resistance to everything.

The Kau was first introduced at [[Neopets|the site]]'s founding as the [[wikipedia:Macy Gray|Macy Gray]], based on the singer of the same name but armed with a ray gun and with her name hyphenated. It was replaced with the bovine-like Kau on 26 July 2000 "for legal reasons".
