The Battleground of the Obelisk is played in two-week rounds.  Only three of the six warring factions participate in each round.  The three participating faction are randomly selected; however, whenever a faction wins a round, they are excluded from participating in the next round.  As such, a single faction cannot win two rounds in a row.

Each round begins with a three day sign-up period.  During this time, users are allowed to join any of the three participating factions.  After sign-ups are over, a battling period begins. During this four-day period, users can rack up points for their faction by defeating certain Battleground exclusive [[1-player challenger]]s in the [[Battledome]].

When the battling period ends, a seven day truce period begins.  The faction with the most points wins the round and receives the Oracle's blessings. Users that supported the wining faction are presented with a selection of five different [[Battleground of the Obelisk#Boons|boons]] and are allowed to choose one.  Users who supported either of the two losing factions will instead receive a small [[Battleground of the Obelisk#Consolation Prizes|consolation prize]].

==Opponents==
Each faction is represented by five unique Battledome opponents.  After a user joins one of the three factions participating in the current round, they will be able to fight all the opponents from the other two remaining factions.  

All of these opponents are exclusive to the Battleground of the Obelisk, and they cannot be fought any other way:

==Boons==
Boons are temporary boosts that give users specific advantages on the [[Neopets|Neopets website]].  There are many different boons and each one has a unique effect.  Boons can only be earned by supporting the winning faction during a round of the Battleground of the Obelisk and participating in at least 10 battles during that round.  Each faction has a fixed set of five boons that they can receive from the Oracle.  The exception to this is the Awakened, who instead are presented with a set of five boons that are randomly selected from among the other faction's boons.  

Boons only remain active during the one-week truce period that occurs at the end of a round.   They expire as soon as sign-ups for the next round begin.
