SNES all the way! And nothing has, does, or will ever beat the GBA SP in handheld gaming, unless Nintendo improves on GB technology again.

ahhh, the joys of hearing fanboys and new gamers talk about, oh the PS2 and Ybox ownz0rs!?@

no, they dont, they are no wheres near the best console list, so just stop...

anyways, the best console was the N64 hands down. It was just great, if i remember correctly the only 64-bit Console, and it was amazing, it blew the Playstation out of the water, just its major hits alone should be enough to make you want one badly, and most peoplelooked at the controller and said, dubya tee ef? but it was perfect for all kinds of games, so who could complain!?

Goldeneye - Best console FPS ever, any real gamer can tell you that, its no contest... and if you say Halo is better, go read my Worst Game Ever post...
it was so much fun Multiplayer, featuring what? like 25 characters and 10 levels that never got old? it was just amazing. The bad part about new FPS such as Halo, is that everyone plays one map, for Halo it's Blood Gulch, there's probably 50/60 serbers over XBC that play that map, its annoying...

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - probably the best Zelda game, and one of my personal favorite RPGs of all time, it was great, just the ffact that what you did in one time, affected almost everything in the other time. so it was really the first 4-d game if you think about it...

Super Mario 64 - in my opinion of course, the greatest Mario game since Super Mario Bros. 3. It was amazing, 1000's of things to do, 100's of secrets, it was the model Adventure game, and some of the newer games should take a lesson from games like SM64. It was also the most original Mario, where the Paintings were really portals to the worlds they displayed, has more originality than the old marios, where you walked around the main screen and picked a scene from each world, like 4-3 or some stupid number...

Super Smash Brothers - ahhh, i can only remember the hours i spent with friends playing this extraordinary Arcade Fighting game, it was just so much fun to bash all the classic Nintendo characters around. Just plain amazingly fun, it also has got to be one of the best Multiplayer games that i can remember...

so, if you have never played an N64, you cant appreciate its greatness, but it was by far the best system.

Luckily on PPT, people are nice enough not to flame, but elsewhere, using that phrase for an opinion question would probably get you laughed at, especially when you degrade others' personal opinions by calling them "fanboys" in the process.

Well since I'm posting, I might as well contribute to the thread.

It's difficult to pick which console was the best ever, but I'm going to have to say the old school consoles just because games today are just too easy.

NES - It didn't start it all, but it was one of the first home consoles ever sent home to Americans. Appearing in 1985, the NES was quickly found in the living room of most Americans. Though the NES had simplistic graphic, it was a big stepping stone in the production of games even today. The NES had one of, if not the biggest library of games ever, even today. People that played games like Battletoads and Ghost & Goblins know how difficult NES games are compared to this generation of games. The NES also begun the the foundation of the character known as Mario.

SEGA Genesis - A lot of people cringe when they hear SEGA , realizing the many failures that it encountered up to recently. While SEGA has had many failures, too many people overlook the huge success that was the SEGA Genesis. Released int he US in 1989, the Genesis brought beautiful graphics and awesome gameplay in comparison to the NES. When people realized this, the Genesis almost became an instant success. The only thing that kept it down was the price tag. Sega was home to a few very memorable games such as the Sonic the Hedgehog series and had very very large library of great, more obscure games. While the games weren't huge like Chrono Trigger or Super Mario World, there were enough of the less popular games (still great games BTW) to get me to prefer it over the SNES. And while there was a 2 year gap between the two (that is release time, not production), the Genesis still has graphics that are just about on par with the SNES.

SNES - What isn't there to say about the SNES? Released 2 years after the SEGA Genesis in 1991 (I believe), the SNES became the able rival of the SEGA Genesis. The SNES is known to house some of the best games ever. The only problem I have with the SNES (IMO), is that there wasn't enough game variety for my tastes. But all in all, this system was a gaming monster, and one of the best out there.

So in my opinion:

Favorite Console Ever: NES and SEGA Genesis (tie)
and close behind - SNES
