My favorite author goes by the name Dandi Daley Mackall. She is really, really cool. Her work is amazing, and shes a Christian! She often writes little bits about God here and there. (while adding cool Bible verses!)

My favorite books are Horsefeathers and Winnie the Horse Gentler. Both by Dandi.

I would love to meet her one day.

EDIT: Good goodness,I answered TWICE! Sorry. If a mod can delete my post on the first page..that'd be helpful. Thanks.

Agatha Christie is my favourite author. I love her books. I love Hercule Poirot. Maple is not so far behind.

Anyways...
Agatha Christie
Julia Alvarez
Tolkien
J.K Rowling
Lois Duncan (I read practically all her books in 7th grade.)

As for books
Of Mice and Men-John Steinbeck
Animal Farm-George Orwell (Lovely satire :P )
Holes-Louis Sachar
Westing Game-Don't remember (Sure the last two are childish, who cares?)
Taming of the Shrew and A Midsummer Night's Dream-Shakespear

Tamora Pierce for her quartets, I've yet to read them all though.

Hehe probably three of my favoriet writers, I'm on the 4th book of the Wheel of Time series, and I'm about to finish it! Ive read all the quartets, well the ones my school had, it took me about half the year I think, maybe a little less O_O

OO! And I almost forgot Orson Scott Card with the Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow. I personally think both books were great!

You really would enjoy any and all books by Gene Shepherd! Try and find a copy of 'In God We Trust All Others Pay Cash'. If you thought the movie 'The Christmas Story' was funny, it was based on his works and he narrated it! Check out his stuff.

Ray Bradbury is one of my favorite authors. Check out his short stories.

Garth Nix
JK Rowling
Bruce Coville

I don't have any particular books or authors I despise, though.

I really liked the book, 'Bottle Caps'. It's about the life of a drug-addicted boy and his relationship with his family. It's probably one of the few books I've read page to page, without missing a single word and after finishing, wanting to read it again.

The Angel's Command, I believe they're called.

Igg wrote:I know people like Phillip Pullman for His Dark Materials, but have you ever read any of his other, earlier work?

I don't mean the fiction for young children, like The Firework Maker's Daughter.

I own two good books by him called The Broken Bridge and The Butterfly Tattoo. The Butterfly Tattoo is especially good ^_^

I've read most (or all) of his works. The Sally Lockhart are my favorite - a strong independant heroine, solving the mysteries around her life, set in the Victorian Era - what's not to like? :P

Yeah, Philip Pullman is one of my favorite author.

JKR is another, of course.

I like Tamora Pierce's Tortall series, but not the Circle of Magic ones.

I loved Ender's Game, but personally, I do NOT like Orson Scott Card.

My new favorite author is Garth Nix! I read the Abhorsen Trilogy and just last night, Shade's Children. Enjoyed them immensely.

Er, I should stop rambling/gushing now.
