The Academy Awards Prediction and Opinions Thread

The movies nominated for best picture are Juno, Atonement, There Will Be Blood, Michael Clayton, and No Country for Old Men. I haven't seen any of them, but it looks like it will be either NCfOM or TWBB.

I'd like to see Johnny Depp win best actor for Sweeney Todd. I was hoping Persepolis wouldn't get nominated for Best Animated Picture because I think Ratatouille should win, but Persepolis seems like something the Academy Voters would like.

What are your predictions? (for the sake of the thread, assume that the show will go on despite the writer's strike)

Here are the nominations:

Hmm, I'm pretty confident that 'Ratatouille' will win Best Animated Feature Film (though, previous gossip amongst friends thought it would have been nominated for Best Motion Picture or something).

I'm surprised that there are 3 'Enchanted' songs nominated, so I'm going to put my money in on that too.

As for others, I haven't seen most of them.

Edit: I think 'Transformers' has a pretty good chance in sound editing/mixing. The Best Visual Effects is a huge toss up between 'The Golden Compass', 'PotC3', and 'Transformers'. IMO, GC had a little too much CGI, while PotC3 and Transformers were okay.

I heard that too! I was really pretty shocked, considering its just an animated movie.
Well, its no ordinary animated movie.

Ratatouille without a doubt. There hasn't been any other big winner out there.

I'd be willing to lay money on No Country for Old Men winning Best Picture.

Persepolis seems like Oscarbait, but Ratatouille is way too beloved to lose.

I could see Ellen Page taking the Best Actress award for Juno, but it's a long shot.
