My school organised a graduation ball on 20th June to mark the end of our exams but I need desperate help because I CAN'T DANCE! Also, I have uncomfortable feelings of holding a girl's hands while dancing because I don't have plans to get myself a GF yet. The only thing I like about this is that I am going to wear a nice suit. :)

Does anyone know of any tutorials that can help me master the basics of ballroom dances? Help is REALLY appreciated.

Youtube. Seriously. There are some ace tutorials there. Apart from finding someone who can dance and getting them to give you lessons, I don't know any other way. :/

I don't exist. omo

lol Helena said, youtube offers just about everything.

Otherwise you might be able to find a 1night ballroom dancing class near you. I took dance most of my life, ballroom and swing dancing included. Though I've been to countless dances, I've never had to use my ballroom dancing. Its way too formal these days.

Most people just hug and rock back and forth.

Don't worry, dancing with a girl does not mean you are interested in her to be your girlfriend. I've danced with quite a few of my guys friends, with my boyfriend's blessing (slow/ballroom dancing people, hehe). It's a social thing. :)

In my book, though, guys get bonus points if they actually know how to dance.

*gets negative bonus points*
Some of my girl friends tried to make me dance with them at our school's winter dance, and eventually I did, but I failed horribly.

lol when I used to work mixers at the YMCA our job was to keep dancing teenagers from becoming a little too..."friendly"...so we'd break apart some couples and tell them to leave room for Jesus. He demands atleast 5inches.

In the dances I go to, it's six inches. =P I went to a Halloween dance once, and one of my friends came dressed as a faerie. She would run into between two people dancing and yell, "SIX INCHES!" and measure their distance apart with her wand. XD

Anyways, if you want to be fancier than the rocking back and forth, I guess you could try going in a square-circle (don't know how else to explain it. XD) For the person who is leading, it's something like this: Right step, right foot; Back step, right foot; left step, left foot; Forward step, left foot. Basically, just a square. And with one of the steps, you make your step a little wider than the rest so you end up going in a circle. ^_^

Also, make sure you let the girls spin! I love it when boys do that. It's much better than the plain old rocking back and forth, haha.
