Actually, it is. Although, modern science may say I'm wrong (I'm right). Picture the radition particles as germs. Then picture them attacking and sticking to your food. Slowly, the thermal energy will turn your foods green. There is no danger, however despite the large amounts of radition; all you will get is a sudden urge to write rhyming stories about green eggs and ham.

In reality, no I wouldn't think it would be a problem. It really depends on the food.

whats most unhealthy is the amount of grease and fat content found in microwaved foods. As as college student, I use the microwave alot and I found that those foods I was cooking with it ended up being alot less healthy than baked foods (like baked chicken).

I recomend, if you want to use the microwave, buy healthier foods or products that are "diet". not all of them taste as bad as they sound.

Apparently it zaps nutients and stuff.. and other stuff.. I haven't done much research, but honestly, I avoid it as much as I can. Which isn't too hard, except for like cooking potatoes..

Yes and no.

Yes, microwaved foods are unhealthy, they contain less "healthy substances" than other food, less anti-oxidants and more fat. However, if you are worried that microwaved food is unhealthy because they were cooked in a microwave, then no, they are not bad for your health. Microwaves to do not leak out radiation. Eating microwaved food is not negative when you supplement your diet with other healthy food.

You should look in to some simple recipes online to get yourself started. You don't want to have a quadruple bypass surgery at age 25 because all you eat is Hungry Jack microwave dinners.

Cooking isn't as complicated or scary as it seems. I'm sure there are plenty of sites out there with easy steps to making simple, tasty meals that won't clog your arteries.

Yes. Cooking can be fun, and isn't that hard ... especially with the bottled sauces and things you can buy these days. Asian stir-fry sauces, indian curry sauces, pasta sauces - I think they're probably higher in preservatives and salt and sugar than the "real thing", but they don't seem toooo bad.

Buy spaghetti, mince and a bottle of pasta sauce... boil the pasta, fry the mince, chuck in the pasta sauce... and there's an easy meal just there :) (might be good to chuck in a carrot or two for extra vegie goodness)

According to my high school chemistry teacher, microwaves work like this: the waves emitted are at just the right frequency to make water molecules vibrate, causing friction. The friction causes heat, and the heat(as you may already have guessed) cooks the food.
So no, microwaved food is not inherently unhealthy. However, food that comes already-prepared and just needs to be microwaved is generally not as healthy as food you cook yourself. How can it be? It has to be prepared in advance and stuffed with preservatives to survive long-distance shipping, and it's probably not made from top-quality ingredients to begin with.

the only risk i've ever heard of with microwaved food is that if you cook your food in some plastics the chemicals in the plastic can leak out into the food. i dont know if thats true or a myth or anything though.

it's really not hard to cook meals yourself (although disregard anything said by anyone who says that boiling an egg is easy, as it is NOT!!!). it's even possible to cook food in the microwave that's not preprocessed (i only had a microwave for all of last semester, so in the holidays i only had my microwave to cook with). for example, Pasta can be done in the microwave really easily (and actually quicker than if you use a pan of water).

also, if you want to branch out and learn some recipes, i'm sure we here at ppt could come up with some step by step, fail proof instructions to get you started! cooking really isn't that scary - when you've done a bit of it you'll realise how easy it is to do and to modify it to your tastes.

I love microwaves. Great for cooking vegetables. I don't really eat microwave meals as such though, I just use it to cook food...
