Hi, my account was just frozen for supposedly using a bot to cheat on the NeoPets site. I suspect it is because I have spent the last week, hours each day, doing restocks in the official NeoPets Shops. Subsequently, their bot which autofreezes accounts (right?) has suspected me of cheating.

Has the above happened to anyone else before? And is there any hope of me getting my account back?

I've been playing for 4 years; it was a well-developed account, and I would be mental to have used a stupid bot just to get my account frozen.

Thanks to anyone who answers :P

Your chances of getting your account back are generally slim, but it might help if you first send an email to support (use the contact form), and then when someone autoreplies, email them directly. Calmly explain what happened, what you think happened, and why you would never cheat.

If that fails, send an actual stamped letter to Neopets. That generally has the best results, but you should follow the normal channels first.

And this has happened to lots of folks before. There was a mod here a while back named V3nom who got frozen every other day it seemed, because he was such a good restocker.

I tried emailing via their mailform, but the link is broken :-\, so I've emailed mailto:support@neopets.com and mailto:frozen@neopets.com directly.

This isn't the first time this account has been frozen. It was frozen around three years ago for supposedly using an autobuyer in the main shops, and after explaining the situation, it took around a month for the account to be returned.

How long is it likely to take before I 'could' get my account back. I'm expecting at least 1-2 months - good estimate?

I made over 1.2 million NP in the last five days from restocking, so I suppose it would be right to suppose they suspect me of cheating with a program.

We had one of TNT's artists on the forums several weeks ago, and she stated that there were no "freeze-bots". However, people have gotten a message before; "We don't know why you have been frozen. Please contact us for more information." Certainly sounds like an auto-freezer to me. Personally, I've never been frozen, but I've seen plenty of friends frozen for exactly the same reason as you, Richard. Seldom have they gotten their accounts back, but I wish you the best of luck. There has been a rash of auto-freezings as of late, it seems the scammers who are actually guilty of auto-buying have been getting past the "Kauvara Code" implemented months ago. So if you have a fast connection speed, and are adept at restocking from the shops, you risk the danger of having your account frozen.

I agree with Shapu, just continue to try and contact them. If I were you, I'd give them 1-2 months, and if I hadn't heard from them, I'd snail mail them, and send another "frozen" email. Good luck!

Yes, I'm 'blessed' (I guess not in this case?) with a 1.5mbit connection, so I can usually get a lot of stuff during restocks.

It is laughable that there are so many people out there using autobuyers, getting away with it, and then there are others (like me, and the people you were saying about) getting frozen for doing little or nothing wrong. I know several people who have used autobuyers for the last few months and have not been frozen.

Anyway, I shall try emailing them, and snail-mail them in one month or two if I am unsuccessful. In all honesty, I am not optimistic. I got it back once for supposedly using an autobuyer, as I was able to give a legitimate excuse, but all I can say this time is that I'm a good restocker....

Thanks for helping, :)

If they freeze for making that much in 5 days, they better not find out about me then.. I made 800k just yesterday... lol :(

My biggest gain is 500k in a day. But I had a lot of stuff in my shop that I hadn't priced yet, so that's part of it.

Heh, my biggest gain was about 750k; 14 hours straight stocking. It was 3.5 years ago though.

Haven't received a reply whatsoever yet. How long do they usually take to reply?

I'm back over a million NP in my secondary main account (or my main temporarily), yey!

What did you all think to that really 'odd' problem last weekend, when the shops restocked every minute??? I hated it, it depressed the price of magic cookies and medicinal soaps! :(

i suggested you start mailing them soon. I got my account back after a 2 pages essay. Write what happened and explain your situation. Hope that helps.

This is getting riduculous. Whilst there is nothing you can do in your case but just continue to be very persistent, I am getting sick fed up of all these autobuyer-frozen accounts, that I am going to e-mail Neopets about my views.

Personally, I wouldn't wait that long. The sooner the letter is in the mail the better.

I have had two family members frozen and unfrozen within a week of Neopet's receipt of a letter. I wrote the letter on behalf of my daughter and helped my husband write his letter. Here are a few tips that hopefully will help.

First, be sincere and humble. Even though you did nothing wrong, don't be smart-alecky or angry in your letter. You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. Realize that these staff members are overworked, underloved, and often the target of angry people. Ask them if they would please review the circumstances surrounding the freezing of your account.

Then, explain exactly what happened. The people reading your letter know that you were frozen for using an autobuyer, but don't know the circumstances. Give a synopis of what happened right before you were frozen--that because you have a very fast computer connection, you had been able to restock a lot and make X amount of nps in Y amount of days.

Then, like Shapu says, be sure to explain why you would never cheat. Point out the fact that you have had the account for X of years and have Y number of neopoints (and anything else valuable--painted pet, battledome items) and would never risk all of that to cheat. When my daughter and husband's accounts were frozen, we gave our credentials--our profession, our ages, our address, phone number, employer's name--anything that showed that we were real people in the world--people who were responsible and wouldn't cheat at a game. For my daughter, I listed her school and grade, the fact that she was a honor student and in the local ballet company--also to show that she was a responsible kid who would not cheat. And also to show that if we were willing to give such personal information, they could check us out if they wanted and that we had nothing to hide.

Also, point out that your account had been frozen once before for the very same reason and was then reinstated after you wrote them. That puts them on notice that this type of thing--through no fault of your own--has happened before to you.

And give a theory about why they think you might have cheated. You might say that because you have played for X number of years, you are really good at restocking and that you have a really good connection so you are able to restock better than a lot of other players. Suggest that the amount of nps you made might have set off an automated system of theirs. You might want to add that you have heard of others also being recently frozen for using an autobuyer and because of that, perhaps, there is a flaw in the system they use to catch autobuyers--that they had just revamped their system and possibly didn't work out all of the bugs. Then go on to say that you realize that their system isn't perfect and mistakes are made, but you didn't cheat, wouldn't cheat, and would really like your account back. My husband had been frozen for "cheating at flash games" last summer and used this argument rather successfully to get his account back.

The key to writing the letter is that you really only get one shot at it--so it has to be as good as it can--and you have to argue your case--like an innocent defendant in a jury trial. You didn't commit the crime and you have to somehow get that across to the staff member who reads your letter.

Best of luck to you and if I can be of any help, let me know, OK?

Yes, your very best bet is to Snail Mail TNT. I was just frozen today for "Using an Autobuyer" and am going to give like a week to wait for a reply and then I'm snail mailing them if I even still feel like playing neopets.

*Is fed up with the unfair freezings*
