Perhaps you have transcended reality? :) I have the same trouble with "patience" (been oft accused of having none) and hence feel like patience equates to 'waiting forever'. Sigh.

EDIT: Question about the graph you're viewing, AySz88: What does the percent represent? The other graph is a measure of page views proper.

Sigh indeed. But I don't think i've transcended reality. I have to pack my stuff and clean out my soon to be never trampled again condo.

Good riddance to poor wall color.

Pardon me, but that seems very metaphorical in light of the Neo revamp.

Have you thought about the consequences of your living abode revamp? When I enabled customization on my dorm room, I thought it was a bit overrated, even though it's one of those oft-requested things. ;) :P

P.S. Just looked at that Alexa graph out of curiosity? It looks to me that there's been even less activity on the site than last night. So where are all those people the Editorial says like all the changes?

Um - I'm not sure we're looking at the same graph. As far as I can tell, they haven't released data for April 28 yet, but there was an increase over the 25th-26th-27th period (probably mostly due to the weekly cycle). It would take several weeks to see any distinct impact. Are you getting intraday results from somewhere that I'm not seeing?

I'm looking at this graph by the way.

Hmm, different chart, different results. I'm looking at this one:

http://traffic.alexa.com/graph?f=555555&u=
http://www.neopets.com/&u=&u=&u=&u=&r=5 ... =300&w=500

and yes I did put a return in there so as to not stretch the board. But if you click on Overview for your link, I just read this:

Site Stats

* Traffic Rank for neopets.com: 164 (down 26)
* Speed: Slow (73% of sites are faster), Avg Load Time: 3.6 seconds

and if you look at this, you'll see that views are down there too, so I don't know what's going on with that other graph:

http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traff ... eopets.com

Sends Inrun something delicious, cinnamony and crunchy. That does sound good right about now!

I just went to the site and read the Editorial. My reaction? :x

So, since nothing said on the boards means anything  I went ahead and submitted via their "feedback" page. IMHO some of the pet revamps ARE extreme and I honestly do have problem navigating through the site with my own disabilities. Someone I see on the charter board had a friend who is blind and uses a reader check out the site. Guess what! His reader couldn't make any sense of it. So there's another group of people left out. I don't know that that would make ADA or ACLU very happy.

Well, I'm done and out for the night. Have a good one, ya'll, see you tomorrow!

Hm, I actually didn't notice that. How'd you get to the non-relative measure?

[edit] Wait, no, my mistake - the explanation I quoted below was for reach, not page views. I'm not sure what the percentage is out of, to be honest - I assumed it was absolute. But it wouldn't be unreasonable to think it would be a similar thing (i.e. percentage of all Internet page hits).

From this help page at Alexa:

Quote:
What is Reach?

Reach measures the number of users. Reach is typically expressed as the percentage of all Internet users who visit a given site. So, for example, if a site like yahoo.com has a reach of 28%, this means that of all global Internet users measured by Alexa, 28% of them visit yahoo.com. Alexa's one-week and three-month average reach are measures of daily reach, averaged over the specified time period. The three-month change is determined by comparing a site's current reach with its values from three months ago.

This is a graph of pageviews per million for the past week. I got it by changing the url on the original graph posted in this thread. Changing r=5y to r=7d makes it a week instead of 5 years.
I've been fiddling with the graphs on the Alexa website, but I couldn't figure out how to get pageviews per million on there.
If I had a better idea of how these, I could tell if this was normal weekly fluctuation, but from the looks of it there hasn't been any decline in pageviews since the redesign. People need time to look at it before they decide to stay or leave, so the real test will be the coming months's pageviews.

Edit: Nevermind. And I'd like to know what caused the huge spikes up and down over the years at Neopets. It's verrry interesting, especially the gradual decline.

Huge spikes = advent calender + plots

Also, the four-monthly peaks are the weekends, which I found quite interesting.

What about the down spikes? Can anyone remember anything particularly bad happening around those times? Or is that just "general" userability, with a lot of upspikes for stuff being introduced to the site?

Edit: Also noticed that http://www.ihateneopets.com redirects to Neopets, and that they own it. o.o;

My theory is more along the lines of the people who've been around for a few years and who are older are more likely to be critical, to call TNT on some of the stuff that's gone on (like 4/4/04, sdb, TP, bank glitches, CGers, etc.) and send in the reports. We are the pink poogle toy description:P We whine, whinge, complain and generally can be a royal pain -- but we get our point across even if nothing's done about a situation. I'm guessing they (new management) is going with the thought that newer people won't know directly about alot of the things we've dealt with, won't think (or care?) to send in reports, try to demand attention to problems ... if something comes up that they really don't like they'll just leave.

Wow, EC, I never thought of it that way. But that makes perfect sense. Of course, this could be their attempt at getting rid of those of us who are loud mouths (*points at self*).

Skynetmain wrote:
EC, the master of great reasoning, has made a good point with this is the part of the theory. This could be a reason for driving the older players away, but it should be the reason we stay. The older players act as the conscience for Neopets. By staying through an act that will change the face of Neopets itself, they can throw the layout change and revamps in the face of the people who caused them by remaining on the site acting as Neopets conscience. The ones who have stood by Neopets in the past are the ones needed to keep the site honest and force them to never lose sight of the past. Even if we do not agree with the changes (I happen to not mind the changes), we should power through them and prove to everyone on the Neopets staff that they cannot silence the wisdom and experience that the older players can use to keep the site honest and safe for all players.

Brilliant, Sky. What you said is just brilliant. That's exactly why I am staying. It is going to take quite a lot to get my big mouth to leave. :P

I am loving these graphs that the various PPTers have found. I didn't even know they existed. Thanks so much for bringing them to our attention.

*hands Inrun a cookie* A gruel cookie. You do like gruel, don't you, Inrun? ;) OK, you can have a chocolate chip one too. :) And, can't forget about TDG. *tosses cookies TDG's way* We've got great mods on this site that definitely go above and beyond whenever necessary. ((hugs))

Ledi, I recognize that huge spike in the second half of '02 because it's when I joined. Yahoo mail users got a link in the 'weekly picks' newsletter that Yahoo used to send out. It's fascinating that that recommendation had such an enormous effect on traffic. Or was there some other outreach program going on then?

You can see that traffic dropped off by a bunch when neo incorporated the ad banners, but I have no clue why traffic dropped off by 20% beginning last January, even discounting the advent calendar spike in December. Anyone have a theory?

I still for the life of me cannot see what's wrong with the new layout. Neopets has always had a hideous, nonsensical site design. Old players like me may have been used to it, but it was still undeniably confusing and tacky. The new one is, well, it's a real website now. It has a sense of order. Every last player will get used to it. Some sites change their layout every single year!
