Go Dog God!

See that's the passion I'm talking about. If this was just another "pet site" why would we be complaining so much?

I've been to other sites, was hooked on Subeta for a few months but came back to neo because it's just neo and it was better than any of the others out there.

I've hung out on more forums than I care to think about, even met a boyfriend on one and yet I don't visit any more because it just isn't neo.

Edit

Yep, and stomped all over my dad's cancer lol. (No sign of the tumour so I'm allowed to joke now...not that I didn't during it anyway ;))

But you've only been a member of PPT for a few weeks. Perhaps that is the difference. Cause way back when, those of us who were PPT members were heard by the staffers, asked for our opinions. Staffers hung out here and wanted our feedback on new implementations. A few of us (*points at self*) were so vocal about things that we got our items back after the site glitched. Just to shut us up, I guess. We were heard and our opinions mattered. It was much different than the way the site is run now. Which is why you see so much sadness in many of the long-time PPT members. We used to matter. Now we don't. That's a hard thing to swallow.

Kay... just to be certain, no ones going to turn this into a "I've been a member forever and you havn't, you newbie you" type of thread are they? Cause then i'd have to get all modly on your tooshes and that wouldn't be nice for me.

Just thought i'd pop that in there...

ok. After reading TDG, I can see where y'all are coming from.

While I really love the new layout, I can understand y'all being upset. I've only been playing for a little over a year, so I never knew the "personal" Neopets that y'all used to know. If you're used to one thing, then, due to corporation take-over, they change completely, of course you'd be upset.

But I'd like to say one thing. This is a game. A hobby. I love it. It helps me relax when I'm stressed out of my head from the new world. The games are still there. The worlds are still there. The same features are there. Nothing has been removed. It has simply been reformatted. Perhaps TNT should have polled us before they spent so long and worked so hard to develop a new design for the site, but is a new layout really worth abandoning a hobby that you've had for so long? I don't know.

Like I said, I haven't been playing as long as some of you, so I can't understand where you're coming from. I'd hate to see y'all leave, though. There's nothing like having connections with people who have been playing for so long. :)

I've been around for 8 millenia on every site ever ;)

And I just have to reiterate I do not like that I am no longer stealth as I have an inbox full of people now going I know you're on, mail me back etc. Actually I wasn't on but never mind :p

Edit But that's just it, to so many people it isn't a hobby, it's much more than that. Maybe that isn't right and healthy but this isn't the place to judge that.

I don't know where I'm going with this...

First off anyone who is complaining that they must now scroll the page. That is because of the resolution you have chosen to use on your computer. Please be aware that you are using beyond the recommended at the 'normal' resolution. This is NOT neo's fault they are going with the majority of peoples screen resolution. I personally have been looking at a clump of white on the right of my screen for a long time at Neo. So please realize the scrolling is because of a choice YOU have made not because of neo's choice.

Second anyone who is disowning there pet because they are now ugly. Or canceling there paid account stop being silly! Neo even stated in the news that they are going to have some kind of choices they even admit they don't like the look of the new pets.... my theory on that is that they are going to offer both ways of looking at the pets. (like how when in beta you could set your pet to customization or not) So Geeze don't be silly!

Okay now on to other things I have noticed and i personally think should be changed or at least

- I think the old yellow nav 'scroll' needs to go on any page it is still left on.

- World map and any other type map should now fit into the entire viewable white area no reason for it not to. There should also be no text above maps obviously we can see it's a map

- Since everything is now divided into modules I would like to see the left sidebar customizable. If it is divided as other sites this should easily be an option.

- Also the old sidebars had pictures that continued on down the side.... I would like to see that returned seems stupid for it to be gray behind my left modules

- A 'homepage' should be made able too. Again everything is in modules this should be a decently simple process.

- Speaking of the modules I think the design would be much nicer if everything wasn't trapped in a dang box. We don't need the lines around the boxes

- modules should also be the same size left and right or full boxes that go the size of the page so if/when we can customize our pages it will be a bit easier.

Mostly however i see this makeover as good. Everyone who is thinking they did this because its big market and 'for the kids' look at any other site today YES they are the same. WHY? Because coding has changed people computers have changed they did this change to 'get with the times' not 'get with the kids'

Yes this layout will seem strange for awhile But basically everything is still there and realize that the new layout is technically in BETA so if you have a comment about how it looks let neo know. Personally I know Neostaffers read the boards here and on neo so I'm just putting my thoughts here. But overall remember times change would you seriously like it if nothing on neo ever changed? Would you really want the 'Original' pets? I doubt that so remember change happens don't reject everything because its new. Note what you do like about it and tell them also tell what you don't like. I'll admit I didn't read every page of these threads but i really am seeing a lot of people with the simple 'Eww i don't like it!' give it a chance browse the site and tell what you think to tnt or post it on the boards where it will be seen.

But anyhow for now those are my pennies

I kinda sorta like it

I think it could be a little better organized but all in all, I think it's actually a pretty nice change. I do agree that they should have warned us though, and maybe had an option for those of us who don't like the new layout, but I think it's a lot less bland then the old layout. Though that may have been a good thing in some of your minds. *shrug*

I don't think the staff members we are referring to actually have the same powers they did back in the day. They have to answer to "the man" and if they say "but our users don't like this or that.." Well they probably get told "They'll get used to it. We are willing to accept some collateral damage (that is people quitting) for the sake of our stock holder and our pocket book. Little do they realize that we are their lifeblood.

They could make so much more money and have a better site if they'd only listen to OUR suggestions. If they'd only put up some polls, ask us what we want and actually impliment it, it could be a great site again.

It was a great site in the beginning because users has more control over things. We could voice our opinion and people somewhere listened.
If we could submit our ideas and have them actually listen to US, if we could have a say in things on the site, then it would be so much better. But since they've taken this away from us, someone else will get the idea.

Another pet site out there will rise up. They will not make changes without having polls and letting users vote. Users will be able to design or at least submit ideas. They will start small but their artwork will get better and then they'll be able to afford better artists, and more servers. They will get bigger, and perhaps this new site will not go the way of neopets.
I might join another pet site if I can find a good one.

Nah, Inrun. Not at all. Just that if a person wasn't around here at that time they'd have no idea why we were all going through boxes of kleenexes right now. It was a cool time and you must admit we were lucky to have found this site. We got to see a side of Neopets that others didn't get to see. So maybe that's why this drastic change is hard for some of us right now. And, hey, no offense to anyone who thinks different than me. Honest. You can ask anyone here. I am try to be pretty open to everyone's opinions. This is a shock to alot of us--cause nothing this drastic has been done before. And you think after 4 plus years (7 for some people ) that you know a site pretty well. From the feedback I've seen on the boards, in my guild, from my friends, from this fansite and other Neo fansites, there's 1 happy to 9 that are unhappy. Watch, tomorrow morning, they'll say it was all a joke.

The difference is that you could still USE Neopets at a higher resolution. With the current design, people in lower resolutions are EXTREMELY disadvantaged because a good third of the page isn't visible at all times. And if Neopets wanted to make it for the current most-used res, they could've EASILY created one for a bigger resolution as well.

I've been aware of this for almost 6 hours now, maybe I can calm down.

Okay, the new layout I might have been able to deal with. Yes, clunky...yes, inefficient...and ugly...yet, I would have dealt without because I loved Neopets that much. At least, I used to.

On the subject of pets. I have shed some real-life tears. 7 years of work, down the toilet. At least they gave me the option of keeping my old Darigan Hissi, but my other 3 pets (pink wocky, white bruce, green kyrii) changed. It looks like two big, thick, flat caterpillars up and died on my wocky's face! I was going to paint my Kyrii island, but I'm not even sure it's worth investing in anymore. I wanted that "spunky" look for the personae, but yeah...gone.

On the subject of screen res. OMG. My res is already at 1024xwhatever. I'm *not* going smaller. Kinda value my eyesight, not to mention I don't think I can up it another notch.

By the way, I'm oh-so-happy that I spent DAYS tweaking a custom darigan background image for myself, so that it lined up with the topbar, only to have it removed. Lovely.

I know I sound cranky. It was a long day, and to come back to this is devastating. I'm feeling what TDG, morningstar, and many others are feeling.

Can we have a group hug? :(

One of the things I think I find most disappointing about the new layout is that the "specialness" of sidebars has been pretty much nullified. I now get some sky sparkles up the top, and if I go all the way down to the bottom a sticky-out-picture of one of the constellations. Other than that, there's no real customisation which the sidebars used to allow.

I...am not thrilled with this change. Not at all. Neopets has gotten too corporate, and this new layout just emphasizes that fact. It doesn't feel like a 'friendly' site anymore to me.

Edit: Yes! Group hug! :(

Give us oldies some respect! Let us 6+ yearers have some say in things!
