I haven't had any trouble transferring pets at all - I've borrowed a number of pets for avatars before, as well as transferring my own pets when I changed accounts. All it took was for someone to pound it, and I'd sit there refreshing the QAL (quick adoption link), or if I did it myself, to pound in IE, and quickly Alt + Tab to Firefox and start refreshing.

Of course, I'm not saying that it's a bad idea, I do like the idea of it, but it is possible to transfer a pet safely by yourself without anything like this, as long as you know what you're doing :)

I've never had a problem transferring pets to and from a side that I own, but the few times I've tried to coordinate an adoption with another person, I'd say 3 out of 5 times the person I'm giving the pet to DOESN'T get the pet. :( They claimed they use(d) the quick adopt link, and I even tried coordinating it via AIM to ensure we were both on at the same time, but nevertheless, pets still got grabbed.

I never want to transfer a pet again, to be honest. I just don't trust the current system enough, even if I have had success with it in the past. If TNT took your suggestion seriously, smudge, then I'd be singing a completely different tune.

I think that it is because people don't really understand what they have to do or how the system works.

I have had guild members adopt pets and even after 20 or so nmails explaining what had to be done, the pet went to someone else (another guild member, used as a 'catcher').

When we tried to work out what went wrong, all she said was - "I got confused".

Once she had a successful adoption, she regularly adopts through the QAL and has never failed since.

I never used Aim, MSN etc because to me it requires more effort.

We would pick a time, say within 15 minutes of both being online at the same time - I send the QAL and wait for the the adopter to send nmail back saying they have the right page and message.

Once that is done, I send one last message a 5 minutes to go and state that it will be the last nmail before adoption.

The adopter starts refreshing the page about 15 seconds before the official release - as soon as the pet is released - the pet automatically gets picked up on the adopter's refreshing.

It has never failed me and only had the 1 instance of a failed (but re-caught) release. :)

I usually use AIM for my adoptions. Basically, the person abandoning makes sure I have the link and enough NPs out, and that there's no problems (such as the 4 month limit).

Then they'll just be like.. "GO! START REFRESHING!", and I'll start refreshing until she abandons and I catch it.

Works for me ^.^

I have both successfully received and transferred using the method that Alex mentioned. It works best if the person is familiar with the "system."

I like the idea, but unfortunately it will never happen. It has been stated in past Editorials that they won't do anything that might facilitate selling pets, which basically means they won't implement anything to make transferring a pet from one account to another any safer. It's been their policy from day one, and I think they're going to stand by it simply because that's the way it is.

My favorite method of transferring is via MSN or AIM. I have the person recieving the pet tell me they're starting to refresh on the Quick Adopt link now, then count down from 5 and release the pet. Then I'm sure they're refreshing before release.

No transfer method is foolproof, particularly against auto-adoptors, but this one if very effective if everyone knows what they're doing.

I personally don't like "timed" adoptions because I've found that occasionally for whatever reason my Neoclock doesn't match the other persons. (Luckily we realized it before the transfer because they proposed releasing at a time which, on my clock, had already passed.)

I think this is a wonderful idea, but TNT will never do it. :(

From what I gather from editorials and such, TNT is much more concerned about people buying and selling neopets than someone loosing their beloved pet that they just wanted to transfer to another account, or give to a friend/adopter.

Myself, I couldn't give a frig if people want to sell their pets, I just want a safe way to transfer my pets between my own accounts, I think it's silly that I'm afraid to do that, even with the quick adopt link.

Exactly! Honest players are being denied a useful tool because of a few bad ones. Buying and selling of pets is going to happen anyway, what's the big deal?

I know TNT will never change their minds on this subject but it sure is nice to know that there are others who feel the same as I do. :D

I lost a pet (baby kau) two times in a row trying to transfer it to myself. Someone else snapped it up when I first put it in the pound, then once I convinced them to put it back in, someone else grabbed it, and it took 2-3 days before I could convince THAT person to put it back in, and I will NEVER, EVER, EVER transfer a pet again.

I knew what I was doing, I was as fast as I could possibly be, but it still didn't work out those first two times.

I'll just stick with the account I have now.

I've tried transfering pets twice, both times using MSN so the pet was there only a second, each time it was grabbed by someone else. As to this idea, let's face it, if TNT wanted people to be able to transfer pets then they could easily make them 'giveable' like other items. I don't think transfering pets fits in with their site philosophy (a pet is for life and not something you pass around just to gain an avatar) and they're not going to do anything to make it easy.

I like the idea. :)
I've always thought maybe they could have a way that when you abandon a pet, you could choose between a transfer or a regular adopt, but your idea works fine.

Sadly, I think IanB is right, though. :(

I rather like the idea myself.

And, yeah, it could promote selling, or even passing around of pets. But face it, even though it's frowned upon (and in some cases, against the rules) people still do it.

I myself know what it's like to lose a pet via a transfer. One of my very first pets was taking up room on a side account, and I figured I'd transfer her to my main for a while. Well, during that transfer my browser lagged. And to my horror I found she was adopted by someone else. Luckily I got her back (and even paid the person back for the Neopoints spent on the pet. Although she didn't realize it until she checked her shop to see all of the bottles of Sand she had put up for Guild donations were sold. My pet was rather high level so I figured it was the least I could do to help pay the girl back.)

I like the idea too. If we look at pets like pets in real life for a minute - would you rather drop your pet off at the pound, or give them to someone you know, who will take care of them? In real life you know that when you're driving your dog to your friend, someone's not going to grab the dog out of the car on the way. But in Neopets that happens all the time.

What a great idea! Although I haven't had a problem transferring pets recently, I remember when I was first starting neopets, my flame shoyru was snatched. (fortunately the person gave it back when i told him what happened)
For all those people who have slower connections, this will be a godsend.
