In a land where the people thrive on colour and nature, rainbows are the ultimate sign of good luck, good fortune and mysterious dreams.

In one particular kingdom...

---

This is a fantasy-adventure-comedic-serious-anything-except-horror-and-sci-fi role play you can join any time you like, provided you read everything. Although I do have some idea as to what I plan to do with this (think: quest), I will be delighted to see what you can come up with. This role play is very much yours as well and if a plot develops from our role playing, that would be very exciting.

Coherent posts are, of course, a must.

My Character Bio

Name:
Miran
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Appearance: Straight, light brown hair, grey-eyed and of average build. She tends to dress in dark blue, hooded robes with a brown belt around her waist. Small pouches hang from her belt, marking her profession.
Personality: An enthusiastic, adventurous girl who enjoys working and playing hard.
Occupation: Healer
Other: She used to live with her mother until she was fifteen. Her mother died and she has been working alone as a healer ever since.

---

When she looked back on it, Miran would have said it had all started with the notice. She was sure that the first signs of trouble had begun appearing long before then, but none of it had meant anything to her. She was too busy to notice anything out of the ordinary, so it came as a shock to her when they knocked on her door.

It was a fairly quiet mid-morning. Miran had just bid an old lady goodbye and was settling down to her books when someone rapped her door smartly. She glanced up in surprise; most of her customers would knock once and enter. Standing up, she moved to open the door and saw a troop of soldiers on her doorstep. The sun glinted off their armour. She almost did a double-take at the sight. The soldiers, too, seemed surprised to see such a young girl at the door.

After studying each other for a few seconds, Miran cleared her throat and said, 'May I help you?'

The head soldier recollected himself and straightened up. Glancing quickly at a sheet of parchment, he announced, 'In the name of the King, we are here to see Miran the Healer. Are you she?'

'Ye-es,' Miran replied haltingly. She clutched the door handle a little tighter.

'We are here to inform you that your practice will be requisitioned three days from now unless you pay the legal fee to open it.'

'Pardon me, but I paid the annual fee of fifty gold coins for opening a medical practice last week,' Miran said. 'I am entirely qualified as a healer, in both knowledge and legal fees. You have no right to take away --'

The soldier snorted impatiently. He seemed to have gone through this several times now. 'The annual fee has been raised to fifty gold coins a month. That is six hundred gold coins a year and must be paid for within the next three days.'

Miran gaped at them in horror. 'What? No! This is ridiculous -- crazy! There must be some kind of a mistake. Six hundred gold coins? That's insane! No one can afford that kind of money! You've got it wrong, it's -- ' A piece of paper was flung into her face. It was an official declaration from the king outlining the increase in fees for opening a medical practice, and the subsequent requisitioning of any practice that did not meet the requirements by a certain date -- three days from now. Miran snatched the paper, the words forming quickly on her lips. When she looked up again, the soldiers were already leaving.

'Wait! Wait!' she called, running a few steps after them. But they didn't wait. On second thoughts, Miran didn't know what she could have asked even if they had waited.

She cast her eyes in desparation at the sky, hoping against hope to see a rainbow. A miracle might still happen.

The sky remained grey. There hadn't been a rainbow in a long time.

Character Bios

Name: Briar Rakion

Age: 37

Gender: Male

Appearance: About 3 ft high, a characteristic of his race. A mask-like face, pure white with a blood colored gash where the mouth would be, shapr teeth easily seeable. Red-rimmed green eyes. Long blond hair in a braid comming out from his hat, and the hat looks like a grey-blue creature is eating his head. Complete with fake eyes. He has light armor, sholder pads, and wrist pads. Saff with backwards "G" curve on it. Also a mace-like septre attacked to his belt, this is very short and is used to channel fire into a sphere.

Personality: Gloomy and hardened.

Occupation: Black Mage; Mercenary

Other: From a war ravvenged land accross the ocean, not as powerful as he looks, thats basic armor in teh game he's from. Emphisis on LIGHT, its not very strong. Staff is meelee wepon and can make short, sharp ice pillars rise out of the ground, level one ice spell for him. Also staff is used in a extremely weak healing spell Level .7 compared to to other healers, notice the decimal point. Septer makes fire orbs, target seeking, level one fire spell for him. Really, not nearly as powerful as he sounds. Works well in front lines with his ice spell or slightly better as a ranger. Healing is crap, don't bother. Face changes with stronger armor.

History: was a mecinary in his country against a uprising of monsters and other various evils, so is an experienced adventurer. Went into retirment when he came here, having plenty of gold from the wars on Raikon (last name is his clan's name, making him one of the decendents of the orriginal Magus). Got bored, so he's a mercinary again.
-----------------------------------------------

Briar was in a bar. He was ALWAYS in a bar. His staff was leaned against the table and he was drinking Tequila Sewersides, an interesting drink to say the least. He finished his drink, rubed the lemon juice out of his eyes, threw some money on the table, grabbed his staff and left. He saw the guards go into the healers shop and come out, so he went to see what happened. He saw a young lady on the street, looking at the sky. "Everything alright?" He asked.

Name: Kenzirin (Kenzi)
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Appearance: Soft brown hair falls gently into her open face, partly covering open green eyes. She is short, but has a slightly lanky look about her. Her favorite clothing tends to be a tan cloth shirt and a slightly darker pants.
Personality: She is very much a daydreamer, and that probably adds to her kindness. As long as her daydreaming doesn't distract her, she can be a pretty hard worker and she gives it her hardest try to complete her jobs. However, she is a huge clutz and often has to spend more time cleaning up her messes than doing actual work.
Occupation: Stablehand
Other: She works for her parents, who are innkeepers. She has always admired Miran, although she has never really made the attempt to get to know her.

-------

Almost hesitantly, Kenzirin peeked out of the stable, leading a large bay outside to more light. She secured the horse to a pole, and began saddling him up. She didn't know the owner, but the horse was calm and well behaved, so she didn't have too much trouble with him.

A flash of light caught her attention, and she turned around, looking for the source. She was surprised to see a group of shoulders in front of Miran's house, their armour flashing brightly in the light.

She frowned, troubled. She couldn't tell what the conversation was, but she doubted whatever news the soldiers had -- and the paper they held -- was good. Certainly the healer was troubled by it.

Kenzirin's gaze followed the soldiers as the left the healer's place, and then she looked back at Miran. She was looking up at the sky, Kenzirin assumed, and looked up as well.

A grey sky was all that greeted her, nothing else. She closed her eyes, imagining sunshine and a blue sky, wishing for anything but that dreary grey.

Name:Esthemazaar Bertinkuur

Age:21

Gender:Male freemartin

Appearance:Close to three heads taller than the tallest person (two and one-half metres, or eight feet), Esthemazaar sticks out in more way than one. His albino skin and hair make him a stark white contrast to most of the people he is around. His flaming pink eyes pierce deep into any person that he wills to look at. His body is surprising in its strength, due to his amazing thinness. He could easily lift anything that the strongest men in the town could lift. He always wore an impeccable white suit. It never dirtied, since he never did anything in it to get dirty. Whenever he felt that the job would get him dirty, he wore a tight white robe of sorts.

Personality:Esthemazaar has never met a person that he liked. His hasn't spoken since he turned three, since he has never found a person worthy of speaking to. He has made the solemn oath that he will not break this feat until he has met someone that would be worth his breath. He is not being proud, he simply feels that he should not speak to someone to hear himself speak. He can do that well enough in his own mind.

Occupation:Unemployed, since he refuses to speak. Most of his sustenance comes through dole. The rest is conveniently borrowed.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*
Esthemazaar stood in the street in his white robe. He moved to the side of the street, hugging a building as soldiers approached. The soldiers ignored him for once. They usually tried to attack him. Apparently they for once had something important to do. They entered the building across the street from him and entered. They came out a few moments later. A woman ran out after them and screamed in anguish. This was something that Esthemazaar had seen much of late. He thought nothing of it. When the soldiers moved on to the hospital down the street, Esthemazaar was troubled, though. He was not used to the soldiers completely ignoring him. The woman cried out in anguish again and he watched her raise her eyes and look to the sky. That was something that he had not seen anyone do in years. It had been years since the last rain, since the last rainbow. People had since just stopped looking at the sky. They had stopped hoping. Esthemazaar had overheard the confrontation, even with it being inside the building. He had exceptional hearing.
He felt in one of his pockets, the pocket that he kept his coin purse in. He felt the purse, remembering how much he had stolen from the bank the next town over last week. He had five hundred gold coins on him. The purse bulged out heavily from his robe. It ruined his feng shui anyway. He crossed the street and stood in front of the woman. He held out the coin purse, saying nothing. He still did not know if she was worth speaking to yet. He was sure that she had seen him around. He proffered it, looking down at the short woman. He squatted down, painfully looking at her from eye level. He held the purse steady, waiting for her to take the money. While he waited, he looked up at the sky, and saw the same bleariness that he had seen for years now. He brought his gaze back down and looked into her steely grey eyes, trying to convince her of his integrity without words.
Name: Elizabeth
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Appearance: Long curly black hair to her waist. Green eyes, pale skin. She's wearing a white dress with gold trim, and white slippers. She has a green cloak over her dress because of the cold.
Personality: She's a bit shy, and can have a temper when angered. She loves all animals, and would put her own life before her loyal horse Charley.
Occupation: Animal Healer, Lord of Horses.
________________________
Elizabeth stood in her family's barn and stared at the empty stall in front of her. Soon it would be filled with a brand new baby horse. The barn had been in her family's possession for centuries, and the surround property. She gazed out at the black sky, and wondered where her horse charley had gone off to. She decided she would surprise him when he returned with a brand new sack of apples and decided to go into town to buy them. She left the barn and walked down the street to the city. On the way there she spotted Charley. He was out frolicking with the other horses, and she decided not to bother him. She had known Charley since she was a baby. They grew up together and shared many memori4es. Good and bad. It was tradition in her family for one to receive a horse when they are born and for them to grow a bond together. Her family had been known as the horse lords for centuries, and they had respect for it, as well as everyone else. She had just made it to town and walked into the store that sold apples. The man there knew her well and they stopped and chatted a bit. Then she left and walked outside into the street. The sky was dark and it looked like it was going to rain.
(No, Lillie, I'm not stealing your name! I just like it. =D )
Name: Lily
Age: recently turned 16
Gender: Female
Appearance: Average height, medium build (neither totally thin nor completely curvy- she's somewhere inbetween) extremely pale with bright, wavy red hair and hazel eyes. Her hair is usually held back in one long, unruly braid.
Personality: Generally friendly, but she has a tendency of being bluntly honest, which hasn't won her very many friends. Explosive temper. Actually quite shy, though most wouldn't think so when first introduced, as she's usually either loud and obnoxious or quiet and withdrawn.
Occupation: Student of the magical arts
Other: Extremely knowledgeble of magic and magical history, but not as excellent when it comes to the actual practice of it. Extraordinarily clumsy and can be a perfectionist at times. Comes from a family that is mixed blood- that is, her father has no magical blood whatsoever, whereas her mother comes from a long line of mages, sorcerers, witches, wizards, etc.
-----
Lily quietly hummed to herself as she walked to class, staring at the ground as she did so. Five minutes prior, she's suddenly been dismissed from class without any given reason, and this apparently meant everyone must start gossiping excitedly about why. She, on the other hand, was going straight to her room to study- everyone did have tests in elemental magic the next day, after all.
She turned suddenly, hearing someone near the windows suddenly started yelling to everyone within hearing range, screaming "Hey! Look at this!"
Trying to see what the commotion was about, Lily was abruptly stopped by the force of someone slamming into her. She fell to the ground, wincing as one of her ink pots fell from her bag, clearly and loudly shattering.
"I'm so sorry! I wasn't looking where I was going, I just heard someone yelling and-" she stopped herself, blushing violently as she resolutely stared at the ink-splattered ground, willing herself to stop making excuses.
"Sorry." she repeated as she grabbed a vial from her pocket and twisted it open, carefully tossing a handful of the contents onto the spilled ink. It immediately evaporated, and she began to carefully collect the chunks of thick glass.
[Wow, I have not RPed in soooo long. Please excuse me if I am terrible.]
Name: Leyna
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Appearance: Long, curly, bright blonde hair, sharp blue eyes, and a fair, freckled complexion. She has a smaller build, sometimes giving off the impression of weakness and vulnerability. She wears a long sleeved white cotton tunic that buttons up the front, with flat-bottomed dark brown leather boots that come to her calves.
Personality: Kind and gentle, but extremely timid and softspoken. She is something of a child at heart, having been fairly sheltered by her father for most of her life. She has difficulty being assertive and fending for herself, and doesn't have very much confidence in her abilities. This causes her to be rather dependent on other people, and sometimes even clingy.
Occupation: Student of the magical arts. She is aiming toward becoming a fire mage.
Other: During the holidays and weekends when she is not at school, she lives with her father, who was a fire mage when he was younger. She very much idolizes him and admires his wisdom, strength, and courage, and longs to be like him one day. Her mother disappeared mysteriously several years ago.
-----
Leyna clutched her books tightly to her chest and frowned as she hurried along, unsure of exactly where she was going. Only a few minutes ago, she and the entire rest of the school had been dismissed from class without any reason as to why. This worried her; abrupt dismissals never meant good news.
Actually, there had only been one other sudden dismissal as far back as Leyna could remember. That was four years ago, and had only been because some inexperienced alchemist-in-training had managed to create an inextinguishable fire that was spreading rapidly throughout the school. Somehow, though, Leyna had the feeling that this was more than just an accidental fire. There was a strange tension in the air. It was thick- almost tangible. Leyna didn't like it. It made her shiver.
She picked up the pace, and was trying to navigate her way through a mass of students who had stopped in the middle of the hall to look at something when someone just down the corridor began to yell. The shouting startled Leyna, and she jumped abruptly, dropping her books and at the same time slamming into someone else who was walking near her. Leyna heard the shattering of glass, and looked down in time to see dark ink splattering everywhere and her own books skidding across the polished wood floor. The person she had bumped into erupted into a steady flow of apologies, most of which Leyna couldn't hear for all of the commotion around them.
"It's okay," she murmured, stooping and beginning to pick up her books. She felt her face flushing- how ridiculous of her to have been able to be startled so easily.
Kenzirin sighed, and turned back to the horse. She made sure the cinch was tight, then led the horse to the front of the inn. She secured the bay once more, then absently patted the horse's head.
She glanced up, idly looking at the sign for the Inn. The Crowned Coral. She studied its bright colors, the sign bringing back many memories of her childhood years. In fact, the very first rainbow she had seen had been here...
-------
"Kenzi! My Kenzi! Hurry, come quickly!"
The young Kenzirin looked up from her chores, locating her mother's voice by the door. She stood up and brushed the dirt from her dress, and then ran to her mother's side. A few of the costumers yelled at her as she dashed by them, telling the young girl to calm down.
Her mother knelt by her, and covered Kenzirin's eyes. Kenzirin heard the Inn door open, and felt herself gently being dragged outside.
"Look, Kenzirin. Isn't it beatiful? That, my dear, is a rainbow," her mother's soft voice whispered into her ear. Her eyes were uncovered, and she gasped at the sight that greeted her eyes.
Laughing with joy, she jumped up and hugged her mother's neck. "Mother! I love rainbows!" she laughed into her mother's smiling face.
--------
Kenzirin laughed as the memory ended, looking up at the sky once more. As she did so, she saw a stranger near Miran, holding out a bag of some sort. She turned her focus once more, studying the pair.
"I wonder what's going on?" she whispered softly to herself.
[Whee! :D]
Someone was saying something next to her, but it didn't really register. As Miran brought her eyes back down to earth, she saw a man coming towards her. She forgot about the first voice; it was impossible not to focus on this person: he was a giant of a man. A faint memory of this same giant wandering around town came back to her momentarily, but it passed in the same instant. He had not seemed harmless at the time she first noticed him, and her mind had been on other things, so she had put it out of her thoughts.
Now she could not ignore this great being in front of her. He was holding out in one hand an enormous bag that she could surely only carry in both arms. She cast her eyes uncertainly upon the man as he slowly and painfully crouched down in front of her so that they were at eye level with one another. She was tense and uncertain. What did this man want with her?
He glanced upwards at the sky, much like she had a minute ago. A sudden, warm feeling rushed out and she let her guard down a little bit. She studied the bag more carefully. It was certainly not a medicinal pouch, and it didn't appear to have any oddly shaped items in it; it looked like her coin-bag, only far larger -- why, it was a money bag!
And he was holding it out to her.
Miran took a step back, shaking her head in fear. Where had he got so much money from? There was something impossible about it -- who was he?
But there must be hundreds of coins in there. There might even be six hundred. Of course, it might not be gold at all; it might just be silver or even bronze.
There was still no reason for him to give it to her, though.
Miran looked steadily back at the man. Behind him, she saw the innkeepers' daughter gazing at the two of them. A sudden gust of wind swung the wooden sign, The Crowned Coral, a bright piece of coral with a crown on top in the middle of the ocean floor. She had an idea.
'If you can wait,' she said softly to the stranger, 'I am going to the inn. If you will come with me...' Her voice trailed off and she hurried back indoors. She pulled her cloak off the back off the door, and swept it around her shoulders. The sound of crinkling paper reminded her of the dreaded notice. She still could not believe it. Gazing at it for a few seconds, she then stuffed it quickly into her pocket.
If the stranger was still there when she came out, she was going to find out who he was and why he was trying to give her an enormous bag full of what looked like money.
More importantly, though, she was going to find out what exactly was going on.
Everyone knew that the inn was the place for finding things out.
Name: Maggie Tobin
Age: 25
Gender: Female
Appearance: Maggie is one of those people who looks identical to her parents when you see a picture of her with either one of them. The wavy red hair, blue eyes, and fair skin of the Tobin bloodline are obvious. She has the medium height and strength of her father mixed with the voluptuous curves of her mother. Never one to wear make-up, Maggie's fashion fits with her job of a bar keep, rarely bothering to look presentable, or do up her hair past a pulled back braid. She's not ugly, just full of "potential."
Personality: Maggie is.... robust. Unlike some of the other ladies of the kingdom, she says what she's thinking and doesn't care who might be within earshot of her. So basicaly, she has the tendancy to act like a man. And why shouldn't she? She's been running around the bar since she could walk, so naturally she picked up the characteristics and traits she witnessed. Many people seem intimidated when first coming across this woman. Yet once they get past the exterior, Maggie turns out to be the most loyal friend and thoughtful person. Just don't get on her bad side.
Occupation: Bar maid/bar owner/smarty-pants
Other: Maggie grew up in the bar her father owned. When he died just a couple of years ago from pneumonia at his old age, she inherited the establishment, running it on her own with the occasional help from a local teenager to keep the place clean and tidy. Her mother died only a few months after her father. Regular patrons of the bar have knowns her since she was a child.
---------------------
Knocks at the door brought Maggie off her feet from the small kitchen area of her home to the entrance. Standing on the doorstep, raggy hat in hand, was Jimmy, the young boy who often tended around in the bar.
"Sorry to be botherin' you, Miss Tobin," he shuffled his feet around on the straw doormat, "I couldn't remember if you needed me to open the bar for you, or to just come in later this evening when it was busy."
"You've got a better memory than me," it was well in the afternoon, and Maggie was still groggy and moving slow, "I've a few errands to run before I get there. I would appreciate it if you could tend to the place for a few hours."
"Of course, Miss Tobin," Jimmy turnred to head off to the bar.
"Maggie!" she shouted after him. Formalities always bothered her. Cleaning up after her breakfast/lunch, she finished getting herself ready for her day, and was out the door and headed for the more populated area of the kingdom. By errands, she meant time off. Maggie spent a good deal of her time at the bar. It wasn't that she didn't like it, she loved it there.
"Another grey, dull day," she just liked to have time to herself outside somewhere else. The only good friends she had where her customers, which were of course mostly men. And those were the same men who saw her as their own daughter, feeding them more drinks and helping their intoxicated selves out the door when it was time to close.
Needless to say, it wasn't much of an exciting social life.
Briar signed. He was used to being overlooked, but it was still quite annoying. He knew that the giant freemartin would be quite more of a specticale to see anyway, so he put it at the back of his head. "Eh, Freemartin, where'd you get the money?" He knew this was a pointless question, he'd seen this one before when he was traveling. He never talked. Not a soul knew his name because of that. Ah well. He thought he'd check into the inn for a night and see what was up with the guards instead of heading out like he had planned.
He entered the cozy inn and went up to the counter. "Innkeep! I need a room for one night."
Esthemazaar looked at the woman as she sized him up. He watched her recoil, but could not understand why. Nonetheless, he stood when she went back into her building, he stood, relieved to be able to extend his legs once more. He kept the bag outstretched in one hand, and waited for her to come out. While he stood there waiting, he looked up at the sky. He heard a small voice say something, but it was too quiet for him to understand what was being said. He internally shrugged and dropped the matter.
[I hate ooc, but I have to address a few things about my character. 1. My character is attractive, but Albino. No grotesqueness here. 2. Scars? What scars? 3. Briar could not have known about Esthemazaar's Freemartinism. Look it up. You can't tell it by looking at a person, and it's insulting to refer to them by that. Once again, I just need you all to see my character as what it really is. Thanks.]
[Apologies on both fronts. Ryan, I believe I read the wrong bio when writing the latter half of the post. My previous post has been duly edited.]
'Ah, you're here,' Miran said when she came back out. She gave a very small smile to the tall man. 'Come.' She walked quickly towards The Crowned Coral, glancing back over her shoulder once or twice to see if the stranger was keeping up with her.
At the doorstep, she paused to speak to the innkeepers' daughter who had been watching them steadily. 'Ah, Kenzi. May the sun shine on you,' she greeted. 'I'm just popping in to have a meal with, ah, a friend. You look quite well. How are your parents?' The greeting and question were necessary; Kenzi and her parents were her patients after all.
Even if they weren't going to be her patients for much longer.
She hoped the stranger would get a table for them while she finished with the cordialities.
Esthemazaar followed as the woman went across to the inn. He hunched over and squatted down to get inside the small door. He went across the room and sat down at one of the empty tables. He sat down in one of the chairs. Doing this was harder than it sounds. He had to step over the chair and turn to face the table. He widened his foot base and bent his knees. He slowly sank until he was sitting. His knees were above the rim of the table. He looked around at the inn's inside. It was dark, and there were far too many people for his liking. He shut everyone out and stared at the edge of the table, not moving a muscle.
Location: High-security asylum cell.
Name: Risa
Age: 15
Gender: Female
Appearance: Very attactive - tall and slender, with soft, pale honey-brown skin. Her elegant locks of curly dark brown hair are long and silky. Her eyes, a startlingly bright blue especially prominent against the rest of her colouring, are set in perfect almonds under slender, curved brows. When she smiles, it is usually a wicked, mischievous grin, and gives off the impression of an almost devilish beauty.
Personality: She is proud of her looks and may act arrogant and bratty at times. However, she is a fun-loving, good-natured girl and doesn't mean to harm anybody, though she unintentionally has done on countless occasions. She is not stupid - in fact, considering her academic results, she is quite intelligent - but tends to be careless and inconsiderate. She prefers to be alone and considers herself to be a very independent person (and indeed she is,) though she has yet to learn the true meaning of concepts such as "friendship" and "trust."
Occupation: Student
Other: Comes from a family of wealthy parents who are usually too busy to ever care about her.
[Sorry, very busy so I only have time to write the bio ^^; Will start RPing tomorrow, perhaps.]
