Actually the luck bit on neo tends to have more to do with sticktoitiveness than actual luck, because the 'luck' comes with more activity.

Tips to 'luck':
Play javascript games to dramatically increase your RE's (neggsweeper, dice a roo, neoquest, double or nothing, etc.)

With stocks, just max out the amount you can buy everday, never buy shares over 16np, and over time what has gone down goes up (you can't go wrong if you have patience that endures for 6+ months)

Enter contests found on the Pet Central page. Clever ideas + time and effort will get you a win eventually, and many of the contests offer nice prizes.

Make friends, be generous and helpful to them and most will return the kindness in many ways.

Keep a log of things you win/experience, because you are definitely getting more than you think. I keep a neopets blog just for this purpose (qbureau.wordpress.com). Even now I will swear to my friends I rarely get any good changes from the lab ray, but a quick review of my blog points out my perception is way off. Actually, if you want to see how Adee chases me with her dumb random events, type 'adee' into my searchbar and view my Adee-induced insanity :P

Revaluate your goals on neopets; do you even have any. Aimlessness always leads to dissatisfaction. If luck is your focus, then you're in the same unlucky boat the rest of us are in and only playing more can increase your so called luck. Luck is a gamble, and therefore only fun if you're coming out ahead. There are tons more things to do on neo that will gain you a lot more than sitting around waiting for something exciting to pop up out of nowhere.

Actually, think of the 'luck' as a percentage of the time you give to neopets. If you play a couple flash games and chat on the boards for a bit, you will be 'unlucky'. If you go for gold in neoquest, work on projects like lookup and petpet pages, help your friends and random people, try and learn something new like how to restock, etc., then you will become shockingly 'lucky'.

Q makes a great point on all of those things. They way you play neopets will depend on how lucky you are.

With stocks, it's not luck but patience that gets you ahead in the end. You have to wait for many many months usually. Best profits I amde took over a year and a half. Never invest neopoints in stock that you are not willing to 'forget about' for quite awhile. Never sell at a loss. Never!

Most of my bank account is not luck anyways. The 30k a day challenge cards thing is effective, if boring.

well, I've been playing the games that require refreshing for a couple hours now (not straight...off and on...I'm not crazy) and I still haven't had a single RE. My bad luck continues. Yeah...I'm not disillusioned about the stocks. I know it's not a get-rich-quick-overnight thing, so I'm just patiently awaiting them to sky rocket!!!!! :P

EDIT: just as I posted that I got an RE...I found 100 np on the floor. Not amazing, but good nonetheless.

EDIT AGAIN: and now I got a fire faerie quest! I don't get it! Nothing all day, then I post and it happens...hmmm...

I have to second the suggestion about http://www.neodaq.com. Follow their advice and it is very easy to make millions over time.

When I used to restock chocolates in 2001, it was easy to make 100k a day with a bit of time invested.

I got the packrat avatar recently and subsequently liquidated most of my inventory I've collected over the past 65 months.

As far as stocks go, they've been pretty crappy lately. Buy as close to 15 as you can and sell at 60 or over. I haven't sold a share of stock in about a month, but have bought everyday in that time, and am well diversified because of it.

You can follow a guide on making 15k a day and buy stocks with it. Over time, you'll find you have enough cash on hand to buy stocks indefinitely. Unless you like to shop. :D

My luck is pretty crappy too. Most of the avatars based on luck I don't have. I don't win pricey things in random events and I can't beat others in restocks to get unbuyables. Do the best with what you can control (like making money).

The thing to be careful of in the stock market is that you have to be checking it on a regular basis. Some of these stocks take almost a year to peak, and, when they do, some are only up there for a day (sometimes breaking 60 only lasts for 30 minutes) before falling back. You don't want to miss the boat, especially with the slower performing stocks. I'm surprised there's no forum here dedicated to alerting people to peaking stocks.

Also, when you don't have a lot of NP's at all and can only afford to invest in a few thousand shares, it might be better not to wait for 60 or higher to sell. It might be better to set lower expectations like 45 or even lower. The idea would be to keep flipping stocks for profits, even if they aren't 200% or 300% profits, so that you can afford to buy even more stocks. Little bounces up and down are happening all the time. It's those big climbs that are rare, and, until you get one of those big climbs, your NP's are just sitting there and not growing. Just make sure you are only buying at the low end (like price 15 or 16) and selling at a profit. Once you have lots of NP's and can buy the limit every day without end, it becomes more profitable to wait until 60 and up.

Also, once you are loaded with NP's, you don't really have to stick so much to that rule of buying only between 15 and 16. You know you're going to hold until 60 or at least 45, so, as long as you're buying for less than you're selling and the return is much better than the bank interest, you're still making profits. My buy range is between 15 and 20, though I have bought at even higher. The extra NP's I have to pay for a 20 stock versus a 15 (5,000NP) is not a very big deal to me anymore, especially when it looks like that stock is on the move. I would gladly pay more money for a stock that looks like it's starting its climb up over more of a 15 stock that doesn't look to be going anywhere anytime soon (I can always buy that some other day).

Well, you can try to get a lot of screen shots by playing Pyramids, Dice-A-Roo, and Gormball.

I heard the more screenshots you obtain, the more of a chance a random event will pop up.

Cheer up, I've been playing neopets for a little over 5 years...and I'm still not a millionaire. :(

I think you may mean that refreshing can help you get more REs?

Screenshots are when you take a picture of what is on the screen.

I would recommend Neggsweeper and Pyramids, as those are the games I get the most REs on. Most recently I've been getting those Petpet Laboratory pieces, including some pieces from other maps. I also occasionally find neopoints on the floor and even got a RE saying that Dr. Sloth is allowing me to use his image as an avatar, and an RE where Sloth gave me a Jetsam Transmogrification Potion. It takes time and patience, but in the end, it's worth it. My luck isn't the greatest, but it's decent enough to get me buy.

I would suspect there is some sort of luck modifier in Neopets, despite TNT's insisitance that the site is random.

1) My brother and I both play an obscene amount of time, and he gets three or four Faerie Quests a day - I have gone months without a faerie quest more than once.

2) When I don't play for several weeks and start again, my random events come about 1 in every 50 cliicks, as opposed to about 1 in 200 when I'm playing normally.

3) When I adopt a pet I seem to get better REs and more frequent REs than when I abandon a pet.

4) Before they took him offline and brought him back during the Mystery Island plot, the Island Mystic (and Fortune Cookies) used to match my luck for the day. Scratch card wins and Tomboloa prizes only came when he gave me a good fortune. When he gave me a bad fortune, I would get bug brothers and fireballs. The luck seemed to change at noon nst, instead of midnight when the fortune changed. When I had a run of good luck, I would have to play everything before 3 p.m. my time, or it would go away.

5) After a few weeks of playing Neopets, I interviewed one of the VPs for my college newspaper (This was four years ago, before they had a lot of positive media coverage) and my luck on the web site went up. The next Monday I started getting random free items, paintbrushes, scratchcard jackpots, etc. My luck has never even been close to that again.

6) Last April Fools, the "payment plan" for the sight differentiated between games, daily freebies, and such, and charged you a different rate for each type of page. I doubt they would have re-coded every page of the site to indicate a category for each page. While that isn't evidence of luck, it does suggest a possible mechanism.

7) Despite putting thousands of hours into Neopets in the last few years, I have rarely or never received certain random events - 3 visits from the Pant Devil ever, no Tooth Faerie avatar, no Edna Cackle avatar, no Snowbeast in the Battledome. I have left a book on my f5 button overnight and received codestones and icy neggs, but no snowbeast.

8 ) It could just be the Gods of Dice playing tricks with my mind, but I seem to get more Faerie Quests when my pets are delighted and bloated.

I think their might be something besides luck covering some random events (for instance, the Ghost Lupe always growls and heals me, and threatens everyone else I know) but I would be very surprised if there isn't some sort of Luck modifier. From an end user standpoint, it feels like it's there; and from an amateur game designer standpoint, I don't see how the site could function without it.

I had found that refreshing on the shop wiz used to give me more RE's than I knew what to do with. However, not all of them were good. I had 67K taken once by Skarl's minions. And all of my pets came down with some illness that cost 150K a potion--that I refused to pay. But now that I have premium, I don't get nearly the number of RE's that I used to.

Luck is such a funny word. Because right now, I feel luckier on the site than I ever had before. I used to be so stressed about earning neopoints and getting plushies for my gallery, that I wasn't having fun. I was driven to succeed and the amount of neopoints I had mattered so much to me. And it was making me crazy. My luck changed for the better when I found the people in my former guild. Many of whom became my friends. And who followed me to the guild I created (along with a few other friends that I met here on PPT--Andy, Caz, Peg--and met in other places). And, right now, at least for me, they are much more important than the neopoints I make. And what is really funny is that now that I am not so stressed about earning Neopoints, I have more than I ever imagined. Even though I am always giving alot of them away to my friends in the form of gifts and things. So, luck can take on a lot of different meanings.

I guess what I am trying to say is try not to get too stressed about the amount of neopoints you do or don't have. The game is supposed to be fun. And, yes, there are so many things out there that each of us would just love to have--and that we will probably never get--but when the game becomes a chore or a job, instead of fun, that's time to step back and take a check on why it has become that way.

I suppose I am unlucky too. I have never gotten a big RE prize (I think the best was a book worth 20k), for example, and faeries avoid me like Balthazar (not that I mind, I'd refuse them anyway). :P

One note about faerie quests, however: several people have told me that refreshing a few times a day at the quests hut in faerieland tends to get faeries reinterested in you. I have tried this and it seems to work, though it may be coincidence. Certainly the reverse is true - because I don't train my pets, I now refuse all faerie quests, and probably as a result, I never get any.

Sort of on a tangent, but related: don't ever get stressed out over Neopets! Seriously, if it starts frustrating you, LEAVE IT for a while. Do something amusing in "real life" or elsewhere online. When you come back to Neopets, it'll be the relaxing, diverting little game it should be. I know in my old account, about a year or so back, I got way too invested in the game - I wanted to have painted pets, rare items, more np, etc; I was one of those people in the FC who practically compete over this kind of stuff; and at some point Neopets wasn't fun anymore, so I quit.

I abandoned that account, that I worked so hard on, and its gallery and pets and so on. (This was only somewhat intentional, as I simply forgot the password after a few months. xD) In any case, I find that I care less about Neopets now, but am enjoying it more. And I have more in the bank now than I used to (mainly because I'm not madly saving for big goals and spending my np immediately).

So, uh, I guess those two rather excessive paragraphs were meant to say that maybe taking a break from Neopets will make you feel better about your luck/success in Neopia.

haha...wow...I'm not stressed over neopets. I was just wondering if I was alone. I found out I'm not. I already left for a while a couple years ago. I'm fine...I promise. Was just having a bad day when I originally posted. I'm having much better days now. hehe. Thanks all.
