Dear NAME REMOVED,
Congratulations! You have guessed correctly in the Lenny Conundrum game (round 171). You have won 306 NP!
Yours Sincerely,
The Neopets Team!
Ok, so I got the right answer according to TNT, but then I got confused, and Messs17 helped me out. So I've edited this with the correct math now.
Suppose you spent a total of 16480 Neopoints on four different codestones that you found on the Shop Wizard.
The Mau Codestone's cost was equal to the Tai-Kai Codestone plus half the cost of the Main Codestone.
The Tai-Kai Codestone's cost was the same as the Eo Codestone minus the cost of the Main Codestone.
The Eo Codestone cost as much as the Tai-Kai and the Main Codestones put together.
You paid three times as much for the Mau Codestone as you did for the Main codestone.
I used M for mau, T for Tai-Kai, E for Eo, and A for Main.
M + T+ E + A = 16480
M = T + (A/2)
T = E - A
E = T + A and A = E - T
3A = M
Putting the
last clue into the
first clue, you get 3A = T + A/2, or 6A = 2T + A, and so
5A = 2T.
M + T+ E + A = 16480
M + T + (T+A) + A = 16480 (because
E = T + A)
M + 2T + 2A = 16480 (simplifying)3A + 2T + 2A = 16480 (because
M = 3A)
5A + 2T = 16480 (simplifying)Then you can substitute either of those things for each other... in other words you can do
2T + 2T = 16480, or 5A + 5A = 16480
That means 4T = 16480 or 10A = 16480
I seem to remember going with the 10 A because it's easy --- A = 1648
Plugging that back in,
5 (1648) = 2T ---> 8240 = 2T ---> 4120 = T (you also could have gotten that by just dividing 16480 by 4, above)
Then if
3A = M, 3 (1648) = 4944
And since
E = T + A, E = 4120 + 1648 = 5768
And of course check your work:
4944 + 5768 + 1648 + 4120 = 16480
4944 = 4120 + (1648/2)
4120 = 5768 - 1648
5768 = 4120 + 1648
3x1648 = 4944
And just in case it was not clear, the answer is 5768, the number of NP you spent on E (the eo codestone)
