While charging collateral isn't illegal (althought running off with said item or collateral), this person is in violation of the rules.

Why? you may ask.

"+500 lending fee" is the answer.

You can not charge NP to lend something to someone. It's a tip under the ToS.

I saw someone in the Trading Post offering a Niten Hiroru Neodeck card for 6000 NP "+ 500 lenders fee". As this is illegal, I reported them to TNT. But I wonder... would it have been just as bad if I had paid the 6.5K and kept the card/resold it for the 9K it's currently going for?

We all know that it is wrong to charge someone for an item. But I think the bigger issue here is it would be far worse to accept a deal on those terms knowing you were not going to honour your side of it.

This person either doesn't know the real value of the card or is too trusting. To take advantage of this situation is much worse.

This person, although breaking a rule, was not hurting anyone - it is up to the person doing the trade to offer the NPs - he is more likely to get ripped off with such a cheap price.

I don't think reporting him was necessary.
