Auto-Adopters

I do have have a bit of knowledge about Auto-Programs and believe me, it's not that difficult to create a auto-adopter. And I believe that's what is adopting all these rare pets. The program work like this ( I think ). It refreshes in the pound and has some sort of a script ( or whatever ) where you can put a list of the pets you want to 'capture'. For example:

Darigan Draik
Grey Ixi
Maraquan Krawk

The persons who use the adopter don't know who was the person who had the pet before. And neopets still don't has anything in the pound that can stop the using of auto-adopters. I hope they fix this fast enought since I also had a pet for adoption and I don't want to lose it for the auto-adopter.

It's sad that persons still do this...

So what about pets getting stuck in the pound? I've dropped painted pets in several times and had them sit there for days, obviously not showing up to anybody. So is it just random which pets that happens to? If they could make a delay of even a few seconds for all pets, it seems like that would solve this...

I guess I'm just kind of biased because they have my friend's pet. It does strike me as kind of fishy that they don't really seem that active with their account though. =-/

Remember as well that it could just be a side account. I'm not saying this person is just a normal user but an account that doesn't look really active isn't proof that they are a pound sniper. I have side accounts with no shopand no game scores but with rather expensive pets on them. Due to me having had no time recently none of them have petpages yet either. Yet those accounts have pets that I paid a lot of money for or got lucky with the lab, I'm definitely not a pound surfer/sniper

I'm not too familiar with how the pound is set up but it doesn't seem to farfetched for someone to have come up with some progs that can target search for colour and/or species considering that the pound itself used to let you do that and tnt aren't very good at closing loopholes on their side - you only need to look at the duplicating fiasco and the recent cookie grabbing thing to see that. And of course then they'd only need look up the specific pets they were interested in. Meh, I wish neopets would take the site down for a few days and y'know actually write it properly. It's far too much of a patch job these days, and a patch job just isn't secure enough.

But as I said.. the pet is not trained and has lousy stats.. and it's not painted either. And besides, the said person dumped the pet back in less than 30 seconds back to the pound.. after removing the petpet. And the pet has a lousy name too. I purposely looked for some unpopular pets species with bad names so that chances of interception will be much lower.. but still.. it happened.. and I haven't figured out how and why! lol

I think the petpet is displayed in the pound along with the pet, so it's easy to see that the pet has an expensive petpet attached. I gather there are people who refresh at the pound looking for pets with petpets attached, adopt the pet, detach the petpet to sell later, then abandon the pet again. It sounds like you ran afoul of one of those.

Petpets do not show in the pound.. unless the pet is looked up in a search. And that takes time.. even if the adopter is behind a T3 line..

I've gotten that too.. gave a lab-only colour to my friend and he forgot to take nps out after checking the pet's price.. but luckily it was one of those times when the pet never showed up in the pound I guess.. else I think it would be sniped pretty quickly..

I guess the best way to solve all this would be to lie low and only tell the person you are transferring the pet to.. boards everywhere are full of lurkers and you never know when someone will set a auto-bot for that painted pet!

Well, I don't know everything, but were your pets painted with very rare colors? Like maraquan, darigan, plushie, faerie, pirate? or rare species? Draiks, Krawks? Because it's obvious that they only want the most rare pets. And for the auto-adopter to work it's necessary to be running the program in some computer, maybe when your pets were in the pound the program wasn't running anywhere.

If a krawk or draik is in a frozen account, does it get taken off the list? Right now there is like 9000 of draiks and 2000 something of krawks, but I think it is actually lower than that. Because I know a while back the first thing that anyone who was a hacker or something did was buy themselves a krawk or draik, and then they'd get frozen later. So are those counted in the list?

Frozen pets are not removed as they remain on the databases, ie you can still search for those pets. The numbers on the pet counts never go down and additionally they only count pets "born" as that species, so in the case of krawks and draiks only those from krawk petpets and draik eggs. Krawks and Draiks from any other methods like morphing potions or transmog potions aren't counted so really there are far far more than the 9000 draiks and 2000 krawks that the stats have it at. It's just that more people prefer the cheaper transmog potions, particularly when it comes to krawks

That one wasn't actually in there too long, because I posted something and he was adopted quickly, but I waited a couple hours before doing that.

How stupid. D: They probably don't even do anything with the pets, anyway. It would be impossible to feed them with like, 12 accounts. I can't believe how some people would stoop so low to make a program just to steal pets out of the pound. I would never attempt to send a Neopet to someone else through the pound, though, even without these auto-adopters. Too risky.

Oh sorry, I thought you were talking about the auto-adopters. But if that hapenned, it seems that there is some kind of 'hole' in the pound so that some pets don't appear in the regular pages. Well, I don't know if this anything to do with that but now when I try to search the pound, every 3 or 4 refreshes give me this message: unable to retrieve a list of the pets in the pound. ( or something like that, this is not copy + paste ).
