does anyone here enjoy this genre?

Pretty good, sometimes. I'm not the biggest fan, but there are some really good ska bands.

Skatelites, toots and the maytails, toasters, specials, planet smashers are some of my favorites.

then there's the ska/punk, which there are a few good bands.

popska is death though (except for aquabats).

Yes... Very much so

I like most genres, and ska is one of the ones I've enjoyed. I don't specifically go looking for it, or listening to it, but when I do come across it, I enjoy it.

Yeah, I like ska. It's fun and good to listen to. Although I must say, Korean ska has got to be the oddest thing I ever listened to. o_O

Ska? I think I've heard of it, can you clarify what genre's are mixed in to create it or is it an entirely new genre on its own?

Hard to explain really. It's a form of punk with a big band accompianment. Correct me if I'm wrong. The Ordinary Boys are ska if you want to listen to some.

The Specials, umm... Too Much Too Young - That's a good blast...and 'Ghost Town' is a really evocative track. Madness started out as a ska band too I think.

I used to listen to John Peel's show from time to time and always enjoyed the ska he used to play. Wouldn't mind hearing more if anyone has any recommendations?

Ska always makes me think of polka. Totally rockin' polka, but polka nontheless. But as someone said, big band + punk/rock is a pretty good definition as far as I can tell. My favorite ska song is probably Ska Saves. I'm not very familiar with the genre, but I can usually tell when ska is playing, simply because I can't help but get up and dance. Dance being the term I use for when I start making sporadic movements and attempt to stay with a beat. :p

I'm not really familiar with the genre, but I think it sounds alright. A lot of people have mentioned that Sublime is a Ska band, and so far they are the only Ska I've ever heard, and they're not bad.

Mustard Plug, Reel Big Fish, Aquabats, The Specials, just to name a few.

Done too much, much too young, you're married with a son, when you should be having fun with me!

a lot of people think so, but they're pretty wrong

ska started in the 50s, as a kind of fast jazz, reggae pulls much of its sound from ska.

That's trad(itional) ska.

the second wave ska started when musicians from jamaica and the caribbean(oh the spelling horror) went to england to play their form of ska, with the white english, this mix of race (and music) was called "two tone", you get the ska checkered symbol from the white and the black playing together in the ska band.

Third wave (the current wave) is more like punk/ska, or skacore(crappy), which started when focus shifted from the horns, to the guitar.

Ska is known for its happy sound and lyrics, and upbeat guitar.

hurrah, didn't copy and paste, I'm proud of myself.
