I love them. I decide to ignore the suckier songs on thier new album *cough*She's a Rebel*cough*Extrodinary Girl*cough*whatsername*cough* and concentrate on their old stuff.
Fave Album: Warning
Fave Song: Misery

My sister drives me mad though, she's all like "Ooo Green Day are like my favourite band ever!!!" and then "Teenage Kicks" came on the radio and she asked me who it was.

Didn't see that...
Kick her for that...

A couple of years ago. I was in a chatroom. Amongst myself in this chatroom were many 12 and 13 year olds. I mentioned Green Day and they were all like "Green Day? What? What's that?"
These same kids are now like "OMG! Green Day rocks!"
You know, the band had a career before American Idiot, and their old stuff is sooo much better.
Good Riddance of course is great. Acoustic guitar + violins + great lyrics = me crying. I love it.
When I Come Around is great. It's a great song, and Billie Joe's voice sounds great.
She is another personal favourite. It's sorta mellow, but not.

I don't really have a favourite song, but I'm partial to tracks off of Dookie. It reminds me of my childhood. *sniffle*

I'll always like Longview.

You have no idea how much the title of this thread irritates me. (Green Day RULE) Ahem.
Green Day are great, I've loved them for years. My favourite albums are probably either Insomniac or Warning.
At the moment, I cannot listen to 'American Idiot' - meaning both the song and the album. Overplayed, overrated. I'm not saying it's not a great album, but I'm just sick of it.
My favourite song by them? Hmm, 'Macy's Day Parade', and 'Hitchin' A Ride' are probably my favourites.
There's no Billie Joe fangirls round here are there? "OMG, Billie Joe is sooo totally HOTT!" They weren't saying that two/three years ago, were they? They were probably drooling over Justin Trousersnake or someone like that.
Sorry, I'm cranky today.
Green Day are fantastic live. ^_^

I enjoy their older material much more.
*nodnod* I like their older stuff.
But they're the godfathers of rock...My favorite band. Minority, Good Riddance, Hitchin' a ride, Longview...heck, I like em' all =O
I
Green Day xD I've been a fan my whole life =3i_love_starburst wrote:Green Day are fantastic live. ^_^
seen them before, going again
they're amazing live.
They're new album is sadly overrated...but after the 2 years they disappeared, I sorta lost it, then they came bakc and I listened to their songs and then i was just like "woah! I love these guys!!"

I wouldn't exactly go that far. It's not like they did anything revolutionary to the music industry. So they sold millions albums but that was about it.

I don't like this band at all, but it's a bit sad about fans saying they prefer all this old stuff to the new popular stuff.
It's not really the band who have changed, it's the times.
Kids these days will listen to anything. Back in my day it was all pop, then dance music towards the early 90's. And the late 90's came the nu-metal era, then "punk" and now whatever's lurking on the scene.

There's nothing wrong with a band changing. Obviously a lot of people do like the changes. A band must evolve and grow. And I do admit, Green Day grew up. However, their new music doesn't appeal to me as much, so be it. Stuff happens.
But they do, indeed, put on a great live show.

I didn't really like AI as much as their old music, but they have grown up...
And pop is worse the rock...it's punk-alternative rock, which has been around much longer then trashy pop.
Just saying >.>

I'm overwhelmed that everyone I know (sans PPT and internet) are the "biggest fans of greenday" yet they have never even listened to the earlier things.
I don't really like their new album. Not really at all, if that makes sense. I never really got into them as a band, pre or post American Idiot, but I had heard some songs from Dookie that would be worth recommendation.

Yeah. I hate it when I say to someone in my school I'm listening to Green Day (They ask people what they're listening to alot because they're all nosey buggers) And they go:
Them: OMG I LYK LUFF THEM!!!!111!!
Me: Really? What's you favorite song from Dookie?
Them: *blank looks*
That really gets me. I want to poke anyone's eyes untill they bleed when they do that.

I enjoy the band.
Their fans are another story.
I think their early stuff is amazing and anyone who doesn't listen to that, but insists that their new stuff is earth shattering is a poop head.
I think their recent stuff is very very good and anyone who automatically insists that they are past their prime because the studio has successfully targeted their music to the 11-14 tween demographic is a poop head.
Good, solid band with an amazing stage presense and can take performing to a new level.

how wrong you are. They were on lookout! records first.
Ever heard lookout records bands? Mr. T experience, Operation ivy even!
Very "punk" label

godfathers of mainstream pop-punk? Yes. Godfathers of rock? umm no.

You're saying the punk scene is new? Punk will be totally dead in about 2 years, as new-wave hardcore and metal are starting to takover, but punk goes back almost 40 years now.
Oh, and for the record, green day is pop-punk, and was never anything more than mediocre
