the newest Miyazaki to grace the silver screen, and this time written for America, not Japan. Based of a book by Dianna Wynne Jones, it is visually stunning. The story is really a fable on not being vain, and beautifully done, despite the fact that it was not an original idea from Miyazaki. In my home town, it's only playing at Landmark theatres, and I can only assume it that way all across the country. Has anyone else seen it?

(side note: Not many people have heard of Dianna Wynne Jones, but I personally have and think she's a wonderful writer. If you would like to read one of her books (besides Howl's Moving Castle) look for the Dalemark Quartet.)

I didn't know it wasn't written by Miyazaki... I loved Spirited Away, and i'm yet to see Princess Mononoke....
I will see this eventually, probably not in theaters... I'm more of a dvd person, so as soon as it comes out...

I'd like to hear what others thought about it though.

I have one of Dianne Wynne Jone's books. :) I had no idea it was written by her. I keep seeing the commercials, and I really want to see it, but I don't know if it is playing anywhere near me. Bah!

I didn't know it was by her either, until my sister took me to see it, and sure enough, it says 'based on a novel by Dianna Wynne Jones' in the opening credits. It was kinda shocking. BTW, which book by her do you have?

Actually, the movie is not written for America. It is based in Western Europe, instead of Japan, which might have confused you. The movie was produced in Japan and now it's been translated. :) I think Miyazaki's film are never really "meant" for a certain audience. They are move universal. :)

I was going to go see it, untill you mentioned Dianna Wynne Jones, Good lord, her books are boring.

I may still go see it, if I can find a theater it is playing at in my area.

It's only based on her book, though. Miyazaki rewrote it for the screenplay. :)

Okay, I just saw it last night, and it was most awesome. The story was so cute, but it wasn't too shoujo that I found it offensive. It got a little confusing in parts, but overall it was really good^^

I absolutely loved this movie! It was stunning, funny at parts, and just a wonderful, intriguing film. Go see it if you can.
