For some weird reason, my computer is slowing down. We have a total of 145 GB and we have used 13 GB already. I have deleted many of our unused games, deleted cookies, disk defragment and deleted any spyware. But for some reason, my computer is slower now. I have a program called LimeWire but it has never caused problems before.

Another fact is my computer repeatedly tells me windows is increasing my memory because it's too low. But we have 132 GB left, how is this little?

Can anyone help me?

It doesn't seem like the problem is with the hard drive, but with the RAM. You may have a lot of hard drive space, but not a lot of RAM. Usually 256MB is standard and works well with today's PCs. Limewire may also be contributing, but it mainly will affect startup times. Try to find out how much RAM you have. I may be able to help you more.

We've been having a problem with the computer clock. At least once a week, it gets off, usually only by 30 minutes or so, but sometimes by a few hours. We re-synchronize it and it's okay for a while. But the next day it's off again.

We've scanned for adware and stuff like that, but the computer's always clean except for a few tracking cookies.

Any ideas on what could be wrong?

Whenever I go to some sites that have links that pop up certain small windows the pop up link won't open correctly and I have to view the page with Mozilla for it to work. If this makes no sense let me link you to a page that has the type of pop up boxes I want to view and IE won't open.

ok on this site whenever I want to vote for SL, it won't open the box when I click the link to his song, doesn't do it whenver I'm on victoria secret's website and click the pictures for a bigger image...I can't right click and open it on a new window because that just displays this javascript:popUpEntry(488) on the URL and I get a "can't be displayed"

If it's ZoneAlarm, how do I change this setting? If it's a setting on IE, where do I change it?

Okay i instaleld windows XP australian edition a while ago, on my british PC, so the keyboards are a bit screwed. I haven't been able to work out how to change the setting of the keyboard so that the buttons are in the right places (such as " ~!@#%@$%^ things, i dont even have a pound sign any more!)

Where can I go to change this?

As already said, the memory in question is actually the RAM, or Random Access Memory, and not Memory in terms of your Hard drive.

Every program or "process" that is running on a PC uses up some of your RAM. This includes everything from browser windows, music players, anti-virus monitors, chat programs, task managers, and your operating system itself. Anything you run on your PC uses a portion of RAM to function. Because the amount of RAM you have is finite ( probably 512mb in your case ), once you have so many processes running that nearly all of your RAM is being used, your PC will not be able to run anymore processes.

To see which processes you have running at any particular time, and how much of your memory they are each using, perform a ctrl + alt + delete ( just one! ), and then click the processes tab.

Windows has a system in place called "Virtual Memory" to try and ease this load, but this should just sit in the bachground and do its job. Being told your PC needs to increase it means you lack the RAM necessary to perform all the actions you want.

Can you give us some more specs? Amount of RAM, Operating system and any newly installed programs or changes made to the machine should suffice. The probable solution is to use fewer programs at a time and/or install more memory, but we might be able to tell you why this has only happened now.



Sounds like the battery on your motherboard is nearly dead. This is used in storing settings such as time. Replacing it isnt quite as simple as inserting a new one, as some bios settings are often lost when this battery is removed, so ask somebody who knows what theyre doing to help

Ahem Lets see if we can sort this out.

These windows are created using javascript. As we all know, many security programs associate such scripts with the devil. Too many people have complained about pop-ups, so every man and his dog tries to build a pop-up blocker into their software these days. Nice idea, but it means too many people are in your situation.

Anyway, to disable pop-up blocking in ZoneAlarm, follow this:

ZoneAlarm > Privacy > Custom Button in the Ad Blocking section > uncheck the pop-up blocker box.

If that doesnt fix things,you might try disabling IE's own pop-up blocker. To do this :

Right click the IE icon > Properties > click the Privacy tab > uncheck the Block Most Pop-ups box at the bottom of the window.

There is a custom settings box there that you can play with if you wish, but first disabling the program entirely to see if this fixes the problem is probably a wise choice. If it works, you can tweak the settings afterwards to add a little more security.

If this doesnt help, post back with more specs Do you use any spyware scanners or toolbars that also block pop-ups?

Yeah, I agree with Jim. I had this problem on my old computer, but it actually used to go out about twenty years, so in March 2002 it was something like July 1986. Every time a reset it and turned off the computer, it went back to it while the computer was off. No good for dates, etc. I'd recommend asking a professional, as Jim said. No good doing it yourself. Alternatively, just cope with the time being out. I did that, and now I have a sparkly-poo computer, all wuffly and new. ^.^ Well, ish. It was my brother's, but now it is mine. Er, yeah.

Check your time zone. I just figured this out less than a minute ago.
My laptop was the same as your computer, always loosing time. I would set it, and in a day or so it would be 2 hours behind.
Then I realised I had the wrong time zone set in, and it was changing to that time zone. Just an idea, but it might be worth checking out?

Heres my problem.

I finally got rid of my 5 year old hard drive and bought a new one. Everything is great, yaddayaddayadda, but I cant shut it down.

I click on shut down, okay, and it shuts down, its normal, until the very very end. Where its just this black screen, normally, a computer would then turn off, but my computer just stays a black screen. I'll have to unplug it to turn it off. This has happened ever since I bought it, from Day 1. Is it a hardware problem or what?

Alright, here's the deal. Since I'm a Roadrunner customer we get CA's ez Armor Suite for free, and the subscription free for one year ($100). THe problem is when I tried to upgrade mine, it said the installation for the AV failed. So, I tried different things a few more times, and now it won't install the firewall either. So I've had to install ZoneAlarm Security Suite, but since it's only for 15 days I want this fixed.
