I've just heard from a trusted friend and well known neopian that the account testing_a_theory was created to test whether TNT really does freeze new accounts created on previously frozen computers.

On the lookup were screenies of mails from tnt. One of them said he'd been frozen for ad blocking, which they consider to be a cheat program. It also said he was free to create a new account, as long as he didn't ad block.

This is rather worrying, no? Also hypocritical, since when he created a new account he got frozen (the account was frozen really quickly).

I don't know what to say about this.

How could TNT even KNOW if I you are adblocking?

Before everybody goes into a panic, do you have the actual screenies?

Wow, that's really the reason for freezing? Blocking ads?!!!

Apparently, there is a way for them to find out if you're blocking ads.

But didn't Adam even say here that it was ok to use the adblocker that comes with Firefox? I mean, yes it's an add-on, but it is part of the browser. It's nothing illegal. We're not talking about an auto-refresher, game cheat, ab, etc. type of program.

As to getting iced again after previous accounts were iced on the same computer/ip - yes, I've heard that and seen that many times.

What about auto-refreshers that *are* brwoser add-ons? I have the TabBrowser Extention, which in addition to providing a lot more options in regards to tabs, lets me auto-refresh tabs

I take this with a pinch of salt, there are an awful lot of users who use different ways to block the ads and only one person has been frozen? Until I see more people frozen then I am inclined to think that this person mocked up an email.

If this is the same person they were talking about on the IDB forums... didn't they tell TNT they were using an adblocker in the email where they asked to be unfrozen?

I still think it's a stupid reason to ice an account. For that matter, I think autorefreshers are a stupid reason to ice an account. When you make so many Battledome challengers that require huge amounts of refreshing at one location, what on earth do you expect? But I don't think it necessarily implies that they have a way to know if you're using an ad blocker if you don't tell them.

Sure they were. Here's the true story.

Testing_a_theory created a fake screenie showing an "e-mail response" from Jennifer to him/her about their icing. In this, "Jennifer" said that ad-blockers are detected as autobuyers. This screenie convinced quite a few people, and yes, this was the same case as on IDB.

Yesterday, a person who visited IDB forums posted a board on the BD boards, warning people about using an ad-blocker.

Near the bottom of the first page, snarkie (yes, the snarkie) posted, saying

1) The screenie was fake
2) Jennifer denied writing it
3) Snarkie herself uses an ad-blocker at home

Two minutes later, testing_a_theory iced. For impersonating a staff member.

EDIT : My own theory is that some restocker wanted less competition, so tried to convince people to turn ad-blocking off, therefore making their browsers slower.

Mozilla Firefox has a feature called that you can install that blocks the top and bottom ads by blocking anything that certain web addresses send you. I think you can also do that in Internet Explorer.

It apparently blocks most sorts of ads like the top and bottom ones as well as pop-ups. It's good to know that i'm safe using an ad-blocker

Mozilla Firefox has a feature called that you can install that blocks the top and bottom ads by blocking anything that certain web addresses send you. I think you can also do that in Internet Explorer.

Adblock also works in Netscape, but you have to do something different in IE (there's a topic all about it somewhere here...look around).

Topic is right here-http://www.pinkpt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14085 I brought it up towards the front earlier as I have a bottom ad that won't stay blocked. :x

I am soooo glad I'm a PPT member. I just logged onto Neopets, checked the Neoboards and saw a post that someone had been frozen for using AdBlock while restocking. The supposed email from TNT support sounded a little off to me though. Anyway, I RAN over here to see what the scoop is about it. And I see that it was just another trickster. Thank goodness I can verify NeoUrban Myths with my friends at PPT!!

Looking to buy Snowbunny Stamp and Sticky Snowflake Stamp. If you're selling, please PM me!

That's freezable. I know someone who was frozen for using the autorefresher browser add-on on neopets.

It's a relief to know that was all a big lie - I didn't see the screenies myself because the account was iced too quickly, but I was really worried! Good to know there's no cause for concern.
