Ugh, I did all the Foxfire stuff, but I've decided that it's still easier just to browse the site in Spanish... Need to do something with those 5-1/2 years of lessons... ^_^;

Wait a minute... this isn't about the ads! Neopets is trying to make all of us bilingual! They should be commended for such an awesome and educational scheme!

Either that, or Mozilla is sponsoring them :P

Haha...that's kind of the "reassuring" part. :P

But now that the hosts thing is working fine, it's goodbye French for me. Back to being an English-speaking Canadian. :D

The sad reality is...we shouldn't have to jump through hoops to block the new ads. We shouldn't have to change our languages.

Those ads shouldn't be there.

Exactly! I wrote one of my long winded (yes, I DO talk too much) posts on one of the other topics about this.

We shouldn't have to change our browser, add on things, mess with css, change our country or language just to play on a site that promised in their own press package, interviews, etc. that there would be NO banner ads.

The sidebar ad and the sponsor games, etc. were fine. The top banner messes with my head (literally because of my disabilities - something that was never addressed - people with disabilities, which IMHO is a form of discrimination) and now this bottom square ad.

They slow our computers down (dial up is a nightmare, even people with high speed are complaining), they interfere with normal navigation/certain games, they add cookies and lots of other not so good things on your computer. Many of the ads are links to sham/scam/bad spyware sites. This does not sound very child-safe, family friendly to me.

Maybe we should, especially those with ss of some of these ads, write to COPPA and see what they think, given they've approved the site and given it a rating.

As to the privacy policy - yes they can change that at will and it is apparently up to us to go to that page and read to see if anything's changed. I haven't for awhile. Have they put the email back on that page? They removed it after the security debacle last spring. Guess they got tired of people emailing them about breaching their own privacy policy?

I know once I move everything from my gallery account back to my main (where it was all bought with hard-earned np) I will be closing my gallery. I have premium on my main account, but there's no way to have it on another account unless you pay for it again. I don't have that kind of money. And I just can't handle all the ads doing their best to mess with my computer anymore when I go to that account to do anything.

These new ads or the ones we got a few months ago are very small reasons to change browsers. People should be changing browsers for far more serious reasons: preventing identify theft, computer security, support of W3C standards and not settling for substandard software products. For all you kids who think switching to Firefox or another browser is such a pain, think about how your parents will feel when they have to pay a computer tech to clean up the malware (bad software) that IE lets in, or even worse, when they're on the phone with the credit bureau trying to figure how someone was able to get all their personal info. Simply put, IE = bad news.

As soon as Mozilla gains in popularity, you bet there will be lots of viruses/etc targeting it.

Firefox is there for backup, but I hardly ever use it. You can browse Neopets via IE and not see any ads.

Don't be afraid to see the truth, even if no one wants you to. Be yourself and not a fool. Don't ever be afraid to speak your mind and listen to criticism. Dissent is keeps our country progressive and willingness to challenge yourself is what keeps yourself ever evolving.

amen. my computer runs beautifully ever since i booted that terrible browser. 500 downloads of malware without my knowledge or permission and trojan viruses was it for me ;)

Why don't we all just buy Neopets merchindise so they can take down the ugly ads?

Or, better yet, They can poll people to see which things they should ditch. Thus, keeping a cleaner and more managable site.

Ah, yet another victim of Microsoft propaganda. IE is directly tied to your operating system (if you're running any version of Windows), which is why it's so very insecure. Mozilla and other browsers are just that...web browsers. If you're running Windows, try blocking inbound and outgoing traffic from "iexplore.exe" with a firewall and see how many things in your system stop working besides IE. It's an inferior closed-source product run on a truely insecure platform, produced by a company that's proven security isn't one of their stong suits. Waiting until the fiscal quarter ends to release security updates isn't very ethical - which is something MS does all the time.

On the other hand, Firefox is a quality open-source product (not unlike Linux/GNU) - which means if there is an exploit found, it will be remedied and distributed very quickly. No one's worried about stock prices dropping or bad press because those are not motivators for the open-source community.
